iPhone 12 Pro Vs iPhone 12 Pro Max: Performance
The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max share the same specs, as they’re both powered by Apple’s 5nm A14 Bionic chip and 6GB of RAM. So it’s not a surprise that they offer comparable performance.
On Geekbench 5, which measures overall performance, the iPhone 12 Pro notched a single-core score of 1,585 and a multi-core score of 3,669. The iPhone 12 Pro Max scored a similar 1,603 on single core but hit an even higher 4,111 multi-core mark.
We also transcoded a 4K video to 1080p using the Adobe Premiere Rush app, and the iPhone 12 Pro took only 27 seconds. The iPhone 12 Pro Max was right behind at 28.5 seconds.
Lastly, we ran the 3D Mark Wild Life graphics benchmark, and both phones excelled. The iPhone 12 Pro registered 51 frames per second on the Unlimited test and the iPhone 12 Pro Max reached a slightly higher 54 fps.
Whether you get the iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max, expect better performance that the leading Android phones, even those powered by the newer Snapdragon 888 system-on-chip. The newer iPhone 13 models feature the A15 Bionic, though, which figures to raise the performance bar even higher.
Truedepth Camera And Face Id
For biometric authentication purposes, the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max use Face ID, the facial recognition system that was first introduced in 2017. Face ID components are housed in the TrueDepth camera system in the display notch.
Face ID is used across iOS tasks for unlocking the iPhone, allowing access to third-party passcode-protected apps, confirming app purchases, and authenticating Apple Pay payments.
Face ID works through a set of sensors and cameras. A Dot Projector projects more than 30,000 invisible infrared dots onto the surface of the skin to create a 3D facial scan that maps the curves and planes of each face, with the scan read by an infrared camera.
The facial depth map is relayed to the A14 chip where it is transformed into a mathematical model that the iPhone uses to authenticate identity. Face ID works in low light and in the dark, and with hats, beards, glasses, sunglasses, scarves, and other accessories that partially obscure the face.
Face ID data is stored in the Secure Enclave, and it is not accessible to Apple, third-party apps, or anyone who has your phone. Authentication happens on-device and no Face ID data is uploaded to Apple.

: Apple announced the iPhone 13 series earlier this month. The new phones follow in the footsteps of the iPhone 12 series with four models: the iPhone 13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. Last year’s iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max have been discontinued, but the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini hang around at a lower price. That means you can get an iPhone 12 Mini with 64GB of memory for $629, which is $100 less than its original price and the cost of the new iPhone 13 Mini with 128GB of storage. The iPhone 12 with 64GB starts at $729, which is $100 less than the 128GB iPhone 13. Those prices don’t include carrier discounts. My review of the iPhone 12 from Oct. 20, 2020, follows.
The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro mark the beginning of a new generation of iPhone. Support for 5G, a new hardware design and camera improvements are a significant step away from the iPhone X generation of devices. This is nothing new. Apple did something similar in 2010 with the iPhone 4 and in 2014 when it released the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

Additionally, get a screen protector as well and make sure it covers the entire screen. Many screen protectors that are aesthetically pleasant often fail to cover the corners and edges.

Apples iPhone 14 Maxs Secret Weapon Could Be Its Price
The iPhone 14 Max is exactly what Cupertino needs to offer in order to bring more users to the Apple ecosystem. In fact, the iPhone 14 Max could be the middle-ground for those who want big-screen-sized phones. But the biggest and arguably best reason to upgrade to the iPhone 14 Max could be its price. A Bloomberg report claims the iPhone 14 Max will be $200 cheaper than an iPhone 14 Pro Max. Currently, an iPhone 13 Pro Max starts at $1099, meaning an iPhone 14 Max, if priced at $899, would cost around $200 less than Apples largest iPhone size. But thats an increase on the $699 iPhone 13 Mini it replaces. Even if the iPhone 14 Max comes at a premium price, it will still make sense for people who want the big-screen iPhone but dont need a 120Hz display, a triple rear-facing camera system and other features that are limited to the pro range.

Is It Worth Upgrading To The iPhone 12 Pro Max Instead
While the iPhone 12 Pro is incredibly powerful, for some the jump up to the most decked-out version of the iPhone 12 will be one worth making…as long as you have the cash to back that decision.
While both handsets share the core features like the triple camera lens set-up, 5G connections, the A14 Bionic chip and MagSafe features, the Pro Max gives the Pro a boost in a few crucial categories.
The screen jumps from 6.1-inches to 6.7, the battery capacity sees a considerable boost and the Pro Max features a better zoom and wide angle function through the camera.

Will My New iPhone Be Unlocked
All iPhone models sold on apple.com and at the Apple Store are unlocked, which means they arent tied to a single carrier, and you can use a SIM from the carrier of your choosing. The exception is when you buy an iPhone with an AT& T Installment Plan. It will be locked to AT& T as the carrier and will only work on the AT& T network for the term of your Installment Plan agreement.

At the time of this writing, third-party vendors haven’t yet begun to discount the iPhone 12 Pro. However, the iPhone 12 Pro will become much more attractive for a certain type of Pro user when those drops in price begin to show up.
If you’re looking for a high-quality iPhone that’s resistant to the elements that still includes a three-camera system and comes in Pacific Blue the iPhone 12 Pro might be the one for you. Otherwise, with no discounts offered, go with the newer model, the iPhone 13 Pro.

G And Wireless Connectivity
Apple upgraded from 4G LTE to 5G in the next-generation iPhones. Qualcomm will provide the modems this year since Intel has exited the 5G modem business.
Apple may start making modems after acquiring the patents from Intel in a billion-dollar deal. However, the Apple-designed modems wouldn’t be ready until 2022 at the earliest.

Thats when Apple holds its signature launch event ahead of a holiday season when Apples sales are at their peak. Ceramic Shield Vs Gorilla Glass
Another notable difference is the screen glass. Apple unveiled its new “ceramic shield” technology with the iPhone 12 lineup, which it says gives the phone a 4x better drop performance than the Gorilla Glass screen on iPhone 11. We haven’t conducted drop or scratch tests for the iPhone 12 Pro or Pro Max, but we put ceramic shield to the test on the baseline iPhone 12 and also drop-tested the iPhone 12 Mini, and it seems virtually indestructible. The iPhone 11 Pro fared incredibly well in our drop testing, though we did find some damaged pixels on its screen.

iPhone 12 And 12 Pro Capture Excellent Photos And Videos
The cameras received hardware, software and processing upgrades. While other phones might have a standout camera feature that these iPhones lack, the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro can capture excellent photos and video and deliver consistently fantastic images. The iPhone 12 has the exact same cameras as the iPhone 12 Pro, except for the telephoto camera and lidar. But these phones aren’t just dependent on hardware to take good photos and videos. Apple’s new A14 Bionic chip, along with software and machine learning, adds improvements to everything.
For example, the 12 and 12 Pro have the same hardware for their ultrawide-angle camera as 2019’s 11 and 11 Pro. But the 12 and 12 Pro have software to correct the lens distortion.
