Jiggle Mode And Editing Pages

Look, Im calling it jiggle mode. Apple SVP of software engineering Craig Federighi called it jiggle mode in Mondays keynote, so its canon now.

Whats interesting here is that you can get into jiggle mode in so many different ways. A long press on any icon includes an Edit Home Screen button, but you can also long press on a black space on the home screen for the first time. Thats been a feature on Android for ages. Its one of those things thats a little undiscoverable but wildly useful.

I bring up jiggle mode because theres another undiscoverable but wildly useful feature hidden in there: Edit Pages. If you tap on the navigation dots above your dock, you get a fly-out view of all the pages on your various home screens again, just like you can do on many Android phones.

But Apple added something new and unexpected here: checkboxes. You can hit a checkbox to turn a page off without deleting everything thats on it. It seems like a weird feature until you realize you can use it to customize your phone for different contexts. You could have a page set up for work, but when its time for the weekend you could uncheck them and hide all those apps in exchange for a weekend page.

Its really well done and something I havent seen executed to this degree of simplicity anywhere else.

Handoff And Continuity Tips

Enabling Handoff between iOS devices: Go to General > AirPlay & Handoff and then toggle the Handoff box.

Accessing Handoff apps: On the Lock Screen press the app icon in the bottom left corner.

Allowing SMS messages on your Mac: To do this you need to enable the feature on your iPhone. Make sure you are running iOS 8.1 or later and then go to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding. Find your Mac or iPad you want to allow access and pair the two devices with a security code. You’ll now be able to see and send Text messages via the desktop.

Recently Used Apps Section

The Dock reserves space for recently accessed or suggested apps they appear on the right on the other side of the horizontal divide.

As you open new apps, you’ll notice that their icons appear in that section of the Dock, replacing one of the older icons. This section can hold as many as three icons, including those available for Apple Handoff, though the permanent fixtures in the Dock can eventually start squeezing them out, depending on how many you have.

This Gray Bar Blocking My Text Box Is Driving Me Insane It Still Comes Up Even After I Turn Off Predictive Text

[Question] How can I remove this gray bar that appears ...

Anyone have any idea how to fix this? I have an attached keyboard case and whenever I try to use it, this gray bar just comes up and blocks the area where I am meant to see what it is that I am typing.

To disable the bar completely, not just the predictive text suggestions, toggle “Shortcuts” in Settings > General > Keyboard. When it is disabled, the grey bar will not appear .

  • Unfortunately this also disables any password managers used too not a very good user experience. Its the card/location entry bar that blocks content, not the Shortcuts bar .

That bar is part of the QuickType predictive keyboard feature on iOS. To turn the feature off, go to Settings > General > Keyboards, scroll to the bottom, and turn Predictive off.

  • 1This doesn’t solve the whole problemas the answer from Timothy points out, the Shortcuts option must also be disabled.

Considering both devices were Apples biggest smartphone hits, that means there are potentially thousands of consumers who will be experiencing this problem.

iPhone 12 Tutorial: How To Remove Bottom Home Bar From Apps!

    By, Contributor| 11 Sep 20

Since the introduction of the iPhone X back in November 2017, iOS has had two flavours: one with a Home button interface and one without. The latter makes extended use of swipes and gestures, allowing the iPhone X, XS, XS Max, XR, 11, 11 Pro and, presumably, the highly anticipated iPhone 12 to forgo the physical Home button and increase the display size to cover nearly the entire front of the device.

One issue that this new approach has brought with it is that the Home bar is nearly always visible. While this is fine when you’re navigating your way around the interface, it can be maddening when playing games or using certain apps.

So how can you hide the Home bar on an iPhone or iPad? We investigate.

    Conduct Physical Data Extraction

After installing the jailbreak, the data extraction procedure is quite straightforward. Using the iOS Forensic Toolkit, you can create an image of the devices file system, as well as extract and decrypt the Keychain, which contains the users passwords.

    • Make sure the iPhone is in flight mode and the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth switches are off.
    • Make sure Wi-Fi is turned off on your computer as well. An unobvious but important step that is often overlooked is turning off the Wi-Fi network on the computer to which the iPhone is connected. If you forget to turn off Wi-Fi on your computer, and other iOS devices are registered on your network, using the iOS Forensic Toolkit may result in an error: the connection may not be established with the connected device, but with one of those present on the network.
    • Unlock your iPhone and make sure its screen is unlocked. Attention: do not remove the device lock code!
    • Make sure your iPhone is connected to your computer a trusted connection has been established .
    • Launch iOS Forensic Toolkit.
    • Use the isable screen lock command in order to exclude the possibility of spontaneous shutdown while the iOS Forensic Toolkit is running, the device screen must be turned on and unlocked. Otherwise, iOS will block access to some parts of the system.
    • Remove the keychain eychain.
    • Extract the file system image of the device ile system.

Return to the Guided Access page and enable the Accessibility Shortcut toggle switch.

With all of these settings in place, you’re ready to banish the Home bar while using an app. Open the app in question and click the side/power button three times.

You may find that you’re pushed straight into Guide Access mode, with a brief notification but no need to select further options.

In Guided Access, you’ll notice, the Home bar indicator isn’t visible, because this mode prevent you from leaving the app and returning to the Home screen. Mission accomplished!

In some cases, you’ll face the very slight complication that when you do the triple-click, a Guided Access window will appear around the edges of the screen, with several options. You simply need to tap Start to enter Guided Access mode, in which the Home bar is disabled.

Obviously this is great while you’re playing the game or reading your ebook or whatever app it is you’re in, but getting back to the Home page is also important, so to do this, simply press the power button three times and you should see the message that Guided Access has now been disabled.

That’s it. Not a perfect solution, but one you can now use whenever you’re in an app just by pressing the power button three times to begin and twice to end. After a while it will seem like second nature, and it will have to do until Apple gives us the chance to do it all from the Settings menu. Let’s just hope that it doesn’t take the company too long.

    Take Lowlight Selfies And Portraits

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro support new low-light selfies. That means your face will appear brighter even if it’s dark out, and there’s no need to turn on the flash. There’s no need to turn it on or set it up, your iPhone just automatically detects if it’s dark out and turns on night mode to make the selfie clearer. But it’s fun to play with. I recommend propping your iPhone up to make sure the picture is clear, since it can get blurry if you move while it’s taking a photo.

If you own the iPhone 12 Pro, try new low-light portrait pictures, which isn’t supported on the regular iPhone 12. This lets you take the kind of professional-looking pictures with a subject in focus and the background blurred at night. It works pretty well.

iPhone 6 – Grey Bar issue fix SOLUTION

The iPhone does not have a setting you can enable or disable to control the display of the bottom bar. Developers can write code that auto-hides the bar on some apps. But iOS has the final say.

Until Apple introduces this setting in a future update, use Guided Access in Accessibility Settings as a quick hack to remove the grey home bar.

It has one limitation: Guided Access works only in one app at a time. You’ll have to trigger Guided Access for each app you open.

How To Remove The Grey Bottom Bar In iPad Simulator

I have tried to reset the simulator, to change the keyboard input settings, to rotate the simulator, but it did not change anything.

The grey bar covers my ui so that the simulator is not usable.

XCode version: 7.1 Simulator version: 9.1

To hide this bar you need to go into the Settings.app within the simulator , then General-> Keyboard, and turn off the ‘Shortcuts’ toggle.

I have this issue in my app constantly, and cannot for the life of me figure out why the bar is showing in the first place. The firstResponder idea mentioned by James seems like a sensible place to start looking, but bizarrely this is appearing on every screen, no matter if it has a text field in it or not. Perhaps it is an Apple bug after all.

Handy hint… if you are looking for a way to set the Shortcuts keyboard option from the command line , the following command does the trick:

    find ~/Library/Developer/CoreSimulator/Devices -path */data/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preferences.plist | xargs -n 1 -I defaults write “” KeyboardAssistant -bool NO

    • 1just for future searchers like me who are slow on the uptake: the “simulator Settings app” is the setting app within the simulated iOS device itself, not a settings for the OSX simulator app. orion elenzilJun 1 ’16 at 19:31
