  • Take a screenshot of this page
  • Visit;iempty.tooliphone.net in Safari on your iPhone
  • Tap Customize, then tap CUSTOM Mode

    Check Your Total Usage

First, assess how much space you have. Go to;Settings > General > Storage. At the top, you’ll see a color-coded bar chart that outlines how much space certain categories of apps are taking up on your device.

You don’t need to understand these numbers deeply. To update iOS, you’ll want to have up to 6GB of free space. If you simply want to have enough free space so you can take new photos and install new apps without worrying about hitting an obstacle, give yourself at least 2GB of free space.

Note that when you add your available space and the used space, they won’t add up to the total size of your phone’s storage. That’s because it doesn’t factor in the space being used by the operating system.

I use Amazon Prime Video a lot. Similarly, you may have apps like Netflix, Hotstar, ZEE5, YouTube that you use for watching videos. Most of these apps also support offline downloads, which consume a lot of space.

Some apps automatically delete the download after 48 hours once you start watching it. On most apps, downloads usually remain for a long time.

Over time, some apps can become bloated. This happens because they store data locally or cache things for faster performance. A huge example of this is the Facebook app. Ive seen this app alone take up gigs and gigs of storage space on some peoples iPhones and iPads. Make a regular practice of checking your storage usage and see what apps are the biggest offenders. Uninstalling and reinstalling those apps will usually get rid of all the cached data, in turn freeing up storage space.

Theres an easy way to check what apps are taking up the most storage on your iPhone or iPad. Just follow these steps:

  • Tap on the Settings app.
  • Select General.
  • Select Storage & iCloud Usage.
  • Under the Storage section, tap on Manage Storage dont confuse this section with the iCloud section.
  • Youll see an overview of how much storage each app is taking up. Tapping into any one of them will get you a delete option, or you can delete them off your Home screen like youd normally delete apps.
  • After you delete the storage hungry apps in question, you can re-install them via the App Store like you normally would.
