Vs 2017 iPhone Battery Life: Similar Expectations

How long will iPhone X Last?

Perhaps the biggest news with our battery tests is that — it’s not much news at all. While iPhones post huge gains in speed and performance year over year, their battery life tends to be largely unchanged. In fact, the 2017 iPhones actually have smaller batteries than their 2016 counterparts , albeit with the exact same battery life expectations because of the newer models’ more efficient chips.

Indeed, Apple never claimed marathon battery life for the iPhone X, either. Its published battery specifications are equal to that of the iPhone 8 on internet use and wireless video playback , while the 8 Plus is rated for an hour more on each task. Meanwhile, the X and 8 Plus rank considerably higher than the 8 on talk time and wireless audio playback .

Average battery life: About 10 to 17 hours for all phones.

The iPhone X, out in 2017, contained a 2716 mAh battery that Apple claimed would allow the phone to last two hours longer than the 7. Trusted Reviews found this to be true, praising the fact that the phone wonât hit âredâ before the workday ends after regular use. Tech Radar managed to run the phone down after 12 hours of heavy use, concluding that while the iPhone Xâs battery life âisnât mind-blowing, itâs certainly better than some iPhones of old â itâs more than acceptable.â Tomâs Guide found significantly less impressive results from their rigorous testing, with the Xâs battery lasting just short of 10 hours.

The XS Max fared no better with its larger, 3174 mAh battery lasting only 10 hours and 38 minutes. However, Trusted Reviews kept the XS Max lasting throughout the day after normal, heavy usage, and Tech Radar had a similar conclusion, stating that the phone lasted on a single, full charge from 7 a.m. to midnight with moderate to heavy use.

2018âs iPhone XR impressed Tech Radar, who declared this model to have âthe best battery life of any phone from .â Coming into the X series with a 2942 mAh battery, smaller than the XS, the phoneâs energy efficiency kept it from burning too much battery life all at once. Tech Radar managed to keep an iPhone XR going from 5:30 a.m/ to 11:00 p.m. with still some charge left to spare.

I’d Still Like The iPhone Battery To Be Better

Maybe next year, Apple will make a leap forward in iPhone battery life. It didn’t happen in 2017. Instead, we got a lot of other great things: big leaps in speed, and in the case of the X, an improved design and groundbreaking Face ID system.

This year’s iPhones are great — but I’d love to stop worrying about my battery life.

For Ios 113 And Later

iOS 11.3 Battery Life Compared To iOS 11.2.6 In Video ...

iOS 11.3 and later improve this performance management feature by periodically assessing the level of performance management necessary to avoid unexpected shutdowns. If the battery health is able to support the observed peak power requirements, the amount of performance management will be lowered. If an unexpected shutdown occurs again, then performance management will increase. This assessment is ongoing, allowing more adaptive performance management.

iPhone 8 and later use a more advanced hardware and software design that provides a more accurate estimation of both power needs and the batterys power capability to maximize overall system performance. This allows a different performance management system that more precisely allows iOS to anticipate and avoid an unexpected shutdown. As a result, the impacts of performance management may be less noticeable on iPhone 8 and later. Over time, the rechargeable batteries in all iPhone models will diminish in their capacity and peak performance and will eventually need to be replaced.

Place Your iPhone Face Down

When your iPhone is facing up, the screen illuminates whenever you receive a notification. If you receive a lot of notifications, they could easily be part of your battery problem, especially since notifications in iOS 14 are rich, meaning you can see conversations, images, and more directly from the Lock screen. Doing so might mean youre actually on your iPhone more by virtue of being able to do so much without unlocking the device. Stop yourself from being tempted to reply each time a notification appears by leaving your iPhone face down on your desk or side table. Doing this will preserve battery life since your iPhone wont light up when you receive a notification.

iPhone 8 And iPhone 8 Plus

Average battery life: About 13 hours for both phones.

In 2017, Apple released the iPhone 8 with a 1821 mAh battery, noticeably smaller than the iPhone 7âs and bad news for anyone who wasnât impressed by that phoneâs battery life. Tech Radar noted that the iPhone 8âs battery life only lasted about 13 hours of regular use, and Trusted Reviews received a similar result during its tests, only getting an iPhone 8 to live through the day by constantly changing settings and adjusting the screen brightness.

The iPhone 8 Plus also had a smaller battery than the 7 Plus, with a capacity of 2675 mAh. Trusted Reviews did not see the battery life on this model change much from either the 7 Plus or the 8, but noted the 8 Plus did not require constant adjustments to last the day.

The answer to this question can be a little tricky thanks to Apple policies. Youve probably seen several electronics repair stores in your area that offer iPhone repair. Unfortunately, many of these places arent Apple Certified and therefore, you arent going to get original Apple parts. Youre more than welcome to take your phone to one of these places just keep in mind, the battery and the way your phone interacts with that battery will never be the same as the original.

With that word of caution, we recommend that you call Apple before taking your iPhone X for a battery repair to a third-party shop. Apple often offers the battery replacement and a lower cost and your phone could still have a warranty. As we saw with the iPhone 6, Apple offered battery replacements at no charge for a time because of hardware issues.

You can contact Apple to find a retail store or an authorized repair center near you. At the time of writing, an iPhone X battery replacement is $69 with no warranty. It isnt a bad deal for factory parts and installation provided by certified technicians. Just keep in mind before driving all the way to an Apple Store if your phone has third-party parts, they will know and they wont work on it.

How iPhone Batteries Perform Based On Individual Models

How long does the battery last on iphone 6s plus ...

When researching used iPhones, battery life and performance are probably among your top considerations. You can look at factors like the processing speed or RAM, but how much does that really tell you about the phones actual user experience?Fortunately, other metrics exist as well. One is Geebenchs Performance benchmark, which standardises all iOS devices to compare their performance directly against each other. The results, from highest to lowest performance, are as follows:

    • iPhone 11 Pro Max 1,330
    • iPhone 11 1,280
    • iPhone 6S 542
    • iPhone 6 308

Battery life is another important component when comparing iPhone models. The review specialists at AnandTech reviewed the battery life of each iPhone model from the last few years. They based their comparison on the amount of time a phone would be able to leverage a full charge when on WiFi. Their results are below:

    • iPhone 11 Pro Max 15.58 hours
    • iPhone 11 14.03 hours
    • iPhone 8 Plus 11.83 hours
    • iPhone XS Max 10.31 hours
    • iPhone 7 9.22 hours

The trends for both performance and battery life tend to be linear. Each new model tends to be more powerful than those that came before it and comes with new features that preserve and extend its battery life. The bottom line is that newer models, regardless of whether their capacity is below 100%, tend to have longer battery life than their older counterparts and will be useful for longer as a result.

then your phone is being throttled and would benefit from a battery replacement.

    See Which Apps Are Running

If your phone has reached 500 or more charging cycles, according to Apple, the device is designed to maintain 80 percent of its original capacity. In this instance, it is recommended to properly shut down unnecessary apps that consume large sums of power.

If you have applications like Facebook, SnapChat, Line or your email open, this could cause major stress on your battery and lead to the battery dying faster than usual. In order to force close apps using your iPhone X – swipe up from the bottom of your screen and leave your finger on the screen .

This activates multitasking mode. After this, a red circle will appear in the top left-hand corner, which you can press to force close any and all running apps.

A common question I get from people who’ve bought a new iPhone is “how long will it last?” For some, it’s a signal of how massive an investment the device represented, while for others it’s a sign that they are planning for the future.

Either way, it’s also a signal that people are aware that tech gadgets don’t last forever.

So how long will your new iPhone last?

If you don’t break or lose your iPhone, the most likely way it will die is that the battery will go bad. And how long the battery takes to wear to the point where it has a dramatic effect on battery life depends on which iPhone you’ve bought and how much you use your new iPhone.

Before I go any further, a quick lesson on lithium ion batteries.

Batteries are a consumable item. They wear out over time. Get used to this.

Standard alkaline batteries has a lifespan of one charge cycle — it arrives charged, and you use it once. Rechargeable batteries also have a lifespan. According to Apple, the iPhone battery “is designed to retain up to 80 percent of its original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles.”

But what is a charge cycle? It’s not, as you might initially think, the number of times you charge up your device up. It’s more complicated than that. Apple explains it as follows:

    Charge cycles

Its a tale as old as time. Apple releases a new iOS update and, before long, people notice that battery life on their iPhone is discernably worse. And with the recent release of iOS 15, that very scenario is playing out again. But rest assured, theres no reason to worry just yet.

Battery life with iOS 15 is likely being impacted by a few things. For starters, its possible, if not downright probable, that the first incarnation of iOS 15 has a few bugs and performance glitches Apple needs to address. Second, Apples penchant for rolling out iOS updates that can run on older phones may also be part of the problem.

iPhone X Battery Life How Does It Compare To The iPhone 8 Series

During my time with the iPhone X, Ive found that it sits between the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in terms of endurance. It hasnt quite matched the two days I can get with the 8 Plus, but it can comfortably get through the day without a worry.

Considering Apple seemed coy about the battery life when it introduced the X, only saying it will deliver two more hours than than the old iPhone 7, Ive been thoroughly impressed with it. Its nice to see Apple finally make a small phone that doesnt hit the red following only a day at work something that has constantly annoyed about more recent iPhone models.

The iPhone X still uses the Lightning port

The iPhone X joins the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus as the first Apple phones to support wireless charging. For Android users this is nothing new, but its still a really handy addition. The iPhone uses the open Qi charging standard and that means the X can be powered up via a host of pads not just one made by Apple. Wireless charging maxes out at 7.5W fast wireless charging, which is less powerful than the Samsung Galaxy S10.
