- Group MMS. At least one person isn’t using iMessage or an Apple device, and texts appear green. Though most iMessage features aren’t available, everyone can send and receive multimedia attachments and see all messages in the group chat.
- Group SMS. At least one person has both iMessage and MMS turned off, and they will send and receive messages outside of the group. They can’t send multimedia attachments or see the responses in the group chat.

How To Enable Group Chat On iPhone
Before you attempt to start a group text chat on your iPhone or if you do try and are having trouble you should make sure the feature is enabled. In most cases, it will probably be turned on by default, but if it ends up being disabled for some reason you won’t have any luck when you attempt to get everyone together.
First, open your iPhone’s Settings app, then scroll down and select Messages. Scroll down through the Messages menu until you get to the “SMS/MMS” section, then look for Group Messaging. If the toggle is green, then Group Messaging is enabled and you should be good to go. If it’s gray , then you’ll need to tap the button to turn Group Messaging on.

How To Mention Someone In Messages
To get started, open the Messages app and navigate to a group conversation. Here, type the name of the person you want to mention as it appears in your contacts.
Type the first or last name completely, and youll see it turn gray tap it.
Youll see that persons full name and profile photo in a popup tap it to select that contact.
Now, youll see a little animation in which the persons name turns blue. This means he or she has been tagged. Tap the Send icon to send your message.
The recipient will then receive a notification that you mentioned them . Whenever your contact taps the notification, he or she will be taken directly to your message.
Apple Only Fully Supports Group Imessage Chats

Remove Contacts From A Group Chat
It is only possible to remove someone from a group message if there are three or more people, not including you. If everyone in the group is an iMessages user, anyone in the group can add or remove contacts. You can remove someone from a group text message after your first message has been sent:
- Open the group message chat and tap on the group info at the top.
- Touch the number of people to see the members of the group.
- Swipe left on the persons name.
- Tap Delete.
