Epic Ruling: Changes For The App Store
It’s likely Apple will address the recent decision in Epic Game’s lawsuit filed against the iPhone maker. On Friday, U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ordered Apple to let developers use payment options beyond the App Store, which would circumvent Apple’s 30% commission on most app transactions.
Epic Games has said it is appealing the judge’s decision rejecting Epic’s allegations that Apple ran a monopoly.
But “it won’t be until next year that developers can do steering A/B testing,” Munster said on Twitter. ” Apple will probably make further changes in the next 5 years, which will collectively yield an App Store that is a favorable asset from an investor’s standpoint.”

iPhone 13 Pricing And Release
Apple will likely release four distinct models of the “iPhone 13” identically priced to the iPhone 12 counterparts. Reports suggest that demand for the iPhone 12 mini may lead to Apple de-emphasizing the product, but an “iPhone 13 mini” is still expected.
Apple may give users different choices over storage options. Currently, there are three options in the non-pro lineup at 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. The 128GB option is $50 more expensive than the 64GB option, and the 256GB option is $100 more expensive than that.
Apple could push the baseline to 128GB and offer 256GB and 512GB options above that. The pro models may get 1TB options for even more money likely a $200 premium.

iPhone 13 Pro And Pro Max
Apple says it’s the “most pro design,” which is probably the most Apple thing I’ve heard the company say in a while.
It comes in four colors: silver, graphite, gold and “sierra blue.”
The iPhone 13 Pro has a bigger battery, Apple added. And it includes a better GPU than the iPhone 13.
Apple said it’s announcing a new “Super Retina XDR display” which has 1000 nits of peak outdoor brightness, 25% higher than last year. And it can change frame rate on the fly, increasing frame rate to 120Hz when you need, but ramping it down when you don’t. In its demo, Apple showed it going down to 10Hz.
iPhone 13 Pro Camera Upgrades
Apple’s updates for its wide and ultrawide allow for better low light performance, Apple says, and can also do macro photography — shooting a subject as close as 2 centimeters away.
Apple says it’s also made improvements to the software that recognizes people’s skin tones, and you can now apply tone and warmth filters that the camera will remember.

Does The Invite Or ‘unleashed’ Hint Anything
Apple sent out invites teasing its special event with the tagline “Unleashed” – a possible clue that more powerful M1X MacBook Pro laptops might appear.
Like many other Apple event announcements, if you open the invite itself on a newer iPhone and then tap on it, youll see an easter egg pop up. This particular one shows the event date as well as an Apple logo whizzing by you. You can preview the augmented reality experience in the tweet here.
iPhone 13 Vs iPhone 1: Cameras
Both of these phones pack dual 12MP cameras – one wide, one ultra-wide. But the iPhone 13 system is notably improved, with less noise in most scenarios than in comparable shots from the iPhone 12.
Its not hard to see why this is the case. The iPhone 13s 12MP wide sensor can suck up 47% more light than before, and captures chunky 1.7µm pixels versus the iPhone 12s 1.4µm.
You also get the sensor shift stabilization system that made shots freakishly steady on last years iPhone 12 Pro Max, which is an impressive addition. The combination of larger sensor and superior stabilization means that low light shots are quite a bit better on the iPhone 13 than on the iPhone 12.
The newer phones ultra-wide sensor also sees improvements, with a wider f/1.8 aperture compared to its pokey f/2.4 iPhone 12 counterpart. Again, it provides a step up in low light conditions.
As always, Apples camera software is as important as its camera hardware – perhaps even more so.
This year you gain Photographic Styles, which enables you to apply custom looks to all of your shots, from Rich Contrast to Cool. This goes beyond mere filters, fundamentally shifting the emphasis of the iPhone 13s shots without making things unnatural. It can be quite a subtle change as a result.
It takes some playing around with to get the results youre after, but its a fun addition.

A Revamped Pro Mac Mini
Just last year, Apple debuted a new Mac mini with its M1 processor that looked exactly like previous-generation models. But Cupertino is likely to announce a high-end Mac mini for the first time, revamping its small-print Mac that has been seen as a lifestyle computer.
The new high-end model will be more powerful and will likely replace the Intel models Apple is still selling in the market. The M1X-powered Mac mini will come with a plexiglass-like top, more Thunderbolt ports, a MagSafe power connector, and a magnetic charging connector just like the new M1 iMac.

As you may have noticed, beyond the starting prices remaining broadly the same, prices are slightly different for the higher storage capacities. But then, those storage capacities have received a bump up, with the introduction of a new 512GB top tier.
Also, UK prices have benefited from Apples recent currency rebalance, meaning that British buyers are getting a little more for their money this time around.
One other important note: Apple is keeping the iPhone 12 around for a second year, and has dropped the pricing accordingly.
The 64GB model now costs $699 / £679 / AU$1,199 for the 64GB model, moving up to $749 / £729 / AU$1,279 for 128GB and $849 / £829 / AU$1,449 for 256GB.

Apple Fitness Plus Gets Into Group Workouts
Apple’s always had hidden features to compete with friends in its motion and activity app, and now Apple’s adding group workouts too. In this case, you can start a workout with your friends from an iMessage chat conversation.
Apple says up to 32 people can participate and you’ll even know when friends are ahead of you in a bike class, for example.
What To Expect At The Event
The star of Apples October 18 event is expected to be the long-anticipated new M1X-powered MacBook Pros. Apple is rumored to be working on new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models that are powered by a so-called M1X processor.
The new MacBook Pros are expected to feature a mini-LED display, an HDMI port, an SD card slot, MagSafe for charging, and much more. Apple is also expected to ditch the controversial Touch Bar in favor of a traditional row of function keys. The design of the new MacBook Pros is expected to be similar to the latest iMac, iPhone, and iPad design language with flatter edges.
Apple is also rumored to be working on a new Mac mini with specs identical to the M1X MacBook Pro with up to 64GB RAM, 10-core CPU, and 16 or 32 graphics cores. Meanwhile, leaker Jon Prosser has reported that Apples M1X-powered Mac mini will also introduce a new generation of industrial design.
Continuing with the Mac focus of the event, we also expect Apple to announce macOS Montereys official release date during Mondays event. Monterey is currently in beta testing and is expected to be released to the public sooner rather than later.
Finally, AirPods 3 have been rumored for over a year and we finally expect them to be announced sometime this fall. Its possible that AirPods 3 are announced at the October 18 event, or that they are saved for sometime later this fall via a press release.

iPhone 13 Vs iPhone 1: Battery
The iPhone 12s 2815mAh battery represented an unfortunate rollback from its predecessor.
Thankfully, the iPhone 13 reverses the slide, packing in a larger battery. Apple doesnt tend to confirm how big its batteries are, but we now know that it packs a 3240mAh cell.
Thats a big increase in capacity, which explains why Apple is claiming that youll get 2.5 hours more out of the iPhone 13 on a single charge compared to the iPhone 12. Sure enough, we found the battery life to be significantly improved compared to the iPhone 12.
We got through each and every day of our test period with hours of charge to spare. Even on a 13-hour day where we pushed the battery to the limits, using the screen on full brightness for eight hours and 48 minutes, we were left with 20% in the tank.
While the iPhone 12 rarely left us sweating come the end of the day, 5G usage would drain its battery rather quickly, and video playback stamina was oddly worse than the iPhone 11 before it.
MagSafe returns for another spin, though there have been no second-generation improvements. The wireless charging rate remains at 15W.

A New Processor And Battery Life

The big upgrade on the tech specs is 5G and the new A14 Bionic processor to power it all. As with every new iPhone, the device is more powerful than the one before and that allows Apple to offer more things beyond just allowing you to load apps and games faster.
And of course, most of it will be invisible. The iPhone just works when you ask it to do something. Whether that’s getting you to your latest puzzle to solve in a game, or processing Dolby Vision ready HDR 4K footage in-camera as you go. And all at the same time not draining your battery really quickly.
It’s worth noting that the iPhone 12 Pro now starts at 128GB storage, double that of the iPhone 11 Pro, which makes the iPhone 12 Pro actually a little better value for money than the previous version, based on launch prices.
On the battery front, the iPhone performs as we would expect. It’s always hard to gauge battery life, especially as the new-normal means we really aren’t travelling as much as we once were. We’ve yet to really see how 5G usage affects performance long term, but a morning using 5G didn’t cause any major concerns. We will update this review over time as we use the iPhone 12 Pro more and in various use cases – especially on 5G – but so far we’ve not seen any indicators that this phone will struggle to make it through the day on a charge.

Apple Fitness+ Gets An Update Too
The fitness app available for Apple Watch will launch in 15 more countries and include additional types of experiences such as pilates and guided meditation. There are also workouts to help users get ready for snow season activities such as skiing or snowboarding.
The Fitness+ app will also add Group Workouts using the upcoming SharePlay feature for FaceTime launching on iOS 15. It can support up to 32 people at the same time.

Alleged iPhone 13 Pro Mockup Shows Smaller Notch Repositioned Earpiece And Front Camera
Images shared by Japanese site Mac Otakara claim to show a 3D-printed mockup of the upcoming 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro with a smaller notch, and repositioned earpiece and front camera, but with minimal changes otherwise.
According to the images, Apple plans to move the earpiece to the top of the notch within the screen bezel, lining up with a previous photo shared by MacRumors that shows the same design change.
The alleged iPhone 13 Pro mockup, which is presumably based on leaked design drawings that frequently circulate among case manufacturers and others well ahead of Apple’s official unveiling, also shows the front-facing camera moved to the left side of the notch, a change compared to its current location to the right side of the notch. Pictures of the alleged front glass panel for the iPhone 13 lineup shared with MacRumors also show a cutout on the left side of the notch for the camera.
Mac Otakara has also shared specific dimensions of the notch for the upcoming iPhone 13 Pro, demonstrating how much the notch is expected to shrink. Compared to the iPhone 12 Pro, the mockup suggests the 2021 Pro iPhone will feature a notch that is 5.35 mm in height vs. 5.30 mm for the iPhone 12 Pro, and 26.80 mm in width, down from 34.83 mm. Visually, the notch will be smaller in width but will be slightly taller.
