Hey You Got Better Battery Life Instead
5G doesn’t only cost money. In the phones we’ve tested, using the very fastest 5G technology, called millimeter wave, can chew through your phone’s battery as well, especially in hot weather.;
But longer battery life is one theme of this year’s iPhone 11 haul. The most entry-level model among them is designed to last up to an hour longer than last year’s iPhone XR, with the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max set to run up to four and five hours longer than the iPhone XS and XS Max, respectively.;
Perhaps by the time the first 5G iPhone comes along, the choice won’t be as blunt.

Does The iPhone Have 5g
No it doesn’t – not yet. The iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max are the most recent models and they do not support 5G. Nor do any previously released iPhones.
We think that will all change this year.
If you’re wondering about Apple’s tablets, none of the current iPads support 5G either. We expect the technology to come to the iPad range later than the iPhones: the latest reports suggest a 5G-ready iPad Pro will launch in 2021.

What’s The Difference Between Verizon 5g Nationwide And 5g Ultra Wideband
Verizon 5G Nationwide uses a low-band spectrum that involves Dynamic Spectrum Sharing , which allows 5G service to run simultaneously with 4G LTE on multiple spectrum bands. With DSS, if you move outside Verizon’s high-band Ultra Wideband coverage area, your 5G-enabled devices stay on 5G technology using the lower bands. By deploying both technologies together, Verizon can use its full portfolio of current spectrum resources to serve both 4G and 5G customers, maximizing your 5G experiences on the Verizon network. 5G Nationwide is available in 2,700+ cities.;Learn more about 5G Nationwide availability.
The;5G Ultra Wideband;network, meanwhile, uses the high-band, ultra-wide millimeter wave spectrum to deliver the best 5G experience available today. Its ultrafast speeds and reduced lag time can give smartphones new capabilities for multi-player gaming on the go, streaming 4K movies and video, chatting in HD and more. And with its massive bandwidth, 5G Ultra Wideband will be able to support many more devices of the future. 5G Ultra Wideband is available only in parts of select cities.;Learn more about 5G Ultra Wideband availability.

What Will The iPhone 5g Look Like
After a relatively conservative design update in autumn 2019, we expect larger changes in the iPhone line-up in 2020, along with the addition of 5G connectivity. The notch is likely to disappear, while the three-lens camera on the 2019 iPhone may be increased to four in 2020.

Should You Care About 5g
In the long term, 5G is an important upgrade. Cellular data can be much faster in dense urban areas and stadiums, for example. If millimeter wave base stations are deployed more widely, 5G could even transform your home internet connection. Speeds similar to 4G LTE should become more widespread and reliable even in less dense areas.
In the short term, most people probably arent near mmWave base stations enough to see those fast speeds. Worse yet, 5G networks need more time and may be slower than their 4G equivalents. Hopefully, the iPhone will be smart enough to use 4G LTE networks when theyre faster than 5G ones.
Apples release of a 5G iPhone is an important step. 5G is the future, and cellular carriers will start getting even more serious about it with so many iPhone users taking advantage of it.
But, at the end of 2020, is 5G a must-have? Well, not really. Not for most people.
Heres the good news: All iPhone 12 models support 5G, and they all support millimeter wave technology. If youre upgrading to a new iPhone, youre getting 5G support, and those 5G networks will get better the longer you keep your iPhone.
But, if youre happy with your iPhone and youre thinking about upgrading just for 5G, we dont recommend it. 5G still needs more time before its really valuable to most people.
Of course, if you live in a dense urban area next to mmWave-capable base stations, maybe a 5G-capable iPhone would be a worthwhile upgrade! But most people arent in that situation.
Apple’s Future 5g Plans
Apple is working on creating its own modem chips that are designed in-house, much like the Apple silicon and A-series chips, which will allow the company to reduce its reliance on modem chip vendors.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently said that Apple could transition to its own 5G modems as early as 2023. Once Apple comes out with its own modem designs, it will no longer need Qualcomm. 2023 is the “earliest” date, however, so the timeline could change.

iPhone 13 Satellite Support Rumor Disputed Likely For Additional 5g Spectrum
Over the weekend, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo sent out a research note suggesting that the iPhone 13 was “likely” to support low earth orbit satellite communication, a feature that would allow iPhone users to make calls and send messages when cellular and WiFi connections are unavailable.
In this note, Kuo said that Apple would use a “customized” Qualcomm X60 baseband chip that supports satellite communications. He also claimed that Apple would work with Qualcomm partner Globalstar on the basis that Qualcomm is implementing support for Globalstar’s n53 band in a future modem.
Almost immediately, mobile analysts and those with other expertise in mobile devices and communications began disputing Kuo’s report as inaccurate.
Globalstar is indeed a satellite company that is working with Qualcomm, but the n53 band that Kuo mentions is terrestrial spectrum. In February, Globalstar announced that Qualcomm’s next-generation X65 modem would offer global 5G n53 support in an effort to expand Globalstar’s “terrestrial spectrum commercialization.”
The n53 band is a variant of Globalstar’s terrestrial Band 53, which is already in use for 4G and 5G private networks. Nokia, for example, is using Band 53 for a private wireless network at the Port of Seattle. Globalstar is using the mid-band spectrum for partner companies that would otherwise not have access to licensed spectrum.
That timeline would see Apple launching some kind of possible satellite communication feature around 2024.

G Network Technology Is A Tangled Mess
The way smartphones tap into 5G networks — a least early on — is convoluted.
Phones need to have a 5G-capable chip and a matching 5G modem to connect to the network . And each phone model only works with a specific network’s bands, so you can’t take your 5G phone from one carrier to another.
Soon, though, new chips are coming that will combine the parts into a smaller package that could make 5G phones thinner and cheaper. And multimodal modems will mean that a single phone could potentially hop networks.

What If I Don’t Want 5g
You can still use 4G networks with the iPhone 12, and if you don’t have a 5G-ready plan you won’t be stopped from using one of Apple’s newest phones.
If you want a 4G-only iPhone 12, that isn’t an option. Instead, you may want to look at either the iPhone 11 or one of the other iPhones that the company has released in the last couple of years.
But other than a potentially higher cost there’s really no downside to opting for a 5G handset even if you’re sticking with 4G, and the iPhone 12 range has plenty of other upgrades you might appreciate, including more power, better cameras, and MagSafe support.
