  • How To Change App Icons Without Shortcuts In 2 Ways

Last year, Apple opened the pathway to customization on iPhone with the option to change its home screen however you like by letting you change app icons and add widgets for apps to the home screen. Within weeks of iOS 14s release, the internet was flooded with aesthetic home screens that users created by customizing widgets and changing app icons using Shortcuts.

While the process of creating an app icon inside Shortcuts is a simple affair in itself, it can become tedious since youre required to create a bookmark for one app, add it to your home screen, and repeat it all again for as many apps you want on your main page. If you updated your iPhone to iOS 15 recently and are looking to customize your home screen experience without relying on the Shortcuts app, then youve come to the right place.

    Some Things To Remember

Aside from the fact that youre customizing the icons for shortcuts rather than the actual apps, there are a few other things worth keeping in mind.

Firstly, if the app whose icon you wanted to change was already on your home screen, it will remain on your home screen after adding a shortcut for it. This means youll effectively have the same app twice on your home screen. As such, you may want to tidy things up by tapping and holding on the actual app and then choosing Remove App from the sub-menu that appears. Next, choose Remove from Home Screen, which will send the app to your App Library. Dont delete it otherwise, your new shortcut wont work.

Secondly, some people have been very inventive in creating new app icons to use via Shortcuts. For example, some have hand-drawn or painted new icons for their apps, photographed their handiwork, and then used these photos as the icons for their new shortcuts. In other words, the skys the limit when it comes to dreaming up new icons for your apps, so dont be afraid to think outside the box.

How To Change App Icons On iPhone

Once you head back to the Home screen, you should see your custom app icon listed within. You can tap it to open the app. But again, you will briefly see the Shortcuts app for a moment before the app opens.

If everything looks good, you can go ahead and hide the original app icon. If you use iOS 14 or later, the easiest way to do that involves tucking it away into the App Library. To do that, long-press or 3D Touch-press the app icon, and then tap Remove App. Follow by tapping Remove From Home Screen or Hide in App Library.

If you use iOS 13 or earlier, you must hide it inside a folder instead. If you dont see a folder within the Home screen, you can build one from scratch. To do that, drag the icon over another.

How To Organize Apps On Home Screens And The Dock

How to Change App Icons in iOS 14 on iPhone and iPad

Even after youve sorted all your apps into handy folders, you could still end up with several screens full of apps. The new iOS App Library in iOS 14 can quickly solve that problem, as described above, but you can still choose to stick with the old folder arrangement to organize folders in a convenient way. On the front screen, you may want to have your most frequently accessed apps, or perhaps the default apps that Apple includes. Alternately, you can just dedicate individual screens or parts of screens to specific app categories. The App Library in iOS 14 can do this for you, but you may want more discretion in how to name your folders and what goes inside them.

Step 1: You can move icons to various positions on the same screen, or move them to a different screen by dragging the icon to the edge so that it moves automatically. When youre moving apps around on the screen, you dont have to do one at a time.

Step 2: You can tap and hold an icon until it wiggles.

    Step 3: Start dragging it.

Step 4: Once you start moving it around, you can tap other apps with another finger to move them all to another screen or folder.

Lets not forget about the dock at the bottom of the phone. Apple places certain apps it thinks most people will always use in the most accessible place, but you can sub out the apps that reside in the dock for any apps you prefer.

Step 6: If there are no dots displayed by the bright dot, you can simply create a new page when you drag an app to the right.

Not just that, but you can also customize the widgets and overall theme of your home screen. This app can be downloaded for free but the feature to customize the app icons needs premium subscription. Here are some salient features of the Launch Center Pro

    • Tons of app icons with different shapes and style.
    • Customize the background and foreground color of the icon as you want.
    • Add photos as app icon. With this feature, you can choose icons you have downloaded from Google.

Apple’s iPhone has always lagged behind Android phones in terms of customizing its home screen, but last year’s release of iOS 14 changed quite a bit. iPhone users now have the ability to create home-screen themes filled with their own unique app icons and widgets.

When paired with custom wallpaper, personalized themes can create quite an aesthetic effect. And with the new Focus Mode in iOS 15, you can design completely unique home screens for different locations or times of the day.

Setting up these custom widgets and app icons requires two iPhone apps — one lesser-known native app and one third-party app that’s free in the App Store. Read on to learn how to customize your home screen on either iOS 14 or iOS 15.

How to Change App Icons on iPhone! (2022 TRICK)

Once you tap “Add,” you can exit the Shortcuts app and your new app icon should display on your home screen.

You can do this as many times as there are apps you would like to redesign. If you’re like me and have more apps than you really use, i would recommend only doing this for the apps you use most often. If you want to delete the icon, press and hold on it, then select “Delete bookmark.”

Each app you redesign will not delete its old icon, so make sure you go back and find the original, remove it from your home screen, which will relegate it to your App Library .

Every time you use your new icon, a banner will appear at the top of your screen announcing the activation of the shortcut you created. It is slightly annoying, but much less noticeable than the previous version, where the Shortcuts app would launch for a second before taking you to the app. And hey, isn’t it worth it for the perfect home screen?
