The number of rings on your Android phone is controlled by your service provider and can’t be changed in your phone’s settings. However, you can often use a self-service code to set an amount of time the call will ring before transferringbetween 5 to 30 seconds. If your provider doesn’t support the self-service code, contact them to request they make the change for you. If you’re not worried about the length of time and just want to hear shorter or longer tones, you can select a different ringtone in your Settings. This wikiHow teaches you how to increase or decrease the length of time your Android rings before incoming calls are sent to voicemail.

Use The Do Not Disturb Options

The first thing to try, as explained in the introduction, is the well-known DND mode. When enabled, this option by default silences all incoming calls and notifications. However, there are certain filters you can set, in order to be notified about certain incoming calls. Sadly, this doesnt apply to notifications.

What you need to do is just add a certain contact to Favorites or create a Contacts group and fill it with contacts whose incoming calls will bypass the DND mode and youll be notified. After that, just select Favorites or a custom group in DND settings.

Heres what you need to do:

  • Open Phone.
  • Select a contact that you want to add to Favorites.
  • Now, get back to Home Screen and open Settings.
  • Select Do Not Disturb.
  • Enable Do Not Disturb and choose whether your device is going to be silenced all the time or only when the screen is locked.
  • Tap Allow Calls From.
  • Select Favorites.

Verizon lets you change all the account settings from the account manager. This is a web portal which could be logged in from any device or PC. Open the Account Manager in order to change your ring cycle.

After logging in, you will see the Voice Mail Settings on the left side of the home page. Click on it.

Now click on the telephone settings.

Now select the number of rings before the voice mail from these settings. You can choose any ring cycle between 2 to 6. I usually prefer the maximum number of rings before it gives you the ability to pick up the phone. If you are going away and know that you wont be able to attend to phone for some time, you can set the cycle to the minimum number.

Save the settings after choosing the cycle.

There is a bit of a work around you can use to increase the length of a phone call from the standard 20 seconds to the maximum 30 seconds. Just checked it out on my phone and it does work for me.

Here are the instructions for that process:

In the example above the ring time is set to 30 seconds. Press the Call button.

Option 1: Contact Your Service Provider

I have AT&T and I know that I can call or go into a local branch and have them do this for me. However, I have had nightmares calling customer service and I never want to do that again. Nevertheless, allowing someone to do it for you, means you cant mess it up. All other major carriers should all be able to help with your voicemail settings with a call or visit to a store.

    Using A Different Ringtone

  • 1Open your Android’s Settings . To do this, swipe down from the top of the home screen, and then tap the gear icon at the top-right corner.
  • Although there’s no setting on your Android that changes the number of rings specifically, you can select a longer or shorter ringtone so you hear more or less sound.

  • 3Tap Ringtone or Phone ringtone. One of these two options will be in the menu.
  • 4Tap a ringtone to hear a preview. Ringtone options and lengths vary by model. Some ringtones play a tune rather than a shorter sound, meaning that longer ringtones would result in fewer rings.

Change The Number Of Repeated Message Alerts On Your iPhone

How to change how long my phone rings before going to voicemail | Tech tips | Vodafone UK

By Rob LeFebvre 12:00 pm, January 15, 2013

One of the wacky things you may notice if youve just gotten a new iPhone is the default double alert whenever you get a text message, whether iMessage or SMS. Why Apple has this as the default, Im not sure, but it kept freaking me out before I figured out how to turn it off.

However, Im willing to see that you might want the double alert, or more , and theres a simple way to make that happen, as well.

    Heres how.

Launch your Settings app, and tap on Notifications. Tap on Messages, then scroll down to where it says, Repeat Alert. Tap there to open the preference pane.

Here, you can tap on Never, Once, Twice, 3 Times, 5 Times, or 10 Times. Note that if you tap on Once, youll get the original alert for the text message, and then one Repeat alert. If you tap on Twice, youll get the original alert, and then two repeat alerts. And so on.

Personally, I leave this set to Never, since I always think the repeated alert is another text message coming in and it adds to my stress level. However, if you need to be reminded more than once, have at it!

How To Make Certain Contacts Ring On Silent iPhone

The fact is that we are easily distracted and often overwhelmed by constant notifications and calls. Using Do not disturb is more than recommended. But, what happens if you want to wind up a bit and switch to Silent Mode but still need to make certain contacts ring on your iPhone.

There are two ways to get the thing working, but one only applies to calls while notifications wont come through. If you want only calls to come through, DND; is where you should look at. If, on the other hand, you want to be notified whenever a certain contact sends a message or calls, theres a tweak in Contacts Ringtone settings you should be looking into. Today, well explain both.

    Set Number Of Audible Rings

I’ve found articles on setting the number of rings before my phone goes to voicemail, but I want something different:

I want something in between “silent” and “ringing out loud the default number times “.

I want the phone to ring out loud once or twice, and then continue to “ring” silently — ie, I would still have time to get to my phone before it went to voicemail.

The problem is that 7 rings is almost never needed, since I hear the phone on the first or second ring — the remaining rings are just an insistent audio annoyance.

    • 2How about making a ringtone 40s long but silent after 5s? On phone so will make into an answer later.;TetsujinAug 28 ’18 at 8:58
    • In case you dont know this already: if you press the sleep button while the phone is ringing it silences it like you want. However, it seems Nimesh is right that there is no setting to automate this.Aug 28 ’18 at 23:11

Make a ringtone 40 seconds long, but containing only silence after the first 5 seconds or so.

Digital Trends have a full tutorial, though it’s using an existing tune from iTunes. They also say maximum ringtone length is 30s. I always thought it was 40, so you might need to experiment.

You could quite easily do this in something like Audacity. Copy in 5s of audio but save a file 30s long. I’m not sure whether it can save AAC, but if not, save as WAV then use something like XLD to convert to AAC . Manually change the extension to m4r & you have a ringtone.
