How To Check iPhone Data Usage

Thats done! So, these are the ways through which you can monitor the mobile data usage on your iPhone and also cut down the unnecessary data consumption. Though the built-in cellular tracker is quite efficient, it lacks the option to show real-time data consumption. But bother not, this is where the third-party data trackers have a role to play. That said, let us know your feedback and the preferred way of keeping an eye on the mobile data usage on iOS.

View How Much Mobile Data You’re Using

To see how much mobile data you’ve used, go to Settings > Mobile Data or Settings > Cellular. If you’re using an iPad, you may see Settings > Mobile Data.

  • Scroll down to find out which apps are using mobile data. If you don’t want an app to use mobile data, you can turn it off for that app. When mobile data is turned off, apps will only use Wi-Fi for data.
  • To see the mobile data usage for individual System Services, go to Settings > Mobile Data or Settings > Cellular. Then tap System Services in the list under Mobile Data. Mobile data can’t be turned on or off for individual System Services.
  • You can view the data-usage statistics for an app from a current period, or view app data statistics for apps that use data when you were roaming. To reset these statistics, go to Settings > Mobile Data or Settings > Cellular, and tap Reset Statistics.
  • When you’re using an iPhone with Dual SIM, you can see how much mobile data you’ve used with your selected mobile data number.

To get the most accurate mobile data usage from a current period, contact your network provider.

Want To Reset The Current Period

If you want to reset the Current Period so you can keep track of the data youve used in a certain window of time, you can do so by tapping Reset Statistics. This feature is great for keeping track of how much data you use in a single month, especially if you dont have an unlimited data plan.

To Reset Statistics, go to Settings -> Cellular -> Reset Statistics. Then, tap Reset Statistics when the confirmation alert appears at the bottom of the screen. Once you do, youll see that it says 0 bytes next to Current Period.

Monitor Your iPhone App Use For Data Consumption

The one other thing that you can do to keep from burning through your data is to close out any apps when you are not using them. There are some apps that use a lot of data when youre not connected to a Wi-Fi network, and they keep running in the background when they are open, even if you are not actively using them.

A couple of times a day, you can close out your apps by double-tapping the Home button and swiping up for each of the app previews that come up on your iPhones screen. Closing the app clears it from the application memory. This will stop it from using that precious mobile data in the background.

The best way to keep control of your data usage is to check periodically to see how much you have left. Apart from that, take some time to think about whether you want to go with an unlimited plan at this point in your life. If you do decide to accept a plan that has data limits, follow the tips we mentioned, and hopefully, you wont be hit with overage charges anymore.

Using cellular data when traveling can quickly get very expensive, as you normally pay extra for using other carrier’s cellular networks. This is called Roaming. Fortunately, your iPhone and iPad know when they’re on your carrier’s network or when they’re roaming on a foreign network, so you can easily disable cellular data only while roaming without the need to worry about turning it off entirely. Step 1: On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.

Step 2: Tap the Cellular option. Note that it may be called Mobile Data or Cellular Data in some cases, depending on your device, iOS version, and regional settings.

Step 3: At the top of this screen, look for Cellular Data Options. If this says Roaming Off, then you’re OK cellular data will be automatically disabled as soon your device detects that it’s roaming on another carrier’s network.

Step 4: If you see Roaming On instead, tap this to open your Cellular Data Options.

Step 5: Tap the switch beside Data Roaming at the very top of the screen to toggle it off.
