This isn’t shocking; it’s a problem we saw during the initial transition to 4G ten years ago and a problem Android phones have contended with as they moved to 5G over the last couple of years. The answer for most Android manufacturers has been to simply throw in larger batteries, but Apple chose not to go that route.
Before you dismiss this as possibly a minor drop in battery life, based on the testing of our sister site Tom’s Guide, it can cost you two hours or more. The iPhone 12 Pro saw a 2 hour and 18-minute drop when using 5G vs. 4G and the iPhone 12 saw a 1 hour and 58-minute drop on 5G vs. 4G .

Apple also updated the cameras. The regular wide-angle, the zoom and the ultra-wide-angle lenses on the back now allow in more light, which means they’re better at taking pictures in the dark.

Apple will try and fix battery drain and reduced performance issues, which have been reported by some iPhone 11 series users. Apples iOS 14.5 update will bring a new recalibration of battery health reporting system on the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, as first reported by MacRumors. An Apple support page has also gone up discussing the issue further.
Currently, on iPhones users can check the health state of their battery, which shows the batterys maximum capacity and peak performance capability. As lithium-ion batteries degrade over time, their performance also falls, and eventually it starts impacting how the iPhones performance as well.
The support page notes that with iOS 14.5 it will try and fix some inaccurate estimates of battery health, which were being seen by iPhone 11 series users. The bug also caused unexpected battery drain behaviour or, in a small number of instances, reduced peak performance capability, according to the page.

How To Check The Battery Status Of Your iPhone
On any iPhone with iOS 11.3 or later installed, you can find your battery capacity by going to Settings > Battery > Battery Health. Its important to note that this feature is only available for the iPhone 6 and any models that came after it.In your Battery Health screen, youll also see an important secondary metric: Peak Performance Capability. Because of the above-mentioned nuance, this screen might actually be more important than capacity.If your battery runs optimally to support all of your apps, you will see a simple message that your phone is operating at normal peak performance. Throughout the 10 day review period the iPhone 11 Pro has impressed me with its battery life. Of the three new Apple 2019 phones its still the one youll have to charge the most and it has the smallest cell, but its still a massive improvement over the previous two 5.8-inch iPhones.
Apple has claimed you should see a four hour increase in battery life when comparing to the iPhone XS. While its virtually impossible to recreate the situaton this was achieved, it does feel like a generally accurate way of describing the increase. If you struggled to get through the day with the XS youre going to have more luck here.

If you’re on the fence about which iPhone to buy, these are some notable differences between Apple’s different models. The biggest? All four iPhone 12 models will feature Super Retina XDR OLED displays like the iPhone 11 Pro, while the iPhone 11 offered an LCD screen. iPhone 11 Review: Design
The iPhone 11’s design is a mix of familiar and fresh. The front and sides are pretty much samesies with the iPhone XR, complete with the notch at the top, aluminum band and somewhat chunky bezels .
The telltale sign that you have the new iPhone is the oversized dual cameras on the back, housed in a matte glass square. The lenses kind of remind me of robot eyes. The rest of the glass has a glossy finish, so this camera patch provides an interesting bit of contrast.
I like the colors for the iPhone 11, which have a more restrained vibe than the Technicolor rainbow that made up the iPhone XR lineup. The more muted hues include a mint green, a pale yellow and a light lavender purple. You can also pick from back, white and Product Red.
The biggest design change on the iPhone 11 is what you don’t see. Apple claims that this phone has the toughest glass front and back of any smartphone, thanks to a dual-ion exchange process. Some iPhone 11 owners have complained about easily scratched displays, although we have not noticed any scratches on our review unit. Still, you may want to invest in an iPhone 11 screen protector or iPhone 11 case.
This device also has IP68-rated water resistance, which means that it can withstand 2 meters of water for 30 minutes, and is one of the best waterproof phones out there. The iPhone XR could do only 1 meter. The iPhone 11 Pro ups that to 4 meters, but that’s hardly a reason to spend extra dough.
iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 11 Pro Which One Should You Buy
Both of Apples 2019 flagships are excellent phones and a good step forward from what we saw in 2018. Whichever one you choose youll be getting a phone we can easily recommend.
We would say, for most people, the iPhone 11 is the better mix of functionality and price. It takes just as good pictures as the Pro, is just as fast and is available in more colours but, most importantly, its a lot cheaper.
However, the iPhone 11 Pro is technically the better phone thanks to a nicer display , an extra rear camera and the option of fantastic battery life if you go for the Max model. Of course, youll have to pay more for the pleasure.
