Quick Start occupies both devices, so make sure that you choose a time when you won’t need to use your current device for several minutes.
What Is Restore Mode
If your old Verizon phone is a smartphone, you can follow this method. Sign in your Verizon account to have access to the Back Assistant. Choose contacts. In the pull-down list, select Save as Type, and choose to save the contacts as a CSV file.
Then, sign into your Google account, upload the CSV file. And then, open iTunes and connect your iPhone to the computer via USB cable. Click your iPhone under Devices to show the dialog on the right. Click Info on the top line. Tick Sync Contacts with and choose Google Contacts. Click Apply. Wait seconds. Then, the Verizon contacts will be on your iPhone.
How Do I Switch My Old Number From Another Carrier
This is called porting your number. Verizon doesnt charge any fee when you do this. But you may have to pay an Early Termination Fee from your previous carrier and other charges. Likewise, if youre paying your device off by installments, youll have to complete the payments before you can port your number.
If you port a wireless number, it will typically process in 4-24 business hours. Landlines take a little bit longer, usually between 2-10 business days.
Most phone numbers can be ported, though there may be limits based on your service area, the device, and line ownership. You can check online to see if your number is eligible.
Both devices purchased online or instore can be ported youll just need to make sure:
- The device is unlocked from your previous service provider. Verizon cannot unlock another carriers device .
- It has a Verizon SIM or eSIM
- Make sure your previous service is still active. Once successfully ported, your old account will automatically disconnect.
- You provide this information. Be sure there are no errors when providing this as it can delay the transfer process:

Waiting For The Process To Complete
If your number is being ported from another wireless carrier, the acknowledgement and approval of the port request by the losing carrier can usually be instantaneous.
That is because the FCC has allowed automated porting systems between carriers.
Hence, a wireless-to-wireless port will normally take less than 24 hours to complete, including over the weekends. However, it might take only 5-10 minutes.
If your number is being ported from a landline or VOIP carrier this will normally take about 3-4 business days .
This is because landline/VOIP carrier port-out departments do not work weekends, and their porting systems are not automated to the same degree that wireless carrier porting departments are.
A Verizon Wireless representative may incorrectly estimate that the port will take 24 hours or less if they are not familiar with landline/VOIP ports.
Conversely, a representative may tell you that the port may take 5 days, 10 days or even 15 days. This may be incorrect as well. The representatives may simply want to overestimate the port times so that they do not falsely set your expectations to the short side.
What About New Devices
Like other carriers, Verizon has a Bring Your Own Device policy. If your phone is unlocked, it should be compatible with Verizons network.
Verizon does use a different network than T-Mobile and AT& T, so older devices from these networks may not work with Verizon. If youre having any issue, be sure to contact Verizon technical support.

Opening Up A New Line In An Account Or In A New Account
You must have a Verizon Wireless enabled handset in order to perform the port. An unlocked SIM card based smart phone will not be sufficient.
If you are calling Verizon Wireless, and you have a second handset, it will be more convenient to call from the second handset since you cant program a phone at the same time you are talking on it. They will sometimes offer to help you to program the target handset at the end of the call. But, if not, you can easily do this by yourself after the call. Or go into the store to submit the port request and execute these steps while there.

Put The Old Sim Card In The New iPhone
Next, youll put the SIM card from the older iPhone into the new one. You should take note of which side was the bottom of the SIM card and which one was the top when you extract it. One side looks different from the other, so its not likely that you will confuse them. However, youll notice that there is also a notched corner of the SIM card. If you align that notch with the tray of the new iPhone, then the configuration should be right. The gold chip will be facing down.
Next, press the tray of the new iPhone back in, securing both the tray and the SIM card. There should be a little click when it is back in place. Now, you can power on your new iPhone. The phone number of the previous one should work for the new one. Youll also notice that any other information you had stored on the card will be accessible in the new phone.

New Line Or Existing Line
The Verizon Wireless representative will ask you if you want to port your new number to an existing Verizon Wireless line or to a new line. If it is to a new line, you will need to have a new line added to your Verizon Wireless account first. Verizon Wireless may provide you with a temporary number just for this purpose. The temporary number will be replaced by your new number when the porting process completes. It does not matter which area code the temporary number is in.
If you are porting your new number to an existing line, you will be porting the new number over top of the existing number which means you will lose the old/current number permanently. So if you need to keep the old number, then open a new line for the new number. You may want to consider using call forwarding from the old number to the new number so you dont miss any calls.
