The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus come with two new safety features. With Crash Detection, all iPhone 14 models can now detect when youre in a car crash and call for help. And in November, Apple will launch its Emergency SOS via satellite feature that will allow iPhone 14 owners to send emergency messages using satellites to summon help. Its a fantastic feature for someone who often goes hiking or travels through areas without cellular coverage.
Emergency SOS via satellite will be free for the first two years. Apple hasnt said what it expects the cost to be after that.
iPhone 14 Pro Unveils Notch
The iPhone 14 Pro will come in four colors: space black, silver, gold, and deep purple.
The devices front eliminates the much-maligned notch, has a true-depth camera, and includes a brand new feature that Apple is calling dynamic island.
The feature will be like a widget on top of your home screen, where youll be able to see alerts in a concise way without distracting you from what youre already doing on your phone.
You can get a games updates or know when your ride share has arrived without leaving the app youre in, Apples Alan Dye said.
Each alert has its own personality so they areeasy to identify in a glance, he added, saying it displays dynamic activity, always active and visible.
The island is interactive so you can have easy access to controls for music, a timer, and other tools.
The iOS 16 lock screen will also work with dynamic island, Dye said.
Apple also revealed a 48-megapixel camera with a quad-pixel sensor that will optimize for detail.
The new sensor groups every four pixels into one large one, according to Apple, and theres an up to two-times improvement in low light compared to the iPhone13 Pro.
iPhone 14 Vs Galaxy S22 Vs Pixel : Verdict
You can tell that all three phone makers have put a great deal of effort into delivering top notch displays with their latest smartphones. Indeed, when we reviewed the iPhone 14, Galaxy S22 and Pixel 7, we counted the display of each phone among their best features.
But someone’s got to win our display face-off, and to my eyes, that’s the Galaxy S22. Samsung’s phone has the brightest display, the fastest refresh rate and the most accurate colors, even if the iPhone 14’s colors are a tad more detailed. I also like that the Galaxy S22’s camera cutout gives you a full screen to work with, as opposed to the notch that dips into the iPhone 14’s display.
You’ll be please with the screens on either the iPhone 14 or the Pixel 7, should you pick those phones. The iPhone 14 handles color particularly well, and both it and the Pixel are bright enough to use in direct sunlight. But in a very tight competition, the Samsung Galaxy S22 stands out as the display to beat.

It might not seem like a big difference, but the iPhone 14 Plus’ 6.7-inch screen is significantly larger than the regular iPhone 14’s 6.1-inch panel. The Plus’ display delivers more of everything, whether you’re looking for a more immersive viewing experience, a bigger viewfinder for taking photos or you want to see more text on screen at once.
So you’re getting the same size screen as the iPhone 14 Pro Max for $200 less than Apple’s top-end flagship. That’s a pretty good value.
iPhone 14 Pro Max Review
Apple took its popular flagship phone and made it even better with the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Like the smaller pro, it has an upgraded camera system, the Dynamic Island, and an always-on display.
These updates in a larger form-factor with a longer battery life make this the best big iPhone yet. We love how the Dynamic Island changes things up with an always-available view of Live Activities.
While the always-on display can sometimes feel a little too “on,” it is a welcome new feature. At-a-glance information through widgets and Live Activities make the iPhone useful even when it’s laying on a table.
There’s not much to say about the larger model that hasn’t been said about the smaller one. They have the same feature set with different screen sizes, so everything is here.
The 48MP Main Camera is a game changer, especially for those who are great with a camera. The brighter display, longer battery life, and emergency features are also welcome additions.
Our fingers are crossed for a USB-C charging port and better waterproofing in the “iPhone 15” for next year. For now, this is the best pro iPhone lineup yet.

iPhone 14 Review: Cameras
The iPhone 14s main camera doesnt get the bump to 48MP that the iPhone 14 Pro series does, but it does feature enhanced cameras in its own way. The main 12MP wide camera has a larger sensor than the one in the iPhone 13, with 1.9 micrometer pixels and a faster f/1.7 aperture. As a result, you should expect better action shots and low-light performance.
The iPhone 14 also packs an ultrawide camera thats rated to capture 4x more of a scene and deliver 2x better low-light performance. And the TrueDepth camera offers autofocus for the first time along with a faster f/1.9 aperture. To help capture brighter images across the board, theres a new computational photography feature called Photonic Engine.
In this first comparison shot with the Galaxy S22 featuring dipladenia flowers, the iPhone 14 shows how superior its cameras can be. On the iPhone, you can make out not just more details in the petals but more water droplets.
The iPhone 14 also has the edge versus the Pixel 6 in this shot of Halloween decorations. The colors are punchier on the iPhone when you look at the sunflowers and gnomes, though the Pixel does a better job exposing the decorations in the shadowy background.
Turning to the ultrawide camera, the iPhone 14 edges out the Pixel 6 with a slightly brighter image with more contrast as you look at the tree in the water. And it fits in more of the scene, though both images are excellent.
iPhone 14 Pro: Price And Availability
The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max launched alongside the standard iPhone 14 on Sept. 16, 2022. The iPhone 14 Plus will be launching at a later date on Oct. 7, 2022.
The Pro models come in four colors: Space Black, Deep Purple, silver, and gold. You can get the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage capacities. Prices for the iPhone 14 Pro start at $999 for the base model, then $1099, $1299, and $1499, respectively. The iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at $1099 for the base model, then $1199, $1399, and $1599, respectively, depending on storage size.

What Not To Expect Today
While the iPhone 14 is expected to be front and center, some other hardware announcements are less likely.
Many analysts believe Apple will wait to unveil new iPads and Mac computers at a separate event, possibly next month. Apple is also generally not expected to unveil its long-rumored and much-anticipated AR headset.

iPhone 14 And iPhone 14 Plus
The Plus versions screen size increases from 6.1 inches to 6.7. Theres a new blue color option, improved heat dissipation for the users head, and a 1,200-nit high dynamic range display with Dolby Vision support. They take after the Max in terms of battery life.
With the introduction of the A15 Bionic chip, the clock speeds of all the cores have increased, significantly increasing overall performance. Apple improved the 12-megapixel main camera by increasing the size of the sensor to 1.9 microns and adding sensor shift optical image stabilization. Apple claims that you can achieve higher quality outcomes in low light conditions. The new TrueDepth camera has shorter focus times and performs better in low light. Apples new Photonic Engine software promises improved image processing.
When shooting video, switching to action mode enhances digital picture stabilization by employing the entire sensor.
Consistent with rumors, the iPhone has abandoned physical SIM card compatibility in the United States in favor of electronic SIMs. New sensors allow for crash warning, and a satellite antenna and accompanying software keep you connected in case of an emergency even when youre miles from civilization. The second is provided at no cost for a period of two years.
The base model iPhone 14 is priced at $799 , while the Plus model begins at $899 . The 14 will be available for pre-order on September 9 and will ship on September 16 the 14 Plus will be released on October 7.
iPhone 14 Review: Performance
The iPhone 14s chip is new and old at the same time. Its the A15 Bionic from last years iPhone 13 Pro, so you get a slight step up in graphics performance with its 5-core GPU.
In my testing, I was impressed with the console-like visuals offered by Oceanhorn 2 . I marveled at the water near a dock and the undulating light reflecting off the ripples.
NBA 2K also delivered dazzling graphics, including a realistic looking Giannis Antetokounmpo looking downtrodden after I failed to score. Another plus, the iPhone 14 didnt get too warm while playing for 30 minutes, and this is likely thanks to a new internal design thats optimized for dissipating heat.
On Geekbench, which measures overall performance, the iPhone 14 scored 1,727 in single core and 4,553 in multicore. Thats just slightly higher than the iPhone 13 but well above the Galaxy S22 .
We saw a bigger boost in graphics performance, where the iPhone 14 turned in a score of 11,531 and 69 frames per second on 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited. The iPhone 13 mustered 9.331 and 51 fps. The Galaxy S22 was behind once again at 9,976/59 fps.
We didnt see an improvement in our video editing test, which involves transcoding a 4K video clip to 1080p in the Adobe Premiere Rush app. It took the iPhone 14 28 seconds compared to a slightly faster 25.9 seconds for the iPhone 13. Still, the Galaxy S22 needed 47 seconds.

New A15 And A16 Processors
The word new there is debatable, but theres certainly change of sorts in the processor department.
The non-Pro models are still running A15 Bionic chips, just like all four of the 13-series iPhones last fall. But this has been upgraded to carry an additional GPU core , and should thus deliver somewhat improved performance over the standard 13.
Far more excitingly, the Pro models get processors from the next generation: the A16 Bionic. As was predicted back in 2020, this is being manufactured with a 4nm rather than 5nm process, which should mean improved performance and power efficiency. Apple hasnt given us much concrete detail about the performance we can expect from the A16 , but the company did claim its 40 percent faster than the closest competition.
In other words, expect the 14 Pro to absolutely obliterate any and all speed benchmarks, while delivering less noticeable improvements in the real world until the available software can catch up with its capabilities.
/9 Emergency Satellite Sos Service
The new phone introduces a feature likely to quickly rank among the best iPhone features for users while traveling. Emergency satellite SOS mode relies on satellites to let users continue to use their phones while outside the range of cell towers or networks. This proves essential in potential emergency situations where someone needs to send a text.
The new feature allows users to send brief texts beyond a network. This service also works in concert with the Find My application. Emergency satellite SOS mode kicks off in November and will be free to users for two years, after which presumably a fee will become standard.

Getting An iPhone 14 Pro Max Is Nearly Impossible Right Now But There Are Alternatives
Apple’s largest and most expensive iPhone is sold out right now.
Apple long ago stopped breaking out iPhone sales by models. And yet, as Apple’s fourth quarter has ended, it’s clear which of the recently introduced iPhone 14 versions is breaking through the most based on availability.
Just days after the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max arrived on the market, it’s the iPhone 14 Pro Max that’s the most difficult to find. The tight supplies for that model come less than two weeks before a similar model, the iPhone 14 Plus, arrives in stores.
Should would-be iPhone 14 Pro Max buyers consider buying the less expensive model that happens to be the same size? Probably not, although it might make sense for some folks who rather not wait.
Apple iPhone 14 Audio
At least Apple has been consistent on the audio side. All four iPhone 14 models have stereo speakers and spatial audio support, and create loud , clear, and bright sound. In movies and music that support it, spatial audio adds a sort of surround-sound effect. There are titles on Netflix, Amazon, and other streaming services to enjoy the feature, plus Apple Music has an entire spatial audio playlist to dive into. Everything we played on the iPhone 14 sounded great.

iPhone 14 Vs iPhone 11 11 Pro
If you’re using an iPhone 11, we recommend upgrading to an iPhone 14 . In the last three years, Apple has made enough changes to features including battery life, performance, screen quality, cameras and durability to merit buying a new iPhone.
Upgrading to the iPhone 14 will get you 5G support, more storage a better main camera with a wider aperture lens, new video shooting options like Action mode and Cinematic mode, a better selfie camera with Night mode and Apple’s Photonic Engine processing, compatibility with Apple’s MagSafe accessories, longer battery life and faster performance. That’s in addition to car-crash detection and Apple’s new emergency satellite messaging feature.
Most of the photography and videography improvements are dramatic changes compared to the iPhone 11. And the longer battery life and additional storage space are welcomed upgrades that you’ll notice on a daily basis.
As previously mentioned, if you go for the 14 Pro instead, you get a new 48-megapixel main camera, a closer 3x optical zoom versus the 11 Pro Max’s 2x zoom, the Dynamic Island instead of the notch and numerous other upgrades like an always-on display.
The bottom line: The iPhone 14 lineup includes enough changes to justify upgrading from the iPhone 11. But if your phone is still in good condition and you’re satisfied with it, install iOS 16 and hold onto it for another year.
