Video functionality is broadly similar across both devices: both have the ability to record 4K at up to 60fps, and both have Dolby Vision HDR. However, there is one key difference seen in the addition of Cinematic Mode. You can use this to create shallow depth of field effects for moving subjects, something which was previously only available for stills shooting with the iPhone 12 Pro.

It works pretty well for the iPhone 13 Pro, particularly if the subject such as a person or a pet has a reasonably well-defined outline. That said, you cant record this in 4K, so its perhaps more something you might consider a fun effect rather than anything more seriously. It also seems reasonably likely that this could come to the iPhone 12 Pro via a firmware upgrade at some point.

The iPhone 13 Pro also offers ProRes 4K recording, as long as your device has at least 256GB of storage. That makes sense, because ProRes video will take up a lot of space on your phone. So if youre seriously into your vlogging, make sure you plump for a higher capacity device. ProRes at 1080p, meanwhile, is available for 128GB models.

While the iPhone 12 Pro marked somewhat of a design departure from its predecessor, the iPhone 13 Pro is almost identical to its forebear. Both the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro have 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR screens, with both offering HDR displays at the same resolution.

iPhone 12 Pro Vs iPhone 12 Pro Max: Displays

The OLED displays on the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max are simply among the best you’ll find on any phone. These panels are bright, colorful and accurate, though the sheer size of the Pro Max may tempt you if you enjoy watching videos on the go. The Pro Max’s display is also ideal for reviewing documents.

In our lab tests, the screens on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max were evenly matched in terms of color reproduction. The iPhone 12 Pro registered 115.6% of the sRGB color gamut and 81.9% of the more demanding DCI-P color space. By comparison, the iPhone 12 Pro Max hit 119.7% and 84.8%, respectively.

The iPhone 12 Pro proved a bit brighter, as its display averaged 742 nits based on our testing, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max reached 654 nits. Both screens are plenty bright enough to see in direct sunlight.

Both the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max have screens that refresh at 60Hz. Apple didn’t add faster refresh rates until the iPhone 13 Pro models debuted.

iPhone 13 Pro Vs iPhone 12 Pro: Portrait Mode

Both the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro have the same portrait mode that weve seen on the last few generations of iPhone. However, as the telephoto lens for the newer model is a 3x zoom, rather than 2x, there is a clearly marked difference between the two when shooting with the 2x/3x option enabled.

If you shoot at the 1x option to include more of the background/context of whatever it is youre photographing Photo Styles bearing in mind that Portrait mode is not just for Portraits but for any subject which you want to isolate from the background the differences are a lot more subtle.

Performance And Battery Life

The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max identical is in regard to processor performance. Both devices feature Apples latest A14 Bionic process, which Apple touts is the fastest chip in a smartphone. The A14 Bionic features two high-performance cores and four efficiency cores.

Both the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max also feature the latest Neural Engine for improved machine learning features and capabilities. Apple says the new 16-core Neural Engine offers an 80% increase in performance compared to the prior generation. You also get 6GB of RAM in both devices, which is up from the 4GB of RAM that Apple used in the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

There is also support fast-charging for getting an up to 50% charge in 30 minutes with a 20W power adapter. You can also use Qi wireless charging at 7.5W of power and MagSafe wireless charging at 15W of power.

A major benefit of the larger iPhone 12 Pro Max design is that theres simply more space inside for a larger battery. So, how much power can you expect from a charge? Heres what Apple claims:

iPhone 12 Pro battery life

  • Video playback: Up to 17 hours
  • Video playback : Up to 11 hours
  • Audio playback: Up to 65 hours

iPhone 12 Pro Max battery life

  • Video playback: Up to 20 hours
  • Video playback : Up to 12 hours
  • Audio playback: Up to 80 hours

Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max Review: Design

iPhone 12 is cheaper than you think estimated pricing at RM2348 ...

Its the obvious successor to last years iPhone 11 Pro Max and it is fractionally taller and wider than its predecessor, and a touch thinner. But, thanks to the new 2020 iPhone design with cliff-edge sides replacing the cozy curved shape of the 11 Pro Max, it doesnt feel any bigger in the hand.

If you were worried that the flat edges may be uncomfortable, theyre not, in my hand at least . My belief is that if you could handle last years Max, then this years will present no problems.

The other distinguishing features of the iPhone 12 range: all-screen front, cut-out section for the TrueDepth camera, rear camera panel with raised lenses and so on, all are found here, too.

The camera design is different. There are three cameras, wide, ultra-wide and telephoto as on the smaller iPhone 12, plus a flash and LiDAR scanner to help speed up autofocus, help with augmented reality features and boost the capabilities of apps like Magnifier.

But the Max has a wide camera with a bigger sensor than the iPhone 12 Pro, and the telephoto has a bigger focal length, offering a 2.5x optical zoom equivalent compared to the wide. The iPhone 12 Pro has a 2x zoom equivalent.

Apple had to put a bigger lens on the wide and has opted, for aesthetic purposes, to enlarge the other lenses to match. They are noticeably bigger than on the 12 Pro.

But its the size of the phone that really jumps out at you. And a lot of that is down to the display, which well get to in a moment.

iPhone 12 Pro Vs iPhone 13 Pro: Which Apple Smartphone Should You Buy

Our Apple iPhone 13 Pro vs iPhone 12 Pro guide explains the main differences between the phones, to help you make the right choice

We’re comparing the iPhone 13 Pro vs iPhone 12 Pro, to help you decide which one to buy. The specs on the two models aren’t hugely different, so is the newer model worth the extra cost? We’ve been putting both phones through their paces, and in this article, we’ll explain how each measures up in practice.

Like the best cameras , the best iPhone for photography is the one you’ve got in your hand, but what iPhone should that be? Of course, you could hold out for the iPhone 14 Pro, but that hasn’t been released just yet. And given all the problems with the global supply chain right now, there’s a good chance that even if they Apple is aiming for that date, they won’t be able to deliver straightaway.

If you’re planning to buy a new iPhone, or upgrade your existing model, it’s the existing iPhone generations you’ll want to focus on. The iPhone 13 Pro is the latest, but it only represents a series of fairly small or incremental changes on the iPhone 12 Pro . On paper, it’s certainly the one with the better camera, but how different is it in use, really? Read on to find out…

iPhone 12 Pro Vs iPhone 12 Pro Max: Bottom Line

Even with the iPhone 13 Pro models now available, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max remain formidable flagship phones, even if they’re great for different types of users. Both phones run iOS 15, and they remain very evenly matched on display quality, performance and photography

However, the regular iPhone 12 Pro remains the choice for those who want a compact device. I personally prefer the iPhone 12 Pro Max for its larger screen and nearly 2 extra hours of battery life. And while the photography differences are subtle, the Pro Max’s camera offered better results in Night Mode.

iPhone 12 Pro Vs iPhone 12 Pro Max: Design

How Big Is The iPhone 12 Pro Max? (ITS HUGE!)

If you want an iPhone that’s easier to use with one hand, the obvious choice is the iPhone 12 Pro. It features a 6.1-inch display in a fairly compact design that measures 5.78 x 2.82 x 0.29 inches and weighs 6.6 ounces.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 12 Pro Max is a beast of a handset. It packs a 6.7-inch screen into a taller, wider and heavier chassis that comes in at 6.33 x 3.07 x 0.29 inches and 8.03 ounces. This is best for those who want an immersive screen and don’t mind using two hands.

Both the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro feature sleek flat edges and narrower borders, as well as a Ceramic Shield Display that’s designed to offer four times better drop performance than the iPhone 11 series. And the water resistance is great for both models, too, with an IP68 rating that allows them to be submerged in up to 6 meters of water for 30 minutes.

I also like the matte glass back on both phones and the polished stainless steel band that runs along the outside of the handsets .

The iPhone 12 Lineup Has A Phone Size For Just About Everyone

Apple has finally unveiled its lineup of new iPhones for 2020. And with flashy specs and features like better battery life, next-level cameras, new colors, and more, its easy to lose sight of a super basic, but extremely important detail: the size of the phones. Will you end up stretching your thumbs even further while using the new handsets? Heres a breakdown of what your hands can expect from the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models.

Apple formally introduced four distinct new iPhone models on Tuesday during an all-digital event at its Cupertino, California HQs Steve Jobs Theater: iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The iPhone 12 mini, of course, sports the smallest form factory, while iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro share the medium size compared to the ultra-large iPhone 12 Pro Max, which is actually even bigger than last years supersized iPhone 11 Pro Max. All four of the phones sport the notch, which houses components for the front facing camera and Face ID facial scanner, at the top of the screen. From what it looks like, the iPhone 12 lineup includes a size for just about everyone.

All four of the new models launch over the next few weeks, well into November. Here’s what we know about the new iPhones’ screen sizes and dimensions:

iPhone 12 Dimensions Vs iPhone Se

Apples iPhone 12 Mini has a 5.4in display, making it closer in size to the original iPhone SE than the outgoing iPhone 11. It is even smaller than the current iPhone SE 2020.

How? Doesnt the original iPhone SE 2020 have a 4.7in display? Yes, it does but it also has a home button. Doing away with the home button frees up about half an inch in space at the bottom of the phone.

This is why the iPhone 11, iPhone XS, iPhone X, and iPhone XR are all smaller than the iPhone 8 Plus with respect to overall dimensions, despite having significantly larger displays.

So the overall dimensions of the iPhone 12 Mini, with its 5.4in OLED display, are 131.5 x 64.2 x 7.4 mm, making it closer in size to the iPhone SE, iPhone 5, and iPhone 5s than the iPhone 11 or iPhone XR.

Is iPhone 12 Max Pro Too Big

So no, its not too big, especially for those people used to getting the large size phones at this point. For some people probably, but in general, no. The iPhone 12 Pro Max has 6.7 in screen, but a height of 6.33in and a width of 3.07in. Thats not much much larger than the 11 Pro Maxs 6.22 in x 3.06in size.

iPhone 12 Vs iPhone 12 Pro: Performance

Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max 128GB

Judging by the specs, its a similar story for the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro when it comes to performance. Both are home to Apples latest A14 Bionic chip, however, the tech giant rarely discloses RAM, so there may be a slight speed improvement in the Pro.

This ones too close to call, so were calling it a tie.

iPhone 12 Pro Vs iPhone 13 Pro: Price

The iPhone 12 Pro has already gone from Apples official website, but you can still get it from other third-party retailers such as Amazon. You may also be offered it as part of a contract from the network providers. But do note that the price difference may be a lot less than you expect, judging from deals we’ve been seeing. So if youre buying the phone outright and dont already have an iPhone 12 Pro, you may as well pay just a little bit more and get the 13 Pro.

Prices are likely to vary fairly widely between different network providers however, so its harder to make a bolder statement about those variables. Its always worth checking to see the saving when going for the older model, and if its quite significant, definitely consider it carefully.

Big is beautiful, they say. So, is the new iPhone 12 Pro Max, the biggest phone Apple has ever built, a giant beauty or an over-sized monster?

The short answer is, it depends on your point of view. There are four iPhones this year, ranging in ascending order of size from the iPhone 12 mini , iPhone 12 , iPhone 12 Pro and the biggest of the bunch, the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Whats perfect for your hand may not suit mine.

iPhone 12 Pro Vs iPhone 12 Pro Max: Display

Other than the camera technology, which we will touch on in more detail later, the display size is the biggest differentiator between the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Here are the details you need to know.

The iPhone 12 Pro features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with a resolution of 2532-by-1170 pixels, equating to 460 pixels-per-inch. On the other hand, the iPhone 12 Pro Max features a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display with a resolution of 2778-by-1284 pixels, equating to a slightly lower 458 pixels-per-inch.

The difference in pixel density between the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max is so minor that users will almost certainly not be able to actually notice it. The other display features are the same between the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max:

  • Super Retina XDR display
  • 800 nits max brightness
  • 1200 nits max brightness

The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max displays are both protected by Ceramic Shield technology, which Apple says offers 4x better drop performance than previous iPhones.
