The iPhone 6 is official. And so is the iPhone 6 Plus. While there had been plenty of rumors leading up to the September 9 media event that took place at the Flint Center in Cupertino, California, Apple has finally made the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus official.

The most apparent difference between each device is the screen size. In fact, contrary to plenty of rumors that had emerged out of the Rumor Mill before today, thats the only thing that actually differentiates the pair of handsets. The internals are the same. The hardware features are the same. The only different is the way the software runs on the larger 5.5-inch variant.

With the addition of the barometer, the M8 motion coprocessor can measure elevation in addition to steps taken and distance traveled.

Because of the differences screen size, battery capacity, and some internal components, weight is a key difference between the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The iPhone 6 weighs 4.55 ounces, just 0.6 ounces more than its predecessor, the iPhone 5S. On the other hand, the 6 Plus tips the scales at 6.07 ounces.

It was reported that the optical image stabilization systems on some iPhone 6 Plus models were faulty, failing to properly stabilize when the phone is being held perfectly still, leading to blurry photos and “wavy”-looking videos. The optical image stabilization system was also found to have been affected by accessories that use magnets, such as third-party lens attachments Apple issued advisories to users and its licensed accessory makers, warning that magnetic or metallic accessories can cause the OIS to malfunction.

On August 21, 2015, Apple instituted a repair program for iPhone 6 Plus models released between September 2014 and January 2015, citing that faulty rear cameras on affected models may produce blurry pictures.

Some iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models have an issue in which the front-facing camera is somehow “shifted”, or out of place. Apple stated that they would replace most affected iPhone 6 models with this issue, free of charge. Despite numerous complaints regarding this issue, it does not seem to affect the camera itself. It is said that the camera is not what has shifted, but a piece of protective foam around the camera module itself that has gone out of place.

Based on their specs, the cameras on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus appear to be identical. The back cameras both take 8-megapixel images and 1080p HD video. Both offer the same slo-mo features. The user-facing cameras capture video at 720p HD and photos at 1.2 megapixels.

However, there’s an important element of the cameras that makes a big difference in photo quality: image stabilization.

Image stabilization reduces motion in the camerathe movement of your hand as you take the photo, for example. It improves focus and delivers higher-quality images.

There are two kinds of image stabilization: hardware and software. In software image stabilization, a program automatically tweaks photos to improve their look. Both phones have this.
