Go to Settings>Messages>Receive At>Caller ID. Choose your phone number rather than your email address.

Had same problem the only way I found was to turn off iMessage.

That depends on who you are sending it to.

I am sending them to mobile contact numbers in my phone and not email addresses.

Go to Settings>Messages>Receive At>Caller ID. Choose your phone number rather than your email address.

Had same problem the only way I found was to turn off iMessage.

I did turn off iMessage and it fixed the problem!!!

The Caller ID setting is only visible if you have more than one thing listed in Receive At. I’m not sure what problem you are trying to solve, but if you enable iMessage and it is verified you will see both your number and the email address associated with your Apple ID listed in Receive At, and the Caller ID setting will be visible so you can choose which one you want to use to identify your outgoing messages.

My phone won’t let me select my phone number. I just turned iMessage off — I’m guessing that’s where the problem began.

This was driving me crazy but I’ve cracked it!!

Hip hip hooray. I can relax at last.

Lets turn this idea around and share with you a great money-saving tip. Did you know you can also send text messages from your email? Thats right: Most major cellular providers let you send text messages via your email inbox.

First, you need to use an SMS to email gateway address. Thats easy to do. You can just substitute your cell phone number with a specific number from your carrier.

Luckily, 20SomethingFinance put together a comprehensive list of carrier numbers you can use to send text messages through your email account. Tap or click here to find the number for your provider.

Theres just one problem with this: spam. It can quickly get out of hand when people use the SMS gateway services to send texts.

Its an enormous problem. In fact, Tatango research found that 68% of survey respondents say theyve received text message spam.

If you have trouble recognizing spammy texts, the Federal Trade Commission has you covered. Heres how to spot and report spam when you see it clogging up your text messages.

Turn Off Imessage On Your Old iPhone Or iPad

The first way to fix this problem is to turn off iMessage on your old iPhone.

If you recently got a new iPhone and you used FaceTime and iMessages on this phone, you need to turn it off because 2 numbers cant use iMessage at once, therefore, your new iPhone is going to send the messages from your email while your old iPhone is going to send the messages from your number.

If you dont have access to your old iPhone, you need to wipe the device from iCloud so you can send messages on your new number.

If you do have your old iPhone:

  • Go to the Settings app
  • Tap on iMessages and toggle it off
  • Click on Send & Receive
  • Go to the Start New Conversations From and tap on your email
  • On your new iPhone:

  • Go to the Settings app
  • Tap on iMessages at the bottom
  • Toggle iMessage on
  • Go to the Start New Conversations From and tap on your number
  • After youve followed all of these steps, you should be able to stop your new messages from sending to from your email and they should now be sending from your number.

If this didnt work, try the next step.

How To Send Text Messages To Email

Back when I started this blog , I highlighted a tip that allows you to send text messages from email for free. At the time, this was a money saver, with how people used their phones texting wasnt cheap and you could send an email from a desktop and save the mobile text message fee.

It was a nice little money saving tip at the time, but the way people use their phones today is now completely different, so its not quite as relevant. People may be sending text messages via email, but they are doing it from their mobile phones, if at all. And text messages today are cheap. Many of the cheapest data plans come with unlimited text messages built in to the plan.

However, data is not cheap . And with free text messaging, one might find it beneficial to do the reverse today send text messages to email.

Learning how to send text messages to email can come in handy in a number of scenarios:

    • you want to save money on data by not accessing your web browser
    • you want to send yourself a notification or reminder
    • you know someones email but do not know their phone number
    • the recipient does not have a mobile phone but does have email
    • the recipient checks their email much more frequently than text messages
    • its not an urgent message

    Can’t Send A Group Imessage

    Why Won

If you’re having trouble sending messages to groups of people, one reason could be that one of your contacts no longer has an iPhone.

When you send a group message in iMessage all your contacts will show up as blue, until you add someone who doesn’t have iMessage, then they will all turn green as the iMessage group will not be supported.

If you had a group iMessage and one of your contacts stopped using their iPhone this would break the group iMessage. To find out if this is the case, start a new group message rather than continuing with the old one.

It’s also possible that you can’t send a group message to an existing thread because you left the conversation.

    The fix

If you think you’ve shut yourself out of a group message, as we described above, you will need to do the following:

  • Open the Messages app and tap the group message you’re trying to reply to.
  • If you’ve left the conversation a message will tell you so.
  • You can’t unilaterally rejoin a conversation: you’ll need to have one of the remaining participants add you again.
  • Alternatively, you could just start a new conversation with all the same participants and go from there.
  • What if you are intent on group messaging your friends and not all of them have iPhones? In that case, your best option is to use Whatsapp. We have this tutorial about using Whatsapp here.
