  • miguelpaulsI live in New Zealand, clocks were meant to go forward an hour at 0200 on 29/09. I went to bed at around 0130. I had set an alarm for 1130 which went off at 1130 old time . Thinking this was the actual time, I turned that alarm off and set another for 1200. At 1209 old time I received and replied to a WhatsApp message about an appointment at 1300. I then called the person to ask why they were asking about the appointment so soon, its not until 1. They then informed me that it was already 10 past 1. I looked at my phone clock and it was still showing 1210. After ending the call the phone clock still showed 1210, then I literally saw it jump to 1310.Wtf? It really screwed up my plans and if I had work earlier I would have been late. And yes, I do have set time automatically turned on.Version 12.4.1

Will My iPhone Clock Update Automatically For Daylight Savings Time

Your iPhone can serve a lot of different purposes, and has likely replaced a number of common household items. One item that it may have replaced is a watch, since the iPhone has its own clock, and is typically within reach. But as that time of year approaches where the clocks are going forward or backwards an hour, you might be wondering whether or not your iPhone clock will update automatically to adjust for the time change.

Your iPhone can update automatically to account for Daylight Savings Time, but it requires a specific setting to be enabled. This setting is enabled on most iPhones by default, but you might just want to check it to confirm. Our guide below will show you where to find the setting that controls your iPhones ability to automatically update the time.

How to Ensure Your iPhone Will Automatically Fall Back ...

Weve received quite a few questions about the iPhones clock and if it will update automatically for Daylight Savings Time, the answer is: Yes, the iPhone automatically changes time to be correct with your time zone. So does the iPad, iPod touch, and Mac OS X. You do not need to change the time manually, it will fall back on its own.

Most of the questions about daylight savings relate to past problems and bugs with iOS that caused improper clock adjustments for both the Spring and Fall time changes. The most recent bug occurred with the iPhone earlier in the year, when the clock went the wrong way or didnt change at all. This was after the year prior had a different issue, where the alarm clock went off an hour later than it was set, and that carried further several days until the clock was manually reset.

These issues were resolved with past iOS updates and will not impact iOS 5 users, and there were no reports of issues with time changing in the UK last week. If youre paranoid you can always set another alarm clock just to be safe, but its probably not necessary.Note: If your iPhone didnt switch to the proper time for DST, you may have have one of the following issues:

The first DST fiasco occurred when Daylight Savings Time ended in November 2010: When iOS switched back to Standard Time, iPhones turned off alarms for no real reason. In March 2011, the iPhone fell back an hour instead of springing forward, causing users to miss appointments and other events. If you’re worried, there are steps you can take to make sure your iPhone reverts back to Standard Time.
