iPhone 8 Plus Vs iPhone X: Display
The biggest difference between these iPhones is the display. The iPhone 8 Plus sports the same Retina display as it has in prior generations, an LCD that in the Plus size is full HD at 1920×1080.
The iPhone X features a 5.8-inch Super Retina HD HDR display.
Apple completely changed that with the iPhone X. It has an edge-to-edge OLED display, which gives it a much higher contrast ratio and support for HDR video. Its got a higher resolution and pixel density tooApples even calling it Super Retina.
When comparing these phones side-by-side, the iPhone X is the clear winner by far. The colors are rich and pop, text looks clean and sharp, and the black is so deep that we find it mesmerizing. This is the best screen weve seen on an iPhone.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 8 Plus: Price
The iPhone 11 just had a price cut, bringing it down to £599 / $599 / AU$999 with 64GB of storage. That may not be enough if you want to have access to large libraries of files on it directly, but you can step up to 128GB for £649 / $649 / AU$1079 or 256GB for £749 / $749 / AU$1249.
The iPhone 8 Plus is no longer sold new by Apple, so while it’s occasionally possible to find a new models sold through a phone retailer, you’ll mostly be looking at pre-owned or refurbished models. The iPhone 8 Plus was available in 64GB or 256GB, and you should be looking at around half the price of iPhone for one in a good condition.
The downside, of course, is that this won’t necessarily come with any warranty some second-hand stores do provide them, but if you buy privately you’ll be looking at paying to repair any problems yourself.

Other Things To Consider: Capacity Dual
Capacity: Both the iPhone XR and 8 Plus still have 64GB models available. At launch, they had 256GB memory capacities and the iPhone XR had a third memory option of 128GB. However, now that the iPhone 11 devices are out, the 256GB option has been discontinued and currently, the iPhone XR and 8 Plus come in 64GB and 128GB. This is not bad per se 128GB is commonly considered to be the “sweet spot” as far as storage goes. That’s because 64GB may not be enough to hold all your photos and 4K videos, 256GB may be too extravagant.
You can have two numbers on the iPhone XR.
Dual-sim capabilities: Newer iPhones have dual-sim capabilities. That means you can manage two different phone numbers on the same iPhone XR, using a nano-SIM and e-SIM. For more information, check out CNET’s dual-SIM and eSIM FAQ here.
3D Touch: The iPhone 8 Plus’ screen is pressure-sensitive, and has a feature called 3D Touch. By tapping a tad harder with your finger, you can preview links, apps and messages before opening them. Aside from a few things that you can long-press , the iPhone XR, as well as the iPhone 11 devices, do not have this feature for the most part.
What iPhone Is The Biggest
The biggest iPhone you can buy right now is the iPhone 12 Pro Max it has a 6.7in OLED display, the biggest ever fitted to an iPhone, and it measures in at 160.8 x 78.1 x 7.4 mm, making it the largest iPhone Apple has produced since the launch of the iPhone X.
However, the biggest iPhone overall, by sheer size, is the iPhone 8 Plus. Because it has a home button and large bezels at the top and bottom, it is both wider and taller than the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Apples biggest iPhone is always its Plus model , Max, or Pro Max models on its more modern iPhone releases. For instance, the biggest iPhone in 2019 was the iPhone 11 Pro Max. In 2018, the biggest iPhone was the iPhone XS Max. And in 2020, the biggest iPhone will be the iPhone 12 Pro Max which has a 6.7in OLED display.
This will remain the general rule of thumb going forwards until Apple changes how it brands its iPhone. Interestingly, we could see a return on the plus branding in 2021 with the release of the iPhone SE Plus which will replace the now-discontinued iPhone 8 Plus.
Apples entry-level iPhones for the last couple of years have also been fairly large too the iPhone XR has a 6.1in LCD screen size and so too does the iPhone 11, again, this phone uses LCD instead of OLED which is currently reserved for Apples more expensive Pro and Pro Max models.

Apple iPhone X Vs iPhone 8 Vs iPhone 8 Plus: What’s The Difference
Apple s new iPhones. But despite the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X sharing many of the same features, there is a massive 40% price difference between the cheapest and most expensive models. So what are the big differences between them and which should you buy? If any
Lets break it down
iPhone X , iPhone 8 Plus , iPhone 8
Displays – The Past Vs The Future
The obvious starting point when comparing the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X is their displays
- iPhone X – 5.8-inch 19.5:9 aspect ratio True Tone OLED, 2436 x 1125 pixels , 82.9% screen-to-body ratio
- iPhone 8 – 4.7-inch 16:9 aspect ratio True Tone LCD, 1334 x 750 pixels , 65.6% screen-to-body ratio
- iPhone 8 Plus – 5.5-inch 16:9 aspect ratio True Tone LCD, 1920 x 1080 pixels , 67.7% screen-to-body ratio
The big news here is twofold: while the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus retain the same sizes and core screen technology as their predecessors, the iPhone X is Apples first smartphone to both use OLED and switch to the longer and narrower 19.5:9 aspect ratio .
From a visual standpoint, OLED is far superior to LCD. It delivers a much higher contrast ratio and power savings. It also has the highest screen resolution of any iPhone – though not quite at the 2880 x 1440 of rivals. The flipside is OLED does pose the risk of burn-in over time and youll see a slight Blue tint if you view the display from an angle .

New Portrait Lighting Mode
- Portrait mode is faster and better than before
- Portrait Lighting is a small but impressive new feature
The headline feature of the 12MP dual sensor on the rear camera is the enhanced bokeh mode dubbed Portrait Lighting.
The abilities here are pretty astounding, and show how powerful the A11 Bionic chip is inside being able to algorithmically work out the contours of the face and change the lighting dynamically is impressive.
This can be done either while the picture is being taken or after, via the gallery. It’s a powerful tool, albeit not one that really impressed anyone we showed it to.
And that’s kind of indicative of the iPhone 8 Plus as a whole while the overall experience is smoothed and enhanced, the headline features aren’t really there. Portrait Lighting is, well, fine and we almost feel guilty for not evangelizing about it more, given how much intelligence has gone into creating it.
But taking a Portrait mode picture takes some setting up as it is so achieving the level of quality where Portrait Lighting makes a big difference to the outcome is rare.
However, the new Portrait mode is one of the places where the iPhone 8 Plus is a significant upgrade over its predecessor it’s brighter, faster to recognize the object you’re trying to snap, and it’s also got that Portrait Lighting feature, which isnt available on the older models.

iPhone 8 Plus Vs iPhone X: Performance
Inside, the differences arent so stark. Both phones pack the same processor, Apples 64-bit A11 Bionic system-on-a-chip with an embedded M11 motion coprocessor. Both also have a dedicated neural engine to let AI processing happen on the device.
The A11 Bionic chip and M11 coprocessor will enable smooth AR experiences in iOS 11.
The A11 Bionic has a whopping six cores: Two for high-performance computing, and four efficiency cores for tasks that dont require as much performanceor as much power. Apple says the A11 is 75 percent faster than the previous generation.
Our benchmarks between the two phones are pretty similar. Obviously, the A11 Bionic is faster than last years A10 Fusion, but whats of note hereand not surprisingis that the iPhone X essentially performs the same as the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. These three phones have the same processor, so if all you want in a new iPhone is faster performance and you could not care less about new features like Face ID or the cameras, get an iPhone 8 Plus.

iPhone 12 Vs iPhone 8 Verdict
You’d expect a phone packing in three years of design changes, hardware improvements and software enhancements to be a significant upgrade over its predecessor, and that’s what Apple has delivered with the iPhone 12 vs. the iPhone 8.
Now that we’ve tested both the iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone 12, we’ve seen enough to know that both have earned their place among the best iPhones. If you’re holding onto an iPhone 8, there’s no better time to upgrade than right now.

Performance: The iPhone Xr’s Processor Is Faster
My day-to-day handling of both iPhones didn’t show any discernible differences in speed, and when it came to daily tasks like launching apps and firing up the camera, both phones appeared to perform as swiftly as the other.
But the iPhone XR is indeed faster on paper, thanks to its more advanced A12 processor . Check out the benchmarks below:
iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 8 Plus: Which Should You Buy
When it comes to the screen, there are tempting reasons to choose the iPhone 8 Plus it might be a little smaller, but its sharper and perfect for video, and otherwise theres little quality difference.
However in every other way, the iPhone 11 is its superior. From the extra screen size to the quality of the camera to the battery life to the future-proofing of the processor, its a wiser investment. Especially when you take into account that you get Apples global warranty when buying the iPhone 11 new.

iPhone 8 Vs iPhone 8 Plus
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are almost identical when it comes down to specs. The latter has a 5.5-inch display instead of a 4.7-inch screen and has Apple’s more advanced cameras that allow you to take fancy portrait photos and zoom into objects . It has a slightly bigger battery, too, but otherwise almost everything else is the same.
No, there still isn’t a headphone jack, but I’ve long moved on to using Bluetooth headphones. Apple includes a set of earbuds in the box that work over its Lightning port, however, so you’re not left out in the cold. You can always grab an adapter, too.
The stereo speakers, which fire sound from the top and bottom are louder and are easily among the best on a smartphone I’ve used. It’s really pleasing to sit on the couch and watch a TV show on the iPhone without hearing sound coming out of just one side of the phone.
The new iPhone 8 models feature a shiny glass back panel instead of aluminum, which Apple has used in almost all of its iPhones. The glass panel enables support for wireless charging, a feature Apple hasn’t ever offered before.
iPhone 8 Vs iPhone 8 Plus: What’s The Difference
Apple performed a switcheroo with the expected iPhone 8 branded iPhone X and iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus becoming the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. The latter two again look identical to previous generations so should you be disappointed?
In short: maybe. The bad news is continues to push out what are now four generation old designs, but on the flip side there are a lot of internal upgrades which may steer you away from the radical yet jaw droppingly expensive iPhone X.
iPhone 8 vs iPhone 8 Plus look virtually identical to their predecessors, but a lot… has changed
So lets break down the crucial differences between the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus
Design & Size – More Glass, More Bulk
Anyone hoping Apple would redesign its entire iPhone range is in for disappointment. While the iPhone X got a full overhaul, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are almost identical to every iPhone since the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. And what they have changed is controversial.
The aluminium backs of their predecessors have been swapped for glass while the change in materials has made the new models both slightly thicker and noticeably heavier than what came before:
- iPhone 8 – 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm and 148g
- iPhone 8 Plus – 158.4 x 78.1 x 7.5 mm and 202g
Glass backs add to the weight of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, but they do bring wireless charging
iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are IP67 dust and water resistant
