Having been checked as medically fit to enter, the first thing that struck me was the din.
The noise was one of the reasons Apple stores had become a little tough to tolerate.
I’d imagined, given that my county was restricting retail to 20% capacity, that the store might be blessed with a serene air. Instead, it was like the anticipatory buzz of a Selena Gomez concert.
I’d made an appointment and was soon greeted by a masked specialist. She was wearing what seemed to be a designer mask, conical like a lampshade at Design Within Reach.
Immediately, I realized this was all going to be a little different.
I’m used to going to Apple stores and fighting for a small corner of a table to chat about the product in question. Here, thanks to the rigors of social distancing, I was shown to a large table that we had all to ourselves.
As if this was Tiffany’s — or, perhaps, your local bakery at the crack of dawn — the specialist stood on one side of the table, spread her arms out wide, and said: “Here they all are.” Four each of iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, and the iPhone Mini, all in different colors. All there for me to peruse.
Before I could even ask a polite question, the specialist added: “Feel free to touch them and hold them.”
I showed her my XR and she immediately suggested the 12.
“I’m no sort of videographer,” I admitted.
Apple iPhone Xs Review: What You Need To Know
Lets take it from the top down. The Apple iPhone Xs is one of three phones launched by Apple in 2018, and it sits in the middle of the range in terms of features, performance and price. At the bottom of the 2018 iPhone range is the iPhone XR, which is the cheapest iPhone, then you have this phone the iPhone Xs while at the top of the range is the iPhone Xs Max.
To look at, the iPhone Xs is almost identical to the 2017 iPhone X, which Apple has now retired. It has the same front-filling AMOLED 5.8in display, the same dimensions and the very same notch at the top of the screen. Its marginally heavier but thats not noticeable.
In fact, youll only be able to tell the difference between the iPhone X and iPhone Xs if a) you look really closely at the positioning of the plastic antenna bands, which have moved or b) have the new Gold version, which looks very lovely indeed, by the way.
All the key changes to the iPhone Xs are invisible to the naked eye. Theres an improved camera, faster 4G connectivity, better battery life and quicker performance, all of which Ill go into in greater detail further down this review.
How Can I Get Cheap iPhone Deals
iPhone deals aren’t exactly notorious for their affordability, however, there are still a few ways to land a smaller price tag with Apple. The most obvious option is to go for this week’s iPhone SE deals, which, while not an older device , currently offers the best balance of price and features.
But, if you want your cheap iPhone to look, feel, and act like a flagship – things get a little bit harder. You won’t, for example, get the latest iPhone 12 handsets for cheap right now, and even the now older iPhone 11 is still carrying a premium. You may, however, get lucky on the now superseded iPhone XS, which was actually offered at AT& T for just $1 a month for Black Friday 2020.

iPhone X Review: Apple Finally Knocks It Out Of The Park
The companys most important smartphone in years does not disappoint, with Face ID and an all-screen design that spells the end of the home button
The iPhone X is Apples most important and most expensive new smartphone in four years, bringing with it a significant change to the design, dumping the home button to usher in a full-screen experience. Thankfully, Apple nailed it.
After four years of the company recycling the design of the iPhone 6, the iPhone X is a breath of fresh air. The beautiful OLED screen takes up pretty much the whole front of the device. Its one of the best displays Ive ever seen on a smartphone, and while its not quite as bezel free at the sides as Samsungs Galaxy S8 and Note 8 devices, its a giant leap forward for Apple.
Two concessions were made for the all-screen design. The most obvious is that there is no home button, axed after a decade of service. You might miss it if you have muscle memory from mashing the button every two minutes, but I dont. Theres also no Touch ID fingerprint scanner, as it has been replaced with Face ID facial recognition technology more on that later.
To get back to the home screen you swipe up from a line at the very bottom of the screen, which feels much more fluid and engaging than hitting a button. Youre meant to swipe up and hold to get to the stack of recently used apps, but I found it quicker and more reliable to use the BlackBerry OS 10-esque swipe up and right gesture.

When Can I Get My iPhone 13 Online And In Stores
The iPhone 13 hit stores last Friday, Sept. 24. You can buy the phone at your nearest Walmart, Target or other retailers to avoid shipping delays — depending on your store’s availability. Since the phone is popular, be prepared for long wait times at your local carrier. If you ordered the phone in the preorder window, the first batch of purchases should have arrived on Friday.
If You Want An Excellent Ultrawide Camera
The OnePlus 9 is the step-down model from the OnePlus 9 Pro, which is itself an excellent phone. But you dont give up too much by opting for the 9, and you save a ton of money. Like the 9 Pro, it offers great performance with a Snapdragon 888 processor, fast 65W wired charging, and something that will appeal especially to the landscape photographers out there: a great ultrawide camera.
The sensor behind the OnePlus 9s ultrawide camera is physically larger than most and offers a healthy 50-megapixel resolution. A unique lens design corrects distortion without introducing the funhouse mirror-type stretching youll often see in the corners of ultrawide images. And if super-wide photography isnt your thing, know that the main camera turns in solid image quality, too. Images are well-exposed, and colors look pleasantly vibrant. OnePlus makes a big deal of the Hasselblad color science at work here, which does a fine job but isnt as mind-blowingly good as the company suggests.
Unfortunately, you do miss out on a couple of good camera features opting for the 9 rather than the 9 Pro. The main camera on the 9 Pro offers optical image stabilization, which isnt included on the 9, and is useful for its ability to keep subjects looking sharp in lower light conditions. Theres also no telephoto lens just digital zoom, which isnt as good as the 9 Pros optical zoom.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Performance: A13 Bionic Is World’s Fastest
This is going to sound like a broken record, but Apple has the world’s fastest phone once more, thanks to its powerful A13 Bionic processor. This chip packs a CPU and GPU that are both 20% faster than last years A12, along with a neural engine for machine learning that’s also 20% faster.
I noticed this speed difference when opening apps like Asphalt 9. The iPhone 11 Pro Max took a little less than 4 seconds, compared with 8 seconds for the Galaxy Note 10 Plus. Mortal Kobat also loaded a couple of seconds faster on the iPhone 11 Pro Max.
On Geekbench 5, a relatively new benchmark that measures overall performance, the iPhone 11 Pro Max notched a single-core mark of 1,334 and a multicore score of 3,517, The Galaxy Note 10 Plus scored 736 and 2,691 respectively, while the OnePlus 7 Pro was also behind with 744 and 2,802. Last year’s iPhone XS Max scored 1,106 and 2,773.
To test graphics performance we ran GFXBench, and once again the iPhone 11 Pro Max lapped Android phones. On the Aztech Ruins High Tier off-screen test, the iPhone 11Pro Max hit 1657 frames , compared with 1,058 frames for the Galaxy Note 10.
The iPhone 11 Pro Max didn’t perform as well on 3DMark, another graphics benchmark. On the Slingshot Extreme Unlimited portion of the test, Apple’s phone notched 5,974, while the Galaxy Note 10 Plus and OnePlus 7 Pro both cleared 6,200.

Back in the day, iPhone pre-orders would go live a midnight PT / 3 a.m. ET, dooming East Coast iPhone fanatics to a bleary-eyed morning. But Apple has had mercy on us in recent years, and this time around, it’s our West Coast friends who had to set an early alarm.
iPhone 13 pre-orders started at 5 a.m. PDT / 8 a.m. ET on Friday, Sept. 17 in Australia, Canada, China, Germany, India, Japan, the UK, and the US.
Pre-orders in Turkey begin on Oct. 1 and they open in Malaysia, Mexico, South Korea, Thailand, and a few other countries on Oct. 8.

iPhone 13 Release Date And Price
The iPhone 13 series was announced on September 14 at the company’s launch event, with pre-orders opening on September 17. The iPhone 13 release date is September 24, and unlike with 2020’s iPhone 12 series you’ll be able to buy the new handsets on the same day.
The iPhone 13 starts at $799 / £779 / AU$1,349, which is the same price as the iPhone 12 in the US and Australia, and a touch cheaper in the UK. The iPhone 12 cost $799 / £799 / AU$1,349 at launch.
Youll get 128GB of storage for that price Apple has dropped its 64GB models this year, and not before time. If you need more storage, the 256GB iPhone 13 costs $899 / £879 / AU$1,519, while the 512GB model costs $1,099 / £1,079 / AU$1,869.
If those prices are a bit of a stretch, the iPhone 13 mini has similar specs but is a not-insignificant amount cheaper, starting at $699 / £679 / AU$1,199, while going in the other direction youve got the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max if youre looking for higher specs and, in the case of the latter phone, a larger screen.
iPhone 11 Pro Max Design: Downright Intimidating
The iPhone 11 Pro Max has a look from the back that says “Come at me, Android.” The three camera lenses are so large that I feel like something’s about to launch out of them. I do like the matte glass finish on the back, which is downright refreshing compared with glossy, smudge-prone phablets like the Galaxy Note 10 and Huawei P30 Pro.
I could see why the iPhone 11 Pro Max might be jealous of the regular iPhone 11. It comes in four colors to the iPhone 11’s six. And instead of fun hues like green, purple and yellow, Apple sticks with more conservative options for the iPhone 11 Pro Max that befit its pro-user status. These include the midnight-green color on our review unit . The midnight green only really shines through on the stainless-steel band and in the rings around the cameras. Space gray , silver and gold round out the options.
The iPhone 11 Pro Max looks the same from the front as the iPhone XS Max. The notch toward the top, which houses the Face ID TrueDepth camera, is still distracting but I’ve gotten used to it.
At 6.2 x 3.06 x 0.32 inches and 7.97 ounces, the iPhone 11 Pro Max continues to be a handful. It’s heavier than the 7.34-ounce iPhone XS Max and also a bit thicker. The Galaxy Note 10 Plus, which has a larger 6.8-inch screen, is a full ounce lighter at 6.9 ounces and it’s also slightly narrower and slimmer at 6.4 x 3 x 0.31 inches.

With some neat tricks up its oversized sleeves, the iPhone 11 Pro Max comes in a range of new colours and is powered by Apple’s new homebrew processor. It now features a triple camera arrangement too, with improved nighttime capabilities and slo-mo video recording on the selfie camera.
The iPhone 11 Pro Max looks set to be a decent upgrade over last year’s plus-sized phone, but it certainly isn’t cheap. Starting at a whopping £1,149 for the 64GB model, prices spiral to £1,499 for the 512GB variant.
