In 2017, Apple decided to take this legacy of launching two similar yet distinctively different phones forward with the release of the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus.

Despite the release of newer models like the iPhone XR, XS, 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, many people are turning to iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus because of the fall in pricing that these models have seen after the release of the newer ones. Overall Winner: iPhone X

The iPhone X marked an important leap forward for Apple. It was the first Apple-made smartphone with an edge-to-edge OLED screen and a depth-sensing camera, and it was the first to do away with the iconic physical home button. It is the best of the three and if money is no object, its the iPhone you should buy.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus may not have the iPhone Xs vibrant screen or three-dimensional facial scanning, but they are a fair bit cheaper. They also still offer that speedy processor, wireless charging, and a longer-lasting battery. If youre used to the older design and fancy sticking with it, or your budget wont stretch, then the iPhone 8 or 8 Plus are unlikely to disappoint.

iPhone 12 Vs iPhone 8 Camera

The photos produced by the iPhone 12 are a big leap forward from the iPhone 8, and not just because the older phone ships with a single 12-megapixel camera. The iPhone 8 Plus doubles things up with a second 12MP lens and a 2x optical zoom.

Both the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini feature two lenses as well â a 12MP wide and 12MP ultrawide shooter. The apertures are bigger on the iPhone 12 cameras than they were with the iPhone 8, to let in more light.

But the camera story isn’t just about hardware. Apple’s photo processing powers have gotten a lot more sophisticated in the three years since the iPhone 8 came out. The latest iPhones support features like Night Mode on all their cameras and Deep Fusion for emphasizing more details and textures in photos. A new version of Apple’s Smart HDR feature helps the iPhone 12 adjust white balance, saturation and contrast on the fly, so shots will look good even in challenging lighting. And the new phones are capable of capturing HDR video with Dolby Vision.

Put it another way: The iPhone 8 Plus may have as many rear cameras as the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini, but the machine learning-powered software on the latest iPhones lets you do so much more.

iPhone 8 Plus Vs iPhone X: Front Cameras

The front-facing cameras on these two phones are so different, Apple gave them different names.

The iPhone 8 Plus has the traditional FaceTime camera, but it has been improved. With a f/2.2 aperture, it takes 7-megapixel stills and records 1080p video. Like the rear cameras, it captures wide-gamut color when taking photos and Live Photos. Theres a Retina screen flash to help you get better lighting for your selfies.

The iPhone X has all of those same features, but its TrueDepth camera goes a lot further. Since you log in to your iPhone X with the new Face ID feature, the TrueDepth camera has special sensors that assist in this secure facial recognition. They include an infrared camera to see you in the dark, a proximity sensor, a flood illuminator, and a dot projector that helps make a 3D map of your face to make sure youre not a photo.

What iPhone Is The Biggest

The biggest iPhone you can buy right now is the iPhone 12 Pro Max it has a 6.7in OLED display, the biggest ever fitted to an iPhone, and it measures in at 160.8 x 78.1 x 7.4 mm, making it the largest iPhone Apple has produced since the launch of the iPhone X.

However, the biggest iPhone overall, by sheer size, is the iPhone 8 Plus. Because it has a home button and large bezels at the top and bottom, it is both wider and taller than the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Apples biggest iPhone is always its Plus model , Max, or Pro Max models on its more modern iPhone releases. For instance, the biggest iPhone in 2019 was the iPhone 11 Pro Max. In 2018, the biggest iPhone was the iPhone XS Max. And in 2020, the biggest iPhone will be the iPhone 12 Pro Max which has a 6.7in OLED display.

This will remain the general rule of thumb going forwards until Apple changes how it brands its iPhone. Interestingly, we could see a return on the plus branding in 2021 with the release of the iPhone SE Plus which will replace the now-discontinued iPhone 8 Plus.

iPhone X Plus Said To Be iPhone 8 Plus Size Ios 12 To Bring Horizontal Face Id Support More

A new report today from Macotakara sheds more light on the iPhone models to be introduced later this year. The blog says the 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus is roughly the same size as the current iPhone 8 Plus, and offers a few more tidbits of information

The report cites a reliable supplier information source and claims that the rumored 6.5-inch OLED iPhone X model coming this later this is roughly the same size as the iPhone 8 Plus, which features a 5.5-inch display. The size comparison can be seen below.

However, the 6.5-inch 2018 iPhone is expected to be slightly thicker due to the mounting form of the rear camera. Macotakara says the device will be around 0.2mm thicker, which would put it at 7.7mm in thickness.

The similarity in size is due in large part to the drastically smaller bezels on the 6.5-inch iPhone. As weve seen with the current iPhone X, the edge-to-edge display makes a huge difference in overall footprint.

As for the rumored 6.1-inch 2018 iPhone, todays report reiterates that it will feature an LCD display, though it also says the display will be slightly smaller at 6-inches instead of 6.1-inches. The report says the LCD model will feature Face ID support, as well.

Meanwhile, the refresh of the existing iPhone X is rumored to bring a larger camera sensor and larger lens. What exactly this means for image quality is unclear at this point, however.

iPhone X Vs iPhone 8 Plus Camera And Battery

The iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus both have 12MP dual-lens cameras on the back, allowing them to optically zoom and use depth of field effects in photography, but there are some subtle differences between them.

For one thing, while both of the iPhone Xs lenses have optical image stabilization only one of the iPhone 8 Pluss does, so when using the telephoto lens on the iPhone 8 Plus your image wont be stabilized.

Also, while both phones have an f/1.8 aperture wide-angle lens, the aperture of their telephoto lenses differs. The iPhone X has an f/2.4 aperture one, while the iPhone 8 Plus has an f/2.8 aperture one meaning the opening on the 8 Plus is smaller, so less light can get in.

In our review, we noted how the 8 Plus is much noisier in low light using the zoom, so this should be significantly improved on the iPhone X.

As for the front-facing camera, the iPhone X has the edge there too, at least on paper, as while both phones have a 7MP f/2.2 snapper, the iPhone X can tap into its Face ID tech to allow for depth adjustments in photos, and for Animoji, which are emoji that mirror your expressions and even your mouth movements when you talk.

The iPhone X also probably has a bigger battery than the iPhone 8 Plus. While the Xs battery size hasnt been officially confirmed yet, its reportedly 2,716mAh, while the iPhone 8 Plus has a 2,691mAh battery.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 8 Plus: Camera

There are three key differences when it comes to camera in these phones: lens choice component quality and software.

Let’s start with lens choice. Though both these phones have dual cameras, the two systems are different. The iPhone 8 Plus includes a wide-angle camera and a 2x telephoto camera the iPhone 11 includes a wide-angle camera and a 0.5x ultra-wide camera.

The iPhone 8 Plus’ system is built around taking Portrait mode shots the telephoto lens gives a look much more like what someone with a dedicated camera would take, and the two lenses work in unison to map the scene in 3D, so that a convincing fake depth-of-field effect can be applied around the subject.

The iPhone 11’s system is designed around Night mode, which enables takings usable, detailed photos even when there’s nowhere near enough light compared to what cameras can normally handle. The iPhone 11 does also take Portrait mode shots, but the different lens length makes them a bit less pro-style, and there’s no 3D map for the blur effect, so it’s not quite as convincingly applied. It also only work on people and pets, while on the 8 Plus it works on anything.

The iPhone 11’s ultra-wide lens, however, offers a totally different way to take certain shots, especially around landscapes and architecture, or to get creative with perspective on closer subjects. The 8 Plus’ 2x zoom lens, of course, offers the ability to get in a little closer without losing resolution.

iPhone 12 Vs iPhone 8 Performance

iPhone 12 Vs iPhone 8 Plus! (Comparison) (Review)

Here’s where iPhone 8 upgraders will likely see the biggest leap. Both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus used the best Apple silicon of their day â an A11 Bionic chip. That processor was more than able to hold its own against the best chipset for Android phones at the time, the Snapdragon 835.

But Apple hasn’t stood still in the last three years, introducing subsequently more powerful processors with each iPhone release. We’re up to the A14 Bionic with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini, and to hear Apple tell it, that processor will outperform last year’s silicon by some margin, let alone chips that came out in 2017.

We ran Geekbench 5 on the iPhone 12, and got single- and multicore scores of 1,593 and 3,859, respectively. We don’t have an iPhone 8 handy on which to run Geekbench 5, but the iPhone 12 outscored the iPhone 11 Pro Max , and since that’s a relatively recently A13 Bionic chip, we assume the A11-powered iPhone 8 would eat the iPhone 12’s dust.

Apple hasn’t stepped up one aspect of its smartphones. Storage is still relatively minimal, with base models of the iPhone 12 and 12 mini continuing to offer the same 64GB of capacity featured on the iPhone 8. At least you’ve got more storage options now, with 128GB and 256GB models of the latest iPhones.

One other aspect separates the iPhone 12 models from the iPhone 8 â the new iPhone can connect to 5G networks. Stick with an iPhone 8, and you’re stuck on LTE.
