How To Mute Notifications On Your iPhone’s Notification Center
Since iOS 12 debuted in 2018, the easiest way to silence push alerts that put an emphasis on “pushy” is to head to the Notification Center on your iPhone. From the lock screen, simply swipe up to reach the Notification Center. If your phone’s unlocked, then swipe down from the upper center of your screen.
Notification Center presents a list of all the notifications you’ve gotten recently, with notifications grouped by app and stacked on top of each other. Taping on that stack causes all the notifications you’ve gotten from that app to fan out, where you can deal with them on an individual basis.
To get rid of all of those notifications at once, tap the X button next to the Notification Center header. That will clear the notifications, but it won’t necessarily mute them.
Instead, to mute notifications on your iPhone from the Notification Center, swipe left on a notification from the app you want to mute. You’ll see three options Manage, View and Clear All. Tap Manage to assert some control over how often the app notifies you.
You can opt to have notifications delivered quietly, meaning they won’t pop up on your lock screen and there will be no sound or banner alerting you to the notification’s arrival. You also have the option turn off that app’s notifications entirely.
Why Its Important To Hide Notifications On Your iPhone
It may not seem like a big deal but turning off your phone notifications can make you both safer and more productive. Heres why:
- You can avoid distractions. With your phone constantly buzzing with notifications, its unsurprising if you find it difficult to avoid taking a peek every once in a while. Aside from that, your boss and colleagues may not appreciate it if they keep hearing your phone go off.
- You can protect your PIN. If youre signing into an online account with two-factor authentication, youll be getting your PIN via your phone. Sometimes, when you use your credit card, they also send you a one-time PIN to complete transactions. Those PINs become exposed to hackers since they appear as notifications on your phone.
- You can hide private information. Were not just talking about sensitive photos or correspondence. You have to consider company emails or texts meant for your eyes only.
- You can mind your own business. Everyone has the right to digital privacy. Messages coming into your phone should be read by you and you only. And what if youre planning a surprise party for a friend and a notification about it pops up on your phone? If anyone else sees it, then you would have ruined a good surprise.

Getting Started With Notification Summary In Ios 15
Once you’ve downloaded iOS 15, the quickest way to get Notification Summary turned on and set up is to open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad and select Notifications. Next, tap on the option labeled Scheduled Summary at the top of the screen.
You should see a splash screen like the one in the screenshot below, detailing what Notification Summary is and walking you through the setup process. You’ll be presented with a list of apps, with the noisiest at the top. Select as many apps as you want to add to your summary from the list then tap the Add X Apps button when you’re done. Don’t feel like you have to finalize your list right now — you can always go back and add or remove apps from the list at any time.
Next, you’ll be asked when you’d like to see your summary. The default setting is one summary at 8 a.m. and another at 6 p.m. You can edit the times, as well as add or remove times from the list. When you’re done, tap Turn on Notification Summary.
Now all you have to do is wait for your specified time to come and you’ll see a summary card showing you all of the alerts it’s been holding, organized by the apps and alerts you interact with the most at the top and those apps you don’t interact with all that often at the bottom.
Initial setup of Notification Summary takes just a few taps.

How To Schedule Notifications For A Specific Time On iPhone
Though notifications help us to know immediately whenever a new mail or message is received, it can be very annoying sometimes especially if you are in an important meeting or driving a car. To reduce distractions, Apple has added a new feature called Focus mode to control the notifications. In addition to Focus mode, iOS 15 has another interesting feature named Notifications Scheduled Summary.
In this guide, we will walk you through the steps to set up a Scheduled Summary for notifications and get notifications only at a specific time of the day.
Set A Focus And Schedule A Summary Of Your Notifications
Focus is a feature that helps you concentrate on a task by minimizing distractions. When you need to focus, or step away from your iPhone, Focus can temporarily silence all notificationsor allow only specific notifications .
When you turn on a Focus, Messages lets apps and people know youre busy. If something is urgent, people can choose to notify you anyway.
You can also schedule a summary of your notifications to arrive each day at a specific time. This helps you to reduce interruptions throughout the day, and then quickly catch up at a time more convenient for you.

Turn Off Message Previews Inside Apps
With some apps, you can keep notifications enabled but disable previews. For example, be notified when you get a text or mail but turn off the message part. Anyone looking at your phone sees only that you got a message, but they won’t know what it says.
This isn’t a function of every iPhone app, but some apps include it as an option. What makes this different from the Notification preview settings is that the app controls the alerts, not the phone settings.
For example, as shown below, the Signal app includes an option to show only the name of the person texting you, or you can show no name or message but include an alert that someone messaged you.
Change App Notifications From The iPhone Settings Menu
Launch the Settings app and select Notifications. Next, choose the affected app and make sure Allow Notifications is toggled on.
In addition, make sure Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners are enabled per your preferences. You should also enable Sounds and Badges for the app if you want those to fire for new notifications.

How Do Notifications Work On iPhone
Of course, notifications are not all bad news. In fact, they can be really useful to help you keep your life on track. If youre waiting on news about an important family or business matter, turning them on can be handy.
What we have to learn is to filter the messages appearing on our phones. Are most of them important? Or can you live without some? The first step is to check how many notifications youre usually getting, and who have been sending them.
Two Types Of Notifications Based On How Long They Appear For

Aside from where you want them to appear, you can also choose how long you want your notification to appear for:
- Temporary – These are visible for a few moments, then disappear on their own.
- Persistent – They appear until you manually turn them off.
To change your notifications into Temporary or Persistent, just go to Settings > Notifications. Then choose any app. Once inside, just tick on Temporary or Persistent, depending on your preference.
