How To Customize Photos Widget On iPhone

Have you been using the Photos widget on your iPhones home screen to reminisce about your memories? If so, you may want further control over what is shown on the widget, and perhaps see just your favorite photos rather than everything in your Photos library. Fortunately, theres a workaround for that using a third party widget.

The ability to add widgets to the iPhone home screen is one of the biggest features that iOS 14 and newer has to offer, at least visually, as it allows users to customize their home screens considerably. However, the stock Photos widget is somewhat limited in terms of functionality, as it randomly rotates through all the photos stored in the library. Users currently have no control over what photos are shown by the widget or how often it rotates, aside from removing a photo from memories or the featured list. Thankfully, a third-party app has solved this problem by allowing users to select the exact photos that show up in the widget.

Lets get to it and check out how you can customize the appearance of a photos widget on your iPhone Home Screen.

how to customize your iphone with IOS 14! widgets and custom app icons

There’s a special widget you can add to your Home Screen called the Smart Stack. It’s different from other widgets because it houses multiple apps instead of just one, and you can then swipe between the apps within the widget. For example, you can place the Smart Stack on the Home Screen and then swipe between various apps like Calendar, Fitness and Mail, without leaving the Smart Stack widget. It essentially allows you to do more with one widget, in case you don’t want to overload your Home Screen with a number of widgets. Apple claims that the Smart Stack widget will also be intelligent enough to learn which apps you use at different times of the day, and display them at that exact time.

  • Unlock your iPhone and open to the Home Screen.
  • Touch and hold an app, widget or an empty area until the apps start to jiggle.
  • Select the Add button in the upper-left corner.
  • Scroll down and select Smart Stack.
  • Select Add Widget.
