How long can you expect your Apple iPhone, iPad, or Mac to live? If a recent analysis from Asymco is to be believed, the average lifespan of all Apple products on the market between 2013 and today is four years and three months.

Asymco mobile analyst Horace Dediu created a formula for device lifespan based on the number of devices sold versus the number of active devices in use.

iPhone 6 And iPhone 6s

Average battery life: About 7 to 14 hours for both phones.

In 2014, Apple introduced a 1810 mAh battery for the iPhone 6. Tomâs Guide found that the phone only lasted 7 hours and 25 minutes with continuous use, but at Trusted Reviews, tester Evan Kypreos had better results: his iPhone 6 lasted 14 hours when in heavy usage , and up to 35 hours when not being used at all.

The iPhone 6s fared worse, due to its smaller, 1715 mAH battery. Although it seemed to be a downgrade, Engadget stated the smaller battery was to make room for the new 3D Touch hardware on this model. Apple claimed the 6s was more energy efficient and would offer the same battery life as the 6, but Trusted Reviews did not find that to be the case, reporting the 6s having 5% less battery capacity than the 6.

iPhone X: Order Information

The iPhone X is now available for purchase, but you may not get one right away. As of this writing, if you go to Apple.com and order an iPhone X, the company says the phone will ship in about a week. Apple has said demand for iPhone X has been off the charts, but hasnt released any specific pre-order numbers.

For the first time in the history of the iPhone, Apple chose not to release an S version of their previous iPhone. Instead, they skipped right to the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. However, if youve been paying attention to the last few chapters of iPhone history, youve likely noticed that the previous versions offered little in terms of radically new features. Instead, Apple chose to simply install faster processors and better cameras, as these were the things the public demanded. With the iPhone 8, things were not much different.

However, Apple did introduce one new thing with the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus: inductive charging, which is often referred to more commonly as wireless charging. This feature allows the iPhone to be charged without being plugged in, although you need a special device to make this work.

The only other major novelty to come with the iPhone 8 was an improved processor. This new version of the phone has an Apple A11 quad-core, 64-bit, 2.4 Ghz processor with 2GB RAM The motion coprocessor was improved to an M11, and the camera lens was also upgraded slightly. Furthermore, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus came with the newest version of Apples operating system, iOS 12, and there were two choices in terms of internal memory: 64GB and 256 GB. Average battery life: About 10 to 17 hours for all phones.

The iPhone X, out in 2017, contained a 2716 mAh battery that Apple claimed would allow the phone to last two hours longer than the 7. Trusted Reviews found this to be true, praising the fact that the phone wonât hit âredâ before the workday ends after regular use. Tech Radar managed to run the phone down after 12 hours of heavy use, concluding that while the iPhone Xâs battery life âisnât mind-blowing, itâs certainly better than some iPhones of old â itâs more than acceptable.â Tomâs Guide found significantly less impressive results from their rigorous testing, with the Xâs battery lasting just short of 10 hours.

The XS Max fared no better with its larger, 3174 mAh battery lasting only 10 hours and 38 minutes. However, Trusted Reviews kept the XS Max lasting throughout the day after normal, heavy usage, and Tech Radar had a similar conclusion, stating that the phone lasted on a single, full charge from 7 a.m. to midnight with moderate to heavy use.

2018âs iPhone XR impressed Tech Radar, who declared this model to have âthe best battery life of any phone from .â Coming into the X series with a 2942 mAh battery, smaller than the XS, the phoneâs energy efficiency kept it from burning too much battery life all at once. Tech Radar managed to keep an iPhone XR going from 5:30 a.m/ to 11:00 p.m. with still some charge left to spare.

iPhone X Price And Release Date

Its almost pointless to discuss the iPhone X price it launched as the most expensive flagship phone on the market and it’s still pricey now, but iPhone users are more willing than most to look past cost.

But, while the focus here is going to be on the technology, we still need to at least mention the price and release date. It’s out now, having launched worldwide on November 3 2017. The price is harder to swallow.

At launch, the iPhone X cost $999 / £999 / AU$1,579 for the basic, 64GB model. If you wanted the larger 256GB model it cost $1,149 / £1,149 / AU$1,829.

Since then of course the iPhone XS has launched and as a result Apple has stopped selling the iPhone X. You can still buy it elsewhere though, and are looking at much more significant price drops in the years since it launched.

iPhone 11 Ios Support How Long Will It Get Updates

Like the iPhone 12, Apples iPhone 11 range is still relatively new. This means if you bought any of the iPhone 11 models in 2021 or 2022, youll likely get iOS support well into the late-2020s, most likely around 2027 or 2028.

This makes the iPhone 11 any of them, really a great option for Apple fans that want to pick up a cheaper iPhone in 2021 or 2022. The iPhone 11 does not have support for 5G, however, so it is not quite a future-proofed as the iPhone 12.

If youre not fussed about having 5G, the iPhone 11 Pro Max is now less than $500. Keep in mind that when the iPhone 11 Pro Max first launched it cost over double that much around $1100. Its still a killer phone, so if youre not bothered about 5G, this is the one to go for.

iPhone Xs And Xs Max Improvements And Upgrades

Although Apple put quite a bit of work into making the XS and XS Max seem significantly different than the iPhone X, in reality, the phones are very similar. The X and the XS are almost identical in size, except the XS weighs .01 ounces less. The XS Max, by design, is larger. It has a 6.5 inch/16.5cm screen as compared to 5.8 inches/14.7, and it weighs about an ounce more than the iPhone XS.

Both phones got an upgraded camera, largely with improved HDR and image stabilization technology, and although the front-facing camera remained the same, Apple updated the technology to make sure Face ID works more quickly.

Probably the most significant upgrade is in the processor. Apple improved upon its A11 processor and put an A12 processor with six cores in the iPhone XS and XS Max. It has 4GB of RAM and is capable of speeds up to 2.49 GHz, and it comes preloaded with iOS 12

Both the XS and XS Max are available in 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB models, and prices range from $999-$1349. Lastly, battery life was slightly improved. With the XS and XS Max, you get:

Face Id Security And Privacy

Because Face ID takes a detailed 3D facial scan, it’s unable to be fooled by a photo, a mask, or other facial imitation, and there’s also an “attention aware” security feature. Face ID only unlocks your device when you look in the direction of the iPhone X with your eyes open, meaning Face ID knows not to work unless there’s a live person in front of it.

Face ID won’t work when your eyes are closed, when you’re sleeping, when you’re unconscious, or when you’re looking away from your phone.

Attention aware is optional and there is an accessibility feature to turn it off for those who are unable to focus on the iPhone’s screen, but most people will want to leave it turned on for the added layer of security.

With the “attention aware” feature, the iPhone X knows when you’re looking at it. Face ID displays notifications and messages on the Lock screen when you look at the iPhone X, it keeps the screen lit, and it automatically lowers the volume of an alarm or ringer when it knows your attention is on the iPhone X’s display.

If a thief demands your iPhone, Face ID can be disabled quickly and discretely by pressing on the side button and the volume button at the same time. Do this before handing your phone over, and a thief won’t be able to scan your face. Face ID also turns off after two failed facial recognition attempts and a passcode needs to be entered for it to be turned back on.

Generation 1: iPhone 11 Pro And iPhone 11 Pro Max

In addition to the iPhone 11, Apple also announced on September 10, 2019, the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Like the iPhone 11, this iPhone has an updated processor and a longer battery life, although the iPhone Pro and Pro Max are designed to last an additional four hours and five hours more than the iPhone XS and XS Max respectively.

Like the XS and XS Max, the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max have an OLED Super Retina display whereas the basic iPhone 11 has an LCD Liquid Crystal display that has less resolution.

However, hands-down the biggest difference between the iPhone Pro/Pro Max and the iPhone 11 is the camera. For the first time in iPhone history, an iPhone will have three cameras on the back of it, one of which is a telephoto lens and one of which is an ultra-wide-angle.

This just shows how much Apple understands the importance of a good camera in a phone. We live in an Instagram era, folks.

But this camera is for more than just social media. Its designed to help people take professional-grade photos an videos with their phones, and specific apps will be released to help people do this. One example presented by Apple is deep fusion, which actually takes nine photos using the three lenses almost at once, and then it processes these images to find the best version of your subject. Without a home button for Touch ID, how does one unlock the iPhone X? With your face! Face ID uses a TrueDepth camera-and-sensor system along the top edge of the iPhone X to detect your face quickly, even in the darkand even with glasses on, or after a dramatic haircut.

Face ID uses more points of comparison than Touch ID, and the iPhone X uses depth-sensing so you shouldnt be able to fool the system with a photograph or even a high-quality mask. You have to actually look at the iPhone tooif your eyes are closed or youre looking away, it wont work. So, no, your kids cant unlock your iPhone while youre asleep. The dot projector helps create a mathematical model of your face and compare it to the stored model. A machine-learning neural engine is even built into the iPhone Xs A11 Bionic chip to process FaceID in real time, right on the device. But because Touch ID has gotten so fast, Apple really has a high bar to clear with Face ID.
