You can feel confident about upgrading to the iPhone 13 if you have an iPhone X. This phone launched in 2017 and is falling behind in big ways when it comes to speed, battery life and camera features.
Let’s start with the performance. The iPhone X runs on a much older A11 Bionic chip that’s now four years old, while the iPhone 13 Pro runs on Apple’s new A15 Bionic processor. That new processor is way ahead of the A11 chip, which only has a two-core neural engine compared to the A15 Bionic’s 16-core neural engine.
The iPhone’s neural engine is what powers tasks that rely on machine learning and artificial intelligence, which is increasingly becoming a bigger part of the iPhone experience. Things like app suggestions in the App Library and Apple’s Translate app rely on machine learning to function, which indicates that the iPhone X may struggle to keep up with newer capabilities.
The iPhone X also has a dual-lens camera similar to that of the iPhone XS, meaning it’s missing the iPhone 13’s new features in addition to Night mode, Deep Fusion and the ability to control depth and blur levels in Portrait mode. Like the iPhone XS, you’re only getting a 7-megapixel front camera compared to a 12-megapixel selfie camera on Apple’s newer phones.
And of course, there’s the benefit of getting 5G support, more storage space, a refreshed design and the option to use MagSafe accessories on the iPhone 13.

If you’re using an iPhone 11, we recommend upgrading to an iPhone 14 . In the last three years, Apple has made enough changes to features including battery life, performance, screen quality, cameras and durability to merit buying a new iPhone.
Upgrading to the iPhone 14 will get you 5G support, more storage a better main camera with a wider aperture lens, new video shooting options like Action mode and Cinematic mode, a better selfie camera with Night mode and Apple’s Photonic Engine processing, compatibility with Apple’s MagSafe accessories, longer battery life and faster performance. That’s in addition to car-crash detection and Apple’s new emergency satellite messaging feature.
Most of the photography and videography improvements are dramatic changes compared to the iPhone 11. And the longer battery life and additional storage space are welcomed upgrades that you’ll notice on a daily basis.
As previously mentioned, if you go for the 14 Pro instead, you get a new 48-megapixel main camera, a closer 3x optical zoom versus the 11 Pro Max’s 2x zoom, the Dynamic Island instead of the notch and numerous other upgrades like an always-on display.
The bottom line: The iPhone 14 lineup includes enough changes to justify upgrading from the iPhone 11. But if your phone is still in good condition and you’re satisfied with it, install iOS 16 and hold onto it for another year.

The Processors Are Basically The Same
Apple split the A15 processor into two flavors with the iPhone 13a 4-core GPU for the iPhone 13 and 13 mini, and a 5-core GPU variant for the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Maxand took it even further with the iPhone 14. The iPhone 14 Pro models have Apples newest A16 processor while the iPhone 14 Plus has the higher-end version of last years A15.
But while it might seem like a huge upgrade, its really not. In our testing, the A16 is barely faster than the A15certainly not anything thats going to be noticeable in day-to-day use. So if you buy an iPhone 14 Plus it wont feel any slower than an iPhone 14 Pro Max.

I have had this phone for 2 months, it is a value for its money, this is my first iPhone, I had been using redmi devices in the past. it took a while to get used to the interface, but the device performs very well, Its battery performance is very good I can get up to 7 hours of battery life on normal usage, and it charges pretty quickly from 0 to 80 percent even though from 80 to 100 it does take a long time. its dual-camera setup is top tier, it out beats mobile phones in its price range.

Despite the discrepancy in body size, the iPhone 12 display and the iPhone XR display are exactly the same size. Both measure 6.1 inches corner-to-corner, which is generally considered small-to-medium in todays wider smartphone market.
The shared 60Hz refresh rate which really is unforgivable in the case of the iPhone 12 at a time when rivals offer 120Hz is where the similarities end. The iPhone 12 display is leagues ahead of its older sibling.
The iPhone 12 display is a Super Retina XDR OLED, while the iPhone XRs is a Liquid Retina IPS LCD. Breaking those arcane terms down, the iPhone 12s 2532 x 1170 Super Retina is sharper than the iPhone XRs 1792 X 828 Liquid Retina and by some margin.
Even more consequential is the iPhone 12 displays OLED attributes, as opposed to the iPhone XRs use of old IPS LCD technology. This ensures the newer phone delivers far punchier yet more natural colors, as well as truer blacks and infinitely higher color contrast.
Like we said, it would have been nice to see the iPhone 12 stretch its legs when it comes to refresh rate. But make no mistake, the display on this device is superior by an order of magnitude, with the iPhone XR left looking rather dated.

iPhone 12 Vs iPhone Xr: Design
That difference of two years between these two phones is apparent when you look at the devices side by side. In fact, you could say that gap appears even wider.
At the time of the iPhone XRs arrival, its soft, rounded design was starting to become stale. We first saw this look with the iPhone 6 in 2014, and it was only modestly revised with the iPhone X in 2017.
In our review, we noted that the iPhone XR was essentially an all-screen version of the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 8 which is fitting description. We also pointed out that the XR was a lot chunkier than its more premium sibling of the time, the iPhone XS.
Measuring 150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3mm, and with a weight of 194g, the XR is certainly far chunkier than the iPhone 12. Apples latest phone is a relatively diminutive 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.4mm, and it weighs just 164g.
Despite being slimmer and lighter, the iPhone 12 appears to be more rugged than the XR. Its IP68 rating makes it more water-tight than the IP67-certified iPhone XR, while Apples new nano-crystalline Ceramic Shield screen delivers four times the drop-resistance.
The iPhone 12 also sports a far more stylish and unique design. While plenty of comparisons have been made with the iPhone 4, the iPhone 12s perfectly flat edges and sharp corners stand out a mile in this curve-obsessed smartphone landscape.

If you bought the iPhone XS, XS Max or XR at launch, that means your phone is roughly four years old and may be starting to feel sluggish. That alone makes a strong case for upgrading, but there’s plenty more to gain.
Compared to the iPhone XS, the iPhone 14 provides six hours of additional battery life . In addition to everything that’s new in the iPhone 14 specifically, you’ll also get other upgrades Apple has added to the iPhone over the past few years.
Those include 5G support, more storage , faster performance and a better camera. The iPhone XS generation lacks Night mode for taking clearer pictures in the dark, and it also doesn’t have Deep Fusion, which is Apple’s name for its image processing technique that improves detail and clarity in darker environments. The XS’s front camera has a lower 7-megapixel resolution compared to the larger and newer 12-megapixel sensor on the iPhone 14. If you’re upgrading from an iPhone XR, you’ll also get an additional camera with an ultrawide lens for taking broader group shots for the first time.
The iPhone 14 also has a larger 6.1-inch screen compared to the iPhone XS’ 5.8-inch display . The design has also changed quite a bit over the past four years newer models have flat edges, a slightly smaller notch, different finishes and a new “squircle”-shaped camera module that replaces the pill-shaped rear camera cutout. So your phone will not only feel more modern, but it’ll look newer, too.

Theres no getting around it: the iPhone 12 is a much more capable phone than the iPhone XR in all ways but two.
It has bags more power, a much fresher and slimmer design, and a display thats both sharper and more vibrant than the XRs ageing tech. In addition, the iPhone 12s dual camera system is considerably more advanced and flexible than the single setup of the iPhone XR.

It represents a huge leap forward in performance, with almost 12 billion transistors. Apple promises blazing speeds and performance from this new chip, and given Apples past performance, we believe them.
The iPhone XR is rocking the A12 Bionic from 2018. The A12 is certainly a powerful processor that can stand on its own, but with the leaps in processing power each year, two years certainly make a difference. Furthermore, if youre looking to pick up a new device today, its usually best to grab the one that will last the longest and Apples A14 Bionic will be running iOS smoothly for years to come.
We found that the iPhone 12 performed as expected when it came to battery life. You can easily make it through the day on a full charge. Under normal use it typically ended the day with 30% remaining. Its likely even with heavier use that the battery leaves plenty of room to run. Both phones include fast charging and wireless charging, though the iPhone 12 has faster 18W charging as well.
With a great battery life and a faster processor means this is another win for the iPhone 12.

iPhone 12 Vs iPhone Xr: Battery Life
When Apple launched the iPhone XR, it claimed that it offered the best battery life ever in an iPhone. We found that to be true at the time, but we didnt expect that the case would continue to be made for the phone two years later.
Apple has arguably taken a step back with the stamina of its smartphones in recent years. Thats perfectly illustrated by comparing the iPhone 12 to the iPhone XR. We specifically noted in our review that the iPhone 12 simply didnt last as long as the iPhone XR between charges.
Both handsets will get you through a day of moderate use, but the iPhone XR will do so with considerably more headroom. If youre fairly frugal with your usage, the older phone may even get you through a second day.
There are a couple of reasons for this performance shortfall in the newer device. For one, the iPhone 12s battery is smaller than the iPhone XRs, at 2815mAh compared to 2942mAh.
Another crucial difference is between the two displays. The iPhone 12 pumps out way more pixels than the iPhone XR, which inevitably takes its toll on battery life.
Finally, theres that matter of 5G connectivity. Hooking into the intermittent broadband-like speeds of 5G really takes it out of a tiny smartphone battery. Its early days for the next-gen network, and phone manufacturers are having to adapt to its mercurial capabilities.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have an upgraded main sensor, with a wider f/1.5 aperture compared to the f/1.6 aperture on the iPhone 13 and iPhone 12 models – expected to improve low light shots. All models have an ultra-wide sensor with f/2.4 aperture, but the iPhone 14 models also have a on board that too is designed to help with low light shots.
Results in good conditions are excellent for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 12 models based on our experience and they are good in low light too, with Night Mode having to kick in less than the older iPhone 11 thanks to the slightly wider aperture. We expect the same from the iPhone 14 models, if not more so, but we are still waiting to test them out.
There’s optical image stabilisation on all models, Portrait Lighting with six effects, as well as Smart HDR 4 for photos and Night Mode. Night Mode is also offered on the front camera of all models.
All models being compared here also have HDR video recording with Dolby Vision up to 30fps, which is supported on the rear and front cameras and kicks in automatically.
