All The iPhones That Came Out In Order

A Brief History Of The iPhone

I bought every iPhone ever.

Looking back into the archives, its hard to imagine a world without the iPhone. Its been more than 15 years since the late Steve Jobs stood in front of the world and proclaimed the future was in the palm of our hands, the categoric success of the smartphone has surpassed all expectations. The story of how it came to be is just as interesting, starting way back in 2004. As the former leader of Apple, Jobs, along with design engineer Sir Jonathan Ive, Software engineer Scott Forstall and hardware engineer Tony Fadell gathered a group of 1,000 employees to begin work on a secret project known only as Project Purple writes The Verge.

Release Date: September 16 2022

Similar to the iPhone 14 base model, the 6.1″ iPhone 14 Pro debuted with the same Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via Satellite safety features. In addition to the new A16 Bionic chip, it also got a surprising upgrade, with a new “Dynamic Island” feature where the notch used to be. While the notch isn’t gone, it now adapts to whatever you are doing to more seamlessly display notifications and background activities. It also featured an Always-On display, made possible by low-energy components, so that the time and widgets on your lock screen are always viewable. In perhaps the most impressive update, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max offer a 48 MP camera . This translates to a more flexible camera, with more options for framing and cropping, as well as better low-light shots so you can worry less about the lighting and more about capturing the moment.

Ming-Chi Kuo, a renowned analyst and longtime industry insider, predicts that Apple will replace the iPhone by 2032 with an augmented reality device. For those unfamiliar with the term, augmented reality is when computer-generated images are superimposed on the real world. Currently, you can see AR in apps like Pokemon Go.

iPhone 3gs Carriers And Countries

At this point in iPhone history, the iPhone was still only available on AT& T in the United States. Abroad, it was carried by a number of different companies, such as Vodafone, TMobile, O2, Airtel, Movistar, and many more.

With the release of the iPhone 3GS, Apple also expanded the number of countries in which the phone was available, in addition to the countries that were introduced to the iPhone with the release of the 3G, people in the following countries were able to purchase this revolutionary device starting in 2009:

  • United Arab Emirates

Between the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3Gs, Steve Jobs and co. managed to achieve their goal of making the iPhone a truly global device. There are a few notable countries missing from this list, the most prominent being China. But considering the political climate in China and the relative difficulty U.S. companies have selling their products there, this shouldnt come as much of a surprise. But the size and the buying power of the Chinese market has always been too much for a company such as Apple to resist. However, it would be some time before the history of the iPhone would begin in the worlds most populous country. Nevertheless, by the end of 2009, there were iPhones in almost every corner of the globe.

iPhone X Features And Functionality

The first thing that jumps out about the iPhone X is that it is all screen. Apple did away with much of the material surrounding the screen, and it put in an OLED display that covers the entire surface of the phone. In doing this, though, Apple made a big change: it got rid of its signature Home button. This created a major change in the user experience, as you now need to swipe up with your finger to exit apps and switch between screens. Doing away with the Home button, though, means there is no more Touch ID. But to compensate, the iPhone X has facial recognition, meaning all you need to do is look at your phone to unlock it.

Another new feature of the iPhone X are Aniemojis, which are emojis that move on the screen and that can be created using an avatar based on your own face. While this is hardly a technological breakthrough, it certainly made the iPhone more fun.

Apple

Returning to its tradition of releasing an S version, the next chapter in the history of the iPhone came with the release of the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Plus. The main goal of this upgrade was to improve upon the iPhone X, a phone which made considerable changes to the look and functionality of the iPhone, while also improving its speed. In the process of doing this, Apple also made the phone almost completely water and dust resistant.

Tracking Apples iPhone Journey

These past 12 years have seen the iPhone go from the plastic, low-memory iPhone 3G to the massively powerful iPhone 13, which could outperform most laptops in terms of performance and computing power in 2021. Apple has entirely revamped and redefined the iPhone over this period.

The iPhone has gone through many generations over the years, from 3.5-inches to 6-inches. The conventional home button continued unabated since Apple released the original iPhone, and it stayed in place until Apple released the iPhone 5s, which introduced TouchID, which is Apples biometric reader.

iPhone 14 And 14 Plus

The iPhone 14 and new 14 Plus have the same form factor and price range as last year, with the larger Plus model replacing the discontinued iPhone 13 mini. Both use an updated version of the Bionic A15 processor the same chip used in the 2021 models and offer better battery life. Prices start at $799 for the iPhone 14 and $899 for the larger 14 Plus, with storage options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. Both models use Apples Super Retina XDR displays with the iPhone 14 having a 6.1-in. screen and the 14 Plus model sporting a 6.7-in. display. Both feature a 12MP dual-camera system with Ultra Wide and Wide cameras, sensorshift optical image stabilization, and cinematic and action modes for video. 4K video can be shot at 24 fps, 25 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps and HDR video recording with Dolby Vision is available at up to 60 fps. Pre-orders for the iPhone 14 began Sept. 7, with the phones available in stores on Sept. 16 and Oct. 7 .

Release Date: September 16 2016

Apple finally dropped the 16 GB base model option, with iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus base models starting at 32 GB of storage and going up to 256 GB. Apple also introduced a new shiny Jet Black color. The iPhone 7 Plus proved to be more popular than previous Plus models due to its new dual camera, which made a significantly improved zoom feature possible, and Portrait mode, a software update that let iPhone 7 Plus users take impressive photos using Depth of Field. Perhaps the most controversial feature of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus was the one Apple removed: the headphone jack. The new iPhones shipped with EarPods that plugged into the Lightning port and an adaptor for traditional headphones. Apple introduced its wireless AirPods at the same event it announced it was eliminating the headphone jack. Apple will stop supporting updates for iPhone 7 and 7 Plus once iOS 16 launches in September 2022.

Reviewing EVERY iPhone Ever!

Apple tends to make larger leaps between the original model and the S edition than it does from the S edition to a new model. The iPhone 6’s internal specs were very similar to those of the iPhone 5s. The biggest difference was having a significantly larger screen and offering an even larger size called 6 Plus. The Retina display became HD, and the option to get an iPhone with 128 GB of storage became available. But the amount of memory was the same, and the camera didn’t see a megapixel upgrade. But it didn’t matterApple sold 10 million units in the first week.

iPhone Xs And Xs Max Improvements And Upgrades

Although Apple put quite a bit of work into making the XS and XS Max seem significantly different than the iPhone X, in reality, the phones are very similar. The X and the XS are almost identical in size, except the XS weighs .01 ounces less. The XS Max, by design, is larger. It has a 6.5 inch/16.5cm screen as compared to 5.8 inches/14.7, and it weighs about an ounce more than the iPhone XS.

Both phones got an upgraded camera, largely with improved HDR and image stabilization technology, and although the front-facing camera remained the same, Apple updated the technology to make sure Face ID works more quickly.

Probably the most significant upgrade is in the processor. Apple improved upon its A11 processor and put an A12 processor with six cores in the iPhone XS and XS Max. It has 4GB of RAM and is capable of speeds up to 2.49 GHz, and it comes preloaded with iOS 12

Both the XS and XS Max are available in 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB models, and prices range from $999-$1349. Lastly, battery life was slightly improved. With the XS and XS Max, you get:

  • 20/25 hours of talk time
  • 12/13 hours of internet use
  • 14/15 hours of wireless video playback
  • 60/65 hours of audio playback

Release Date: March 8 2022

The 2022 iPhone SE 3 is the third of its kind, and maintains the 4.7-inch Retina HD display and Home button with Touch ID harken back to the original iPhone SE, and with a similarly low price. The third-generation SE offers many of the features of Apple’s most expensive iPhones, including 5G, an A15 Bionic chip, advanced camera system with Portrait mode, Depth Control, high-definition video, Deep Fusion, wireless charging capability, and long battery life.
