Option : External Storage Devices For More iPhone Storage

How to Free Up the Most Storage Space on Your iPhone

Several years later, tech manufacturers have finally developed external storage devices that are compatible with the Apple system.

There are a few external devices that you can buy to increase the overall storage capacity of your iPhone. These devices are typically plugged into the iPhones using a Lightning connector or Lightning adapter while others are designed to work just like flash drives.

Tagged among the best external storage drives for storing media files on new iPhones would include the following:

If plugging isnt your preference, you can go for wireless storage devices to increase your iPhone Storage instead.

You can buy a wireless hard drive thats compatible with your iPhone. Among the top picks would include Seagate One Touch Portable Hard Drive, WD External USB Portable Hard Drive, WD My Passport Ultra Portable Hard Drive and Crucial X6 SE Portable Solid State Drive, to name some.

Keeping the iPhone software updated is also recommended to ensure optimal system performance. Software updates may likewise embed some dedicated patches to eliminate useful files that are cached in certain apps and system services, thereby freeing up some storage space.

Cached files also take up a portion of the overall internal storage so clearing them out also helps maximize your iPhones storage space.

And thats how you can get more storage for your iPhone SE 3 and other iPhones running on the latest iOS version.

How Long Will 512gb Of Storage Last

I mean, look at it this way: with 256GB of storage, youll have enough room for 13,000 photos, 1000 songs, and 1400 videos on your phone. And even with all that, as well as all your apps and games, youll still have around 50GB of room left over.

The only upshot of having 512GB of storage is that youll have enough room on your iPhone to carry ALL your media with you at all times. That means all your , all your ebooks, all of your podcasts, and all of your apps and games. And even then, youll still probably have plenty left over.

Most iPhone users seldom break the 256GB threshold, so, yeah you probably dont need to fork out for a 512GB iPhone any time soon.

How Much Storage Do I Need On My iPhone 11

The amount of iPhone 11 storage you need depends on how you use yourphone. If you frequently capture photos or videos, download a lot of music, or install a bunchof games and apps, you should probably opt for the larger storage size.On the other hand, if you primarily stream video and music online, store most of yourphotos and videos in the cloud, and only install a few games and apps at a time, you can save money by getting a smaller storage option.

I Want To Love The iPhone 14 Pro Max

The Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max gives me almost everything I want in a big phone that doesnt fold in half. I get the best screen, the best cameras, and the newest Apple A16 Bionic processor, only available on the best of Apples iPhones.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is the best of Apples phones, and it beats the others in every way, right? Not so fast theres one aspect where Apples most expensive iPhone is no better than the base-model iPhone 14.

We have a full breakdown of how much each model of the iPhone 14 costs. Both the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which costs $1,099 / £1,199 / AU$1,899 to start, and the iPhone 14, which costs only $799 / £849 / AU$1,399, give you 128GB of storage at that price.

On both phones you can double the storage to 256GB for $100 / £110 / AU$170. You can double that again for twice the premium, or $200 / £220 / AU$350. On the Pro devices you can go even higher, to 1TB, for another $200 / £220 / AU$350.

Lets be frank that 256GB tier is where the iPhone 14 Pro Max should begin. Its silly that Apples lowest-tier iPhone 14 and its cutting-edge, supersize iPhone 14 Pro Max should have the same storage capacity.

The key benefits of the Pro Max device demand more storage, and we would hardly recommend buying the biggest phone without a storage bump, unless you rely primarily on cloud services like Apples iCloud or Google Drive and Google Photos for backup.

Why Do You Need A Smartphone With 1tb Of Storage

Dealing with iOS apps that take up way too much storage

Before talking about a 1 TB smartphone, let me guide you through the medium through which storage is measured. There is a reason why I am explaining this to you.

Memory or storage in computers is measured using bits and bytes. Talking about Bits and Bytes, 1 TB is equal to 1024 GB and 1 GB is equal to 1024 MB. So, 1 TB is surely a huge amount of storage, and normally in 2019 at $1000 will have it. With 1024 GB or 1 TB storage, you can store up to 1000 full HD movies or 500 2K videos easily.

A mobile phone with 1024 GB of built-in storage will make your smartphone never run out of memory limit issues. That’s a rare phenomenon to achieve in mobiles.

Such a mobile phone will allow you to store dozens of full HD, 2K, and even 4K videos and songs. Now, storing BLU Ray movies is made possible with big storage mobile phones.

The mobile industry has witnessed gradual growth in terms of sales numbers because new features are being added day after day. Currently, you can find budget smartphones with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB inbuilt storage, and most flagships are powered with 256 GB inbuilt storage. Recently Apple released iPhone 11 Pro Max with 512 GB storage and that’s the highest to date, although there are other manufacturers like Samsung, LG, Oppo, Vivo, Realme that already have their 512 GB model. So, 512 GB ROM mobile by 2020 will be a common scene. What surprise would be the 1 TB ROM smartphones?

What Storage Size iPhone 12 Pro Should You Get

The iPhone 12 Pro will be available for the masses starting on October 23, 2020. This is the latest generation for the Pro model, which is the new flagship that Apple offers every year. The new iPhone 12 Pro has a brand new flat-edge design reminiscent of the iPhone 4 and 5 days, 5G, A14 Bionic, upgraded camera systems, and more. If you are looking to pick up an iPhone 12 Pro, they come in three storage capacities: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. So which size is right for you? Let us help you decide!

iPhone 12 Pro Storage Size: Local Storage Or Cloud Storage

What Storage Size Should You Get For Your iPhone??

While the 512GB is the best value, you may not actually need all of that space. Let’s take into account whether you you actually require a lot of space, or do you use enough cloud storage services that you don’t rely on local storage?

Apple provides everyone with 5GB of iCloud storage for free. Even though it costs you nothing, it’s such a measly and paltry amount that it is actually insignificant for most people. After all, 5GB isn’t even going to be enough for an iCloud backup! However, you can buy more iCloud space if you need it, and honestly, we recommend doing so. Plans for iCloud start at $0.99 for 50GB, $2.99 for 200GB, and $9.99 for 2TB. Apple is also going to include iCloud subscriptions in its Apple One bundles coming later this year, so those will be worth looking into if you use Apple Arcade, Apple News+, Apple TV+, Apple Music, and the new Fitness+ services.

With an active iCloud subscription, you could use iCloud Photo Library to store all of your photos, rather than have local copies on your device. And with Apple Music, you get iCloud Music Library, so you can stream your music anytime, instead of having to sync it all locally. However, be aware that you aren’t able to shoot and upload 4K video directly to iCloud, unfortunately, so you will still need to have some local storage on your iPhone 12 Pro for high-resolution video.

Who Needs 1tb Of Storage On A Phone Anyway

Why does anyone need 1TB of storage? Apple is pitching its 1TB models meaning its Pro models at content creators, people that shoot a lot of videos. Apple has even added in things like ProRes to make the editing process even better on its Pro models.

Apple also upped the iPhone 14 Pros video-shooting chops you can film in 4K up to 30fps with the iPhone 14 Pro models and, with ProRes, a higher quality video format, you can then edit in more detail after footage has been filmed.

If you shoot lots of video in 4K, youll need plenty of storage. This is why the 1TB iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max exists. It is designed, predominantly, with videographers in mind. With 1TB of storage and Apples new ProRes, making and editing professional-looking videos on iPhone has never been easier.

Most users, however, will be fine with either 128GB or 256GB models. I have a 128GB phone right now and I am no way near using all of its capacity. And Im a pretty heavy user too.

    Which iPhone Models Support 5g

All four iPhone 13 and available iPhone 12 models support 5G wireless technology. Even the new iPhone SE supports Sub-6, low-band 5G networks.

5G continues to roll out across the US, and while it is debatable if there are benefits to the speeds of the network, in my experience, the broad coverage of low-band 5G has solved my connectivity issues in spotty coverage areas with past iPhone models.

Even more importantly, the 5G iPhone models have Qualcomm chipsets inside that are proving to provide better RF reception than we saw in past iPhones that had Intel chipsets. The presence of a Qualcomm chipset has made it possible for me to use an iPhone 13 Pro Max as my daily driver since I purchased it.

Check Apples Recommendations In Your iPhone Storage Settings

Apple recommends several ways to free up space on your iPhone based on the apps and files you have. To see Apples recommendations, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Then scroll down and select Enable or the > arrow icon next to a recommendation.

Note: You can see more recommendations by tapping Show All in the top-right.

The recommendations with an Enable button will automatically delete data from your iPhone based on certain conditions. For example, you can choose to automatically delete all text messages that are over a year old.

On the other hand, the recommendations that have an arrow next to them will allow you to manually delete app data. For example, if you select Review Large Attachments, you can manually choose and delete the largest attachments from your text messages.

    How We Test iPhones

As with any smartphone we test at Tom’s Guide, we evaluate iPhones for days in real-world use cases. We also benchmark Apple’s phones using a gamut of performance-measuring apps that allow us to compare iPhone performance to what Android devices are capable of. In addition to synthetic benchmarks, we also run real-world tests, including a video transcoding test in Adobe Premiere Rush that compares the iPhone’s processing speed with other devices.

In our lab, we use a light meter to ascertain display quality data, like brightness and color accuracy to help us evaluate the display of the best iPhones. Our proprietary battery test determines longevity on a charge by endlessly streaming webpages over an LTE network we then recharge the iPhones to see how quickly they charge in 15-minute intervals.

To compare cameras, we take any iPhone we review out and shoot photos in a variety of settings. We also bring along a comparable smartphone to see how the iPhone’s photographic output measures up.

We explore Apple’s iOS improvements, test gaming performance and evaluate the phone’s speakers â and each of these factors play a part in our final verdict.

    The Power User Options: 512gb/1tb

Alongside the already large 512GB option, Apple has a 1TB option for the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. If youre an average user, both storage options will be more than youll ever need. You could opt for one of these for peace of mind, but youll be better served spending your money on some cases and covers instead, and especially some MagSafe accessories.

On the other hand, there are people who may need this much space. Take the 1TB iPhone 14 Pro if youre into shooting 1080p video, for instance, you can hold around 500 hours of content on your smartphone before you run out of space. The number shrinks to 30 hours if youre using 4K. That number will vary depending on the format you choose whether HEVC, ProRes, or the basic MPW. If youre more of a shutterbug, you can hold around 250,000 photos before you need to consider offloading. You can slash that number in half for a 512GB iPhone.

The 1TB option may be ostentatious, but if youre into videography, it isnt a terrible option to have. For everyone else, either the 256GB or 512GB options would be a better choice.
