Release Date: September 16 2016
Just about a year after the release of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Apple once again unleashed a new set of its signature device. At first glance, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus dont appear to be all that different from the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, but there was one major change to the appearance. Apple got rid of the headphone jack. This was the first time in iPhone history that users would have to connect their headphones via BlueTooth, and the company was heavily criticized for this move.
However, most people liked what Apple did with the rest of the phone. For example, this was the first iPhone to be water and dust resistant, and the introduction of iOS 10 made apps such as Maps, Photos, and Music run more smoothly, and it also introduced some new features to Messages, such as special effects for messages.
As for other upgrades, the iPhone 7 received the usual gambit of improvements, such as an improved processor and better battery life. Screen sizes stayed basically the same, as did screen resolution and pixel density. In addition to screen size, the 7 Plus featured two rear cameras to help deliver even better quality images. However, beyond this, the two phones were pretty much the same. Here is a summary of the what was new with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus:
iPhone 7 Water Resistance
The iPhone 7 feel solid, arguably more solid than the previous generation iPhone 6S. This may have something to do with the fact that the phone is now water-resistant, with IP67 water and dust resistance rating. That means the iPhone 7 can last up to 30 minutes fully submerged in 3 feet of water. This doesnt make the phone waterproof, however, so you shouldnt take the iPhone 7 with you into the pool. The IP67 rating is merely a little extra protection to survive drops in the toilet and the like.
iPhone 7 Support End Date: How Many Updates Will iPhone 7 And 7 Plus Get
iPhone 7 was the first truly black iPhone to be released to the public back in 2016. Fitted with the A10 Fusion chip, it offered great performance and battery life when compared to its predecessors. Now that its been 5 years since the phone was released, questions around future support have started to arise. So how long will iOS be supported by Apple? Lets find out!

Generation 1: The iPhone Se
In 2020, Apple also brought back the iPhone SE after a 2-year hiatus. The original iPhone SE came out in 2016 and was a low-cost alternative to the iPhone 7 that came out the same year. The brand was however discontinued in 2018.
When Did the Second iPhone SE Come Out?
Apple revived the name SE and announced the second iPhone SE on April 15, 2020. Pre-orders began on April 17, 2020 and the phone was officially released on April 24, 2020.
new 4.7-inch device that looks like an iPhone 8 with features similar to those of the iPhone 11.
Available in red, black and white, the new iPhone SE has a front and back glass cover and a color matching aluminum frame in the middle. Like its counterpart from 2016, the iPhone SE comes at a budget retail price. The SE is available in three internal memory configurations 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. All iPhone SE versions have 3GB of RAM.
This device is aimed at users who want top-notch performance from an iPhone but feel like the flagship iPhone 12s price is too steep.
Since the iPhone SE is physically identical to the iPhone 8, it continues to feature thick top and bottom bezels. The top bezel accommodates the 7-megapixel front-facing camera and microphone while the bottom bezel includes a Touch ID Home button thats also a fingerprint reader.
For the operating system, the iPhone SE originally ran on iOS 13 but later on, Apple upgraded it to the new iOS 14. Software is powered by the same A13 Bionic chip that was used on the iPhone 11.
Home Button And New Taptic Engine
The iPhone 7 home button is also no longer a physical button, thats to say it doesnt actually move. Instead, the iPhone uses a second-generation Taptic Engine to simulate a button click. This also makes the iPhone 7 capable of producing much more precise feedback, simulating clicks when using features like 3D Touch. It may not sound like much, but its really something that needs to be felt firsthand to truly appreciate.
The fingerprint sensor is also so incredibly quick, it unlocks the phone the moment you place your finger over the sensor. This makes Touch ID a joy to use and is a feature sorely missed on newer iPhones.

iPhone 3gs Carriers And Countries
At this point in iPhone history, the iPhone was still only available on AT& T in the United States. Abroad, it was carried by a number of different companies, such as Vodafone, TMobile, O2, Airtel, Movistar, and many more.
With the release of the iPhone 3GS, Apple also expanded the number of countries in which the phone was available, in addition to the countries that were introduced to the iPhone with the release of the 3G, people in the following countries were able to purchase this revolutionary device starting in 2009:
- United Arab Emirates
Between the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3Gs, Steve Jobs and co. managed to achieve their goal of making the iPhone a truly global device. There are a few notable countries missing from this list, the most prominent being China. But considering the political climate in China and the relative difficulty U.S. companies have selling their products there, this shouldnt come as much of a surprise. But the size and the buying power of the Chinese market has always been too much for a company such as Apple to resist. However, it would be some time before the history of the iPhone would begin in the worlds most populous country. Nevertheless, by the end of 2009, there were iPhones in almost every corner of the globe.

The Most Important iPhone Lifespan Factor: Software Updates
Technically, as long as your iPhone turns on and functions, it’s within its lifespan. But practically, there are a few ways to determine if your iPhone is still within its useful life chief among them is how long it receives iOS and security updates from Apple.
Every eligible iPhone gets software updates shortly after they become available, whether it’s a major revision, like iOS 15, or a minor release to fix bugs, like iOS 15.0.1. Installing these not only brings new features to your iPhone, but also patches security issues to keep your device secure.
Over time, Apple drops support for older iPhone models. Spending time to make sure a new release works on an aging device that few people use isn’t worth it for any company. Plus, the weaker hardware of older iPhone models can’t keep up with the requirements of newer iOS versions.
Apple uses the “vintage” and “obsolete” labels for its older devices. An Apple device is considered obsolete when the company stopped distributing it for sale over seven years agonote that this is not the same as its initial release date.
At this point, Apple does not offer hardware support or the device, and service providers can’t order parts for them. As of this writing, the iPhone 4S and older are considered obsolete.
Use Siri To Identify Song Names
Siri can be a bit of a know-it-all, so use that to your advantage. She has the ability to tell you the name of a song just by listening to it.
When youre listening to a song, and you need to know what its called and who its by, press the Home button and ask Siri to identify it.
Siri will then tell you the details, and even make it easy for you to download the song via iTunes.
