I am a tech blogger. I write articles for iMore about the iPhone and various accessories. I frequently use my iPhone to take photos for iMore articles. I tend to pick a more premium iPhone, because, well, I do love Apple products. And I do use them for my work here at iMore. My iPhone is part of my work, but more than that, it’s part of my professional persona. My colleagues by and large go for the highest-end iPhones, the latest and greatest. I definitely feel a bit of peer pressure here. We are pros, after all, we make a living with our tech, aren’t we the target market? Not to mention that we write specifically about Apple tech and lifestyle.
But I’m also a Gen X suburban wife, mom, and teacher. I’m no gamer, maybe a little Words with Friends, but that’s about it. I take a lot of photos, mostly of my travels, my kids, and my dog. I keep up with my mother via email, my friends on Facebook, my kids on Snapchat and Instagram. I’m not the typical niche tech nerd in every way. My family and IRL friends are not early adopters, and they hold on to their phones for years. I doubt most of them even notice or care when I upgrade my iPhone. Having the latest iPhone is not impressive in my social circles.
The Design The Big Difference

The 11 Pro has stainless steel edges to complete the premium phone feel. Weighing 188 grams, its actually a little bit heavier than the iPhone XS, but its really not something you’d notice. Its definitely still a very lightweight phone that feels great in hand and doesnt weigh down your pockets.
The iPhone 11 is a little bigger and bulkier than the 11 Pro, its glass back and brushed aluminium edges can feel a tad slippery when compared to the 11 Pro, but if you end up getting a case this wont be an issue. It weighs 194 grams so its a also heavier, but its not a hugely noticeable difference. And you do get more screen for your money.

We first saw this chip in the new iPad Air 4, and its likely to be amongst the fastest processors of this generation. However, the iPhone 11 Pro is no slouch, and the A13 Bionic processor isnt going to be showing its age for a long time yet. Itll still handle anything you throw at it though the A14 Bionic will have the advantage.
Our concerns about the smaller battery in the iPhone 12 Pro have turned out to be mostly unfounded, with Apples new iPhone providing an easy days worth of power. Heavy days of use will see the battery drop into low power mode by the end of the day, but this isnt really worth worrying about. We do think theres less wiggle room than youd get with the iPhone 11 Pros full day battery life, but its not worth picking one over the other for. Youll enjoy the same decent 18W fast charging and Qi wireless charging on both iPhones, but keep in mind that the new iPhone doesnt come with a charging block.
As the iPhone 12 Pros battery has proven to be solid, were now changing this category to hand the win to the iPhone 12 Pros more powerful hardware. Its simply the most powerful iPhone out there, and that deserves to be celebrated.

After six months of use without a case, the backs of both the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro still didn’t have a single scratch or scuff. The textured matte glass back on the iPhone 11 Pro feels soft, smooth and durable. The phone is easy to grip and never feels like it’s going to slip out of my hand . I’m happy to say that fingerprint smudges don’t accumulate easily.
The iPhone 11, meanwhile, has a glossy glass back, which does feel slippery in my hand and the phone is prone to smudges, too.
As far as colors, the iPhone 11 gets things more right than the 11 Pro. You can buy an iPhone 11 in six bright and fun colors. The 11 Pro is less flashy and comes in four rather serious finishes . In a perfect world, I could have the matte glass finish of the 11 Pro and the color options of the 11.
The iPhones have wireless charging and support fast charging, but only the iPhone 11 Pro comes with the 18-watt charger that’s required for fast charging. It’s aggravating that the 11 doesn’t come with this charger and that you’ll have to buy it separately if you want it. To make matters worse, Apple charges $29 for the 18-watt fast charger and $19 for the required cable, when cheaper compatible alternatives are available.Winner: On colors alone, the iPhone 11 takes this one.
