Use A Shortcut To Create Gifs From Videos Or Burst Photos
If you hold down the shutter button on your iPhones camera app, youll take a very rapid succession of still images at full resolution. Its not quite a smooth as a Live Photo, but the images are much higher quality and you can keep shooting for several seconds.
Theres no built-in way to turn a burst shot into a GIF, but you can easily do it with the Shortcuts app.

The video picker will appear, where you can browse the Photos app for a video to convert into a GIF. Make sure you choose one that’s relatively short, or else the processing time could be very long. Ideally, you want a video that’s just a few seconds long because GIFs tend to be fairly short. The video’s quality is also directly correlated to the processing time, but it shouldn’t take up too much time.
Once you choose the video, you’ll be taken back to your shortcuts. Wait for a few seconds while the video is converted. You can tell it’s converting if the “Video to GIF” shortcut is grayed out. Don’t leave Shortcuts, or else you risk the conversion process being interrupted.

Step 2: Click Create + in the upper right corner of your screen.

How To Make A Gif On iPhone
A GIF is a photo that is usually animated for a few seconds and moves on a repeated loop.
You can make them on your iPhone Photos app or on an app called GIPHY.
For a GIF that will work on Apple devices open “Photos” and select a “Live Photo” you want to turn into a GIF.

Like with most things on the iPhone, theres an app for that. In this case, its GIPHY, one of the best GIF apps on iOS. Download it and lets get started.
Open GIPHY and search for a GIF you like. There are a few things to bear in mind when youre looking:
- Your iPhone wallpaper is vertical. Unless you want a very small or very cropped GIF, you should look for something thats also vertical.
- Live Wallpapers are stationary most of the time. You should pick something where the still frame looks good.
- GIFs generally have low image quality. Its worth spending a bit of time to find something thats high quality. It will look much better.
After a bit of searching, I found this awesome Flanders GIF.
Once youve found your GIF, open it and tap the three little dots in the bottom right corner.;Next, select Convert to Live Photo.
Youll have two options: Save as Live Photo and Save as Live Photo .
Now, its time to set your wallpaper. Go to Settings > Wallpaper > Choose New Wallpaper.

iPhone Live Photos Aren’t Gifs But Shortcuts Can Make One
The iPhone has native ways to record a GIF, but they’re wonky. Also don’t be fooled by Apple’s Live Photos Looped animation option in the Photos app: This creates a video file, not an actual GIF.
But thanks to Apple’s Shortcuts app there are a bunch of ways to create GIFs. To start, download and open Shortcuts. On the bottom right, tap the Gallery Button. The gallery has thousands of prebuilt shortcuts you can install to do different things on your phone. You can search fpr the word GIF or just scroll down to the GIF shortcut section.
The Shortcuts app on the iPhone has five different ways to make a GIF.
The specific shortcut you’re looking for is Video To GIF. It has a blue rectangle icon. Simply tap to install it. You can access this Shortcut via the Share menu or in the Shortcuts app under the Library tab.
To make a GIF, tap on Video To Gif and choose a video . You can then trim the video, though sadly there’s no ability to add stickers or text. When you’re ready, hit Save.
Now the GIF will be on your screen, but it’s not actually saved. Hit the Share button on the top right of the screen to save your GIF to Photos, or send it straight away to a friend.
