iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 8 Performance

How Big Is iPhone 8 Compared To The 12 – Should You Upgrade?

In its day, the A11 Bionic processor inside the iPhone 8 set the pace for other smartphones. But that day is in the rear view mirror. Apple has had two years to improve its processor designs, and you can see the benefits with the A13 Bionic chipset inside the iPhone 11 .

We’ll float just one number to give you a sense of the iPhone 11’s superior performance. On Geekbench 5, which measures overall performance, the iPhone 11 turned in a single-core score of 1,333 and a multicore mark of 3,251. In comparison, the iPhone 8 Plus’s numbers were 925 and 2,460, respectively.

That doesn’t mean you’ll get degraded performance with the iPhone 8 models just that they won’t be as fast as a phone that came out two years later. The iPhone 8 is still capable of doing many of the things you can do with the iPhone 11, as the iOS 13 software update works on both the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.

iPhone 8 Vs iPhone 8 Plus Summary

Both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus follow the same format as their predecessors. Featuring a larger screen, more advanced camera, the iPhone 8 Plus will likely be a better choice for phablet fans and people who care about camera tech, but with pricing starting at $799, its $100 more expensive than the basic iPhone 8.

With the added allure of the even more swanky iPhone X further complicating things, this could make the basic iPhone 8 the default choice for most buyers where budget is a concern, though we wont know this until weve had a chance to test all the new iPhones.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 8 Battery Life

In recent years, Apple has spent a lot of time focusing on the batteries inside its phones. Those efforts bear fruit in terms of longevity: The iPhone 11 lasted 11 hours, 16 minutes on our Tom’s Guide battery test, which involves continuous surfing over T-Mobile’s LTE network until the phone runs out of power. That result isn’t the best we’ve seen from an iPhone take a bow, iPhone 11 Pro Max but it’s still close to being among the longest-lasting smartphones we’ve tested.

As good as the iPhone 11’s result is, though, you can expect similar longevity from the iPhone 8 Plus, which also held out for 11:16. The iPhone 8 fares less well, at 9:54. That was an average result for smartphones back in 2017, but these days, smartphones last a little bit longer on average.

One thing that hasn’t changed in the time between when Apple released the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 11 is fast-charging support. Both phones have it, so you can get up to a 50% charge after half-an-hour with an 18-watt charger. The trouble is, you’ve got to buy that charger separately, as Apple doesn’t include it with either the iPhone 11 or iPhone 8.

iPhone X Vs iPhone 8 Plus Display

Both of these phones have big screens, especially compared to the 4.7-inch iPhone 8, but the iPhone X has the larger display at 5.8 inches. It has a 1,125 x 2,436 resolution, giving it a pixel density of 458 pixels per inch.

The iPhone 8 Plus on the other hand has a 5.5-inch 1,080 x 1,920 screen with a pixel density of 401 pixels per inch, so the iPhone Xs is higher resolution and sharper.

They also use different display technologies. The iPhone X uses AMOLED, which allows for blacker blacks than the LCD iPhone 8 Plus, as the pixels are lit up individually, meaning they can also be completely turned off, resulting in deeper blacks.

As such contrast should be better on the iPhone X, and colors are generally richer. And the iPhone X is the first iPhone to display HDR video content.

Not everything is different though, as both the iPhone X and the iPhone 8 Plus benefit from True Tone screens. Thats a technology inherited from the iPad Pro range, which automatically adjusts the white balance of your display based on your environment.

iPhone 8 Plus Unboxing: Too Big for Its Own Good, Glass ...

It’s another knock-out for the iPhone 11 here. Its Apple A13 processor is hugely improved over the A11 processor in the iPhone 8 Plus. Which isn’t to say the 8 Plus feels like using a stuttery old laptop it’s still a very capable device that runs the latest version of iOS and can handle creative apps. But the iPhone 11 is smoother and faster, and is more future-proofed for iOS upgrades and new apps coming down the line.

iPhone 8 Review: Verdict

The iPhone 8 is an excellent smartphone. The battery life is decent, the camera improved, and the addition of wireless charging adds convenience.

We like the glass-backed design as well, and, thanks to the small screen it’s one of the most ergonomic phones we’ve ever used.

There’s one X-shaped problem.

The iPhone 8 is overshadowed by the more exciting, more expensive brother, and if you’re looking for the latest, greatest iPhone ever released, you’re going to want the iPhone X.

iPhone X Vs iPhone 8 Plus Biometric Security

While Apples on-stage Face ID fumbles might not have been the introduction to the companys facial recognition technology it had been hoping for, the tech still holds a lot of promise and is one of the biggest differences between the iPhone X and the iPhone 8 Plus.

Because while the iPhone X has Face ID, letting you unlock your phone just by looking at it, the iPhone 8 Plus doesnt, instead relying on a Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

But in the process of removing the bezel from the iPhone X Apple also removed Touch ID, so you can have one biometric option or the other, but not both.

iPhone 12 Vs iPhone 8 Display

The iPhone 8 is a relic of the days when Apple used LCD panels for its smartphone displays. That began to change with the iPhone X’s introduction that same year, and today, the entire lineup of flagship iPhones features OLED screens. That includes the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini, both of which sport Apple’s Super Retina XDR display.

The switch from LCD to OLED means sharper colors and truer blacks on the iPhone 12. The contrast ratio is 2 million:1 on the iPhone 12 versus 1,300:1 on the iPhone 8. The iPhone 12 displays 114.5% of the sRGB color spectrum, about what the iPhone 8 captured the iPhone 12 mini checks in at 117.8%. The iPhone 12 renders colors much accurately than the iPhone 8 with a Delta-E rating of 0.29 versus 0.89. The iPhone 8 Plus’ display is slightly more accurate, though, going by its 0.25 Delta-E rating.

How Big Is The iPhone 11

And here are the exact dimensions for Apples iPhone 8 Plus:

  • iPhone 11 Size & Height: 150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3 mm 194 grams

As can see from the above stats, the iPhone 8 Plus is not only longer and wider but also thicker and heavier than the iPhone 11. This is surprising to some because the iPhone 11 actually has a larger display than the iPhone 8 Plus .

iPhone 8 Review: Design

The iPhone 8 measures 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm. That’s fractionally larger than the iPhone 7, but it should still fit inside an iPhone 7 case. It carries over the 4.7-inch screen .

The size makes it a pleasure to hold and use one-handed, which could be the killer reason to buy the iPhone 8 over anything else.

Clearly, you don’t get the bezel-less displays that the Samsung Galaxy S8 and iPhone X offer. That makes the iPhone 8 feel a bit more dated than its competitors that were launched around the same time.

As we’ve already mentioned, the iPhone 8’s design isn’t a massive departure from the iPhone 6 and 7 aesthetic. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, they’re great-looking phones.

The aluminium unibody design has been replaced by a glass back . This allows for wireless charging and should improve the wireless performance .

The glass back feels great, although, not quite as premium as the almost-ceramic metal case.

It has a grippy coating that makes it feel more secure in your hands compared to other glass-backed phones. This is also helped by the extra weight, 148g vs 138g of the iPhone 7.

We reviewed the white and silver model, which doesn’t show any fingerprints, and we’ve also been using it without a case and haven’t noticed any scratches yet.

The camera lens still protrudes from the rear casing.

Just like the iPhone 7 there’s no headphone port. It’s time to jump onboard the wireless bandwagon.

Display Is The iPhone 8 Worth Your Money In 2021

Here are the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus

It is the first thing to notice if you put an iPhone 8 alongside other phones released this year. As you know, the iPhone 8 has a huge forehead and chin for a phone sold in 2021. In fact, the screen-to-body ratio of the iPhone 8 is only 65.6%, and iPhone 8 plus is 67.7% which is nowhere close to 82.9% of the iPhone X or 87.57 % of Samsung s10.

Higher the number more the usable area. iPhone 8 has a screen of 4.7 inches compared to 6.1 inches of iPhone XR despite the phone being only slightly bigger than the iPhone 8. You will get a bigger display for the price difference of $100. This alone answers the question is the iPhone 8 worth buying?

iPhone 8 And 8 Plus Design: Choose Your Size

As counterparts to one another, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus look nearly identical, except for the fact that the iPhone 8 Plus is bigger and has a higher resolution. It has a 5.5-inch, 1080p LCD display while the iPhone 8 has a 4.7-inch, 750p screen.

Despite the obvious size difference though, you still have to consider how the size will affect your everyday interaction with the phone. If you have a smaller grip, for example, the iPhone 8 is more comfortable to hold and fits into pockets easier. If you watch a lot of video and play games, the larger iPhone 8 Plus is more immersive. And even though you might not be able to discern it with the naked eye, given the iPhone 8 Plus’ greater resolution and pixel density, images are a tad sharper .

Other than that though, the devices are similar. They come in three colors , but phones this old means limited inventory, so retailers may stock fewer options. They are both water resistant and have wireless charging. But they also don’t have headphone jacks and — instead of swiping gestures for navigating or Face ID, like in newer phones — they have a physical home button that houses the fingerprint reader.

iPhone 8 Vs iPhone Se

The iPhone 8 looks a little dated now because it still has a camera notch interrupting the screen, a physical button on the front and the bezels are a lot thicker than you’ll see on the best phones you can buy this year. The iPhone SE looks very similar though, so they’re pretty much on par when it comes to design.

Both phones also have a 4.7-inch screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels, as well as a 1,821mAh battery, so they are neck and neck in those areas.

Another likeness is in their camera systems. Both devices have a decent 12MP rear camera and a 7MP front camera. The iPhone SE will have better camera features though so while photos won’t look that different, you can expect the SE to be a step ahead in the final result.

Under the hood, the iPhone 8 packs Apple’s A11 Bionic chipset, it’s inevitably going to be less powerful than the iPhone SE which has an A13 CPU. Day-to-day, you won’t see that much of a difference but if you start throwing more demanding tasks at it, the newer phone is sure to be a clear winner.

What you can take from this is that the iPhone 8 and iPhone SE are very similar phones, but because the iPhone SE is newer with slightly updated hardware, it’s definitely the better buy in 2022. You will have to pay just a little bit more for it but it’ll be worth it to get more years of updates from Apple. Take a look at the widget below to see where you can pick one up.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 8 Display

As we noted, you’re getting a bigger screen with the iPhone 11, at 6.1 inches. The iPhone 8 features a 4.7-inch display, while the iPhone 8 Plus bumps the screen size up to 5.5 inches.

The iPhone 11 features an LCD screen, like the older iPhones, but they go by different names. Apple has dubbed the screen on the iPhone 11 a “Liquid Retina display,” compared to the Retina display available on the iPhone 8. There’s not really much of a difference: The iPhone 11 offers the same pixels per inch as the iPhone 8, and when we tested the displays, they turned in similar numbers for reproducing colors and, in the case of the iPhone 8 Plus, color accuracy. All three phones support True Tone, Apples technology for adjusting the display based on ambient lighting around it.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus both support 3D Touch the iPhone 11 does not, turning to Haptic feedback where you can summon up shortcuts and other commands with a long press of the iPhone’s screen. Considering that iOS 13 added support for long presses to all iPhones, losing 3D Touch support doesn’t feel like that big a downgrade.

Performance: iPhone 8 Vs iPhone 8 Plus

Why iPhone 8 Plus is STILL Relevant in 2021..

When Apple launched the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, these smartphones were touted as the fastest ones in the market at that time. While the newer models like the iPhone XS and iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max have taken this lead forward, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus offered a significant improvement to an already good smartphone.

Both the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus come with the Apple A11 Bionic chipset, which was a gamechanger when it first released with the models. With a six-core CPU, six-core GPU and an M11 motion coprocessor, both the models show improved speed when it comes to performance. The iPhone 8 comes with a 2 GB RAM, while the iPhone 8 Plus comes with 3 GB RAM. While this may seem like a significant difference, you must remember that the iPhone 8 Plus also has to power a display with higher resolution as well as dual cameras.

If you were wondering why Bionic had to be added to the A11, it is from the integrated dual-core Neural engine that is responsible for the image processing required for Face ID, a facial recognition system that maps your face in 3D and notices any changes like haircuts or facial hair. Both these phones, however, cannot access it as FaceID.
