Apples Warranty On Liquid Damage

iPhone XS Water Test! Finally Waterproof!?

A statement from the official Apple website: Liquid damage is not covered under warranty.

In case you have any doubt about it, Apple also specifies that service for the liquid damage to an iPhone or iPod isnt covered by the Apple One-Year Limited Warranty.

In other words, if your phone is damaged by any liquid, in any way, prepare to pay with your wallet.

How does Apple assess whether your iPhone is damaged by liquid?

When technicians examine your damaged iPhone X, they check the liquid contact indicator .

Its located inside the SIM card slot. Upon contact with water, the LCI changes from white/silver to red.

You can also spot the indicator yourself. Apples chart shows where the LCI is located in different iPhone models.

Once its identified that the LCI is activated , you will be denied the warranty.

To prevent liquid damage, Apple advises you not to disassemble your iPhone, intentionally submerge, expose it to water or use it in humid environments such as a sauna or swimming pool.

iPhone X was made to simply resist wet conditions. Not made to be used in wet conditions.

Treat your iPhone X as the delicate technological marvel it is.

iPhone Xr Ip67 Rating: What Does It Mean

As you can see, IP ratings refer to two types of protection: 1) from dust and other materials, and 2) the level of water exposure it can handle. The iPhone XR is rated at IP67 which means it can handle a little bit of water: up to 30 minutes in depths of up to one meter of water.

This means you DO NOT want to go swimming in a pool with your iPhone XR or take it out into the sea. The iPhone XRs IP67 rating is there to protect it from accidents like accidentally dropping it in your pint or down the toilet.

It doesnt mean the iPhone XR is 100% waterproof. It just means water, so long as it is not too deep and the phone isnt exposed for too long, wont kill your iPhone. Leave it in there for prolonged periods of time, however, and you run the risk of breaking your phone.

What To Do If Your Phone Gets Wet

If your iPhone gets wet from water, turn it off and try to get it as dry as possible. If it gets wet from any liquid other than water, rinse your iPhone under clean water, then clean your iPhone off with a soft cloth and dry it as much as you can.

To dry your iPhone, tap it gently against your hand with the charging port facing down to remove excess liquid. You could also place your iPhone in front of a fan to help the drying process.

Dont dry your iPhone with an external heat source. And don’t stick a foreign component, such as a cotton swab or a paper towel, into the Lightning charging port.

Also, don’t disassemble the device yourself. Doing so may end up damaging the protective parts of the iPhone.

If the damage seems severe, take your iPhone to an expert for repairs.

What Do I Do If I Dropped My Airpod In Water

Youve dropped your AirPods in water, and theyre now drenched. Luckily, Apples own recommendation for maintenance may just solve the problem. Before even attempting to connect them to your phone or use them, simply dry them thoroughly with a microfiber cloth and let them sit upside down to air out.

Despite the progress Apple has made in safeguarding the iPhone from water damage, we still cant recommend you dunk your iPhone underwater. Apple also advises against this, which is reflected in the companys customer advice and warranty terms.

For now, wed recommend using common sense, putting your iPhone in a protective case, and investing in a fully waterproof housing if youre going to be shooting selfies on a log flume any time soon.

Water Damage Is Not Covered By Apples Warranty

Despite Apples water-resistant claims, the companys warranty doesn’t cover any water damage.

Some people think that Apple would not know for sure if they take a water-damaged iPhone to be repaired under warranty coverage. However, many smartphone manufacturers, including Apple, have built-in indicators that allow them to see if the phone has been in contact with water.

These are called Liquid Contact Indicators . Depending on the model, the LCI is hidden in the iPhones SIM slot or headphone slot. If the iPhone has not had any contact with water, the LCI should be white. iPhones that have been spilled on or dunked in water will have red LCIs.

If Apple sees that the LCI is red, the damage will not be covered by them.

Is My iPhone Still Water

If you replace any iPhone parts at an Apple-approved outlet, your water resistance should still be intact. However, third-party repairs could result in your iPhone losing its water-resistant capabilities.

When the device is opened, the waterproof seal gets broken and it needs to be replaced to ensure water resistance.

Most people prefer third-party repairers because they offer lower prices than Apple-accredited technicians. Apple-approved repairs cost a pretty penny, but you can be sure that you will get what you pay for in the form of high-grade replacement parts and qualified technicians.

If you do decide to take your iPhone to a third-party service provider, be sure to confirm that they properly replaced the sealant strips. Sadly, theres no way to know for sure you would have to take the technician at their word.

Water, wine, beer and bay: We tested the durability claims of Apple’s new flagship to see how liquid-resistant it really is.

She joined the team seven years ago as an on-camera reporter for CNET’s Spanish-language site and then moved on to the English side to host and produce some of CNET’s videos and YouTube series. When she’s not testing out smartwatches or dropping phones, you can catch her on a hike or trail run with her family.

Water resistance is not new for iPhones, but when Apple announced the iPhone XS, it made big claims about just how resistant this phone was. Its IP68 rating means it can survive a dunk of up to 2 meters of water for up to 30 minutes compared to the 1 meter IP67 rating on the previous models.

Phil Schiller, Apple’s marketing chief, even gave his blessing to take it off the deep end at the company’s September keynote.

“So if you happen to be hanging by the pool, drop your phone in the water… don’t worry, dive down, grab it, rinse it, let it dry, you’ll be fine,” said Schiller.

And Schiller didn’t stop at pool water.

“And the team tested in many different liquids — in chlorinated water, salt water, orange juice, tea, wine, even beer. Now this is some of the most fun intense testing we get to do at Apple,” he added.

If My iPhone Xs Back Glass/screen Cracked Is It Still Waterproof

Is The iPhone XS / XS Max Waterproof? Here’s The Truth!

Answer: iPhone X was never waterproof. It was made to be only water-resistant. Most iPhone users face two different types of cracks, namely internal cracks and external cracks .

Both cracks are considered physical damage and part of an iPhone Xs normal wear.

If you drop a cracked iPhone X into a body of water, the liquid will find its way into your phone.

Some users say that their iPhone continues to function normally even after such incidents. However, its because the water hasnt corroded the phones circuit board yet. Over the weeks, many find their phones become less and less responsive until it longer works.

A crack is a chink in the armor. A breach that definitely reduces water resistance.

Is The iPhone 8 Waterproof Or Water

Introduced in 2017, the iPhone 8 continues the iPhone 7’s water resistance capabilities with an IP67 rating under IEC standard 60529. This means that the iPhone 8, like the iPhone 7 before it, could withstand a short immersion in the tub or in a quick rain, but anything more substantial than the lightest water exposure could compromise the device. And, like the iPhone 7, the device’s magical water-resistant capabilities would fade under normal wear and tear, and Apple again gave no guidelines as to when users may expect this out-of-the-box protection to have abandoned them.

What’s worse is that the water resistance claims were not backed by any specific guarantee, and Apple still won’t cover water damage under warranty, leaving consumers with a confusing water protection capability that may or may not work and that Apple itself admits is less effective as time passes.

So if you’ve ever wondered about your phone’s supposed “waterproof” capabilities, consider a real waterproof iPhone 8 case. None of this pseudo waterproof stuff. With a Hitcase Pro, Shield, Shield Link or Splash, you can get up to 33 feet of waterproof protection , so even a deep snorkeling adventure or light scuba excursion is no problem at all. Even if you opt for 10 feet of IP68 waterproof protection with the Shield, Shield Link or Splash, you’re covered for just about anything that comes your way in a case that’s far more robust than your naked iPhone.

Is The iPhone X Waterproof Or Water

Launched along with the iPhone 8 in 2017, the iPhone X carries the same IP67 water resistance rating as the iPhone 7 and 8, with all the wishy-washy language and empty promises, to boot. Like the iPhone 7 and 8, you get one meter of water-resistant protection that eventually wears off with normal use. The timeline, and what buyers can expect from the phone’s built-in protection, is conspicuously absent from any documentation, and Apple takes it one step further by stating that water damage is not covered by warranty.

So if you’re looking for a waterproof iPhone X case, look no further than Hitcase. With the Hitcase Pro, Shield Link and Splash, you can get up to a staggering 33 feet of waterproof protection, turning your next water adventure or downpour into a photo opportunity, not something to hide from. And with our iPhone Lens Kit, you get three additional creative opportunities you don’t get with a stock iPhone. So pick up an iPhone X waterproof case today and stop hiding indoors with your phone.

What To Look For In The Best iPhone Xs Max Waterproof Cases

With so many different rugged cases to choose from, its hard to choose the best of the best. A lot of cases provide at least a little bit of surface or drop protection from day-to-day damage, but this may not be enough to keep your expensive iPhone Xs Max totally safe from all damage. Though drop proof and waterproof cases do add a bit of width and bulk to iPhones and other devices, its a necessary trade-off to protect your investment.

Another consideration is that not all cases are created equal in terms of protection: while many meet the minimum IP68 requirements, a lot of phone cases only provide the same protection as a naked iPhone. Very few exceed 2 meters of submersion for longer periods of time. You should also look for a phone case that does not make your iPhone Xs Max more difficult to use. Some cases make the OLED display screen harder to see, the camera lens much darker, the speakers more muffled, and the buttons less responsive.

Which iPhones Are Water

The iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max each have an IP68 rating. According to Apple, these devices can withstand a depth of up to 4 meters for 30 minutes. This is the most waterproof phone Apple has ever manufactured.

The iPhone XS and XS Max come in a close second, with an IP68 rating. Apple claims these devices can withstand a depth of 2 meters for up to 30 minutes.

The iPhone 7, 8, X, and their respective Plus/Max models each achieved an IP67 rating for a depth of 1 meter up to 30 minutes.

The iPhone 6s lacks any kind of water or dust resistant rating, but demonstrated a high level of water resistance in consumer tests. Its possible Apple was testing the water-resistant technology that officially made it into the iPhone 7. Both revisions of the iPhone SE lack any water resistance.

Is The iPhone 13 Waterproof

No, the iPhone 13 isnt completely waterproof. However, all iPhone 13 models, including the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max, come with an Ingress Protection rating of IP68.

IP ratings fall under the International Electrotechnical Commission 60529 standard, which rates how well devices hold up to dust and moisture. IP grades are the industry standard for electronics. Youll find IP ratings on headphones, smartwatches, and various other personal gadgets.

IP numbers come in two parts:

  • Dust protection: The first number measures dust protection on a scale from no protection to wholly sealed off .
  • Moisture resistance: The second number goes from no seal to complete protection against water pressure from multiple anglesand hot water too .

The IP68 rating on iPhone 13 indicates these phones are well protected against dust and are also water-resistant but not fully waterproof.

What does that mean in real life? Whether you accidentally drop your phone in a pool or intentionally take your phone with you in water, your iPhone 13 should be okay.

Apple states all four iPhone 13 models can be submerged and protected in water up to 6 meters deep for up to 30 minutes.

What To Do If You Regularly Work In Or Around Deep Water

There are cases marketed as waterproof. In reality, waterproof cases are not actually waterproof, they’re just far more water resistant. Some are sufficiently more water resistant that you can use them for underwater photography, for a time.

Cases such as the iBelief Waterproof Case for iPhone 12 Pro, quote a rating of IP68, and specify that they work underwater for up to one hour, at a depth of 2 meters . Others, such as those by Catalyst can offer resistance in up to 10 meters of water, but don’t specify a time limit.

It’s common to include a rating such as IP68, and no details. Some cases will just use the word “waterproof” and offer no more information than that.

Take that as a sign that water resistance is difficult and take that as a sign that iPhones and water don’t mix.

We can all be extremely relieved that Apple has managed to make iPhones more water resistant. But we still can’t be casual about dramatically dropping our phones in ice buckets, or comedically dropping them in a restroom sink.

What Activities Can Water

Ultimate iPhone XS Max Water Test – Waterproof or Not?

Armed with this info about the water-resistant capabilities of your iPhone, you may be tempted to bring your device with you on a swim to take some cool underwater selfies.

Dont.

A new iPhones water resistance is ensured by seals and gaskets that block the ports and other openings. However, these seals can weaken over time due to normal wear or tear, and theres no concrete way of confirming that they are still effective.

Apple gives no guidelines as to when this protection expires, so your iPhones water resistance is really up to guesswork. Some phones come out of the factory with defects, so they may even be missing these seals.

To be safe, keep your iPhone away from water completely. At most, you can be consoled that your iPhone will probably be fine if it accidentally falls in a toilet bowl or if youre caught in a light downpour.

Even Apple recommends that you avoid using your iPhone if you are:

  • Swimming, bathing, or using a sauna or steam room
  • Exposing the device to pressurized or high-velocity water
  • Cleaning the device with pressurized air
  • Intentionally submerging the device for any reason
  • Using the iPhone outside of the recommended temperature or humidity ranges

In other words, Apple is saying Dunk your iPhone underwater at your own risk.
