How to SAVE Photos from Apple iPhone to Windows 10 PC

Running out of space on your phone? There’s a hassle-free way to preserve precious photos before deleting them.

How many photos do you have in your phone? Hundreds? Thousands, even? I bet you’d hate to lose them. And yet phones get lost, stolen and broken every day. Are you playing it safe?

Apple’s iCloud affords a backup of sorts, but doesn’t really give you a way to access your photos via anything except other iDevices. What’s more, if you delete some photos from your iPhone in order to free up storage, those photos get deleted from your iCloud account as well.

Wait, so iCloud doesn’t technically back up your photo library? According to Apple’s overview page: “If you turn on iCloud Photo Library, your photos and videos are already stored in iCloud, so they aren’t included in your iCloud backup.” I’m pretty adept at all things iPhone, but the vagaries of iCloud? Umm…

Update:I goofed. Apple recently added Photo Library to iCloud.com, so you can indeed manage your photos that way. But your free storage is capped at 5GB, and I still find it unclear whether this is straight-up synchronization — meaning anything deleted from your device is deleted from iCloud as well — or a more traditional backup.

What Happened To The My Photo Stream Album

When you turn on iCloud Photos, photos from My Photo Stream that are in your My Photo Stream album but not saved to your library are removed. After you turn on iCloud Photos, you won’t see a separate My Photo Stream album.

If you have an additional device with My Photo Stream turned on and iCloud Photos turned off, you’ll still see a My Photo Stream album on that device. Any new photos that you take or add to your library show in that album on that device.

Section 3 Backup Photos From iPhone To Icloud Backup

iCloud would save most of the necessary data when you backup iPhone with iCloud. If iPhone says there is no enough iCloud storage, you should reduce the content by entering iCloud > Manage Storage > Backups > . You could if you just need the photos later. You should know that if you have already enabled iCloud photos in method 1, these photos would not be saved to this iCloud backup again.

Similar to iCloud Photos, the automatic photo upload services like Google Photos, Dropbox, and Microsoft OneDrive diligently serve for an intermediary to move iPhone photos to a PC. It’s a simple matter of uploading picture files over to the online server, and downloading them to your computer’s hard drive as needed.

Keep in mind that each online service offers limited free storage for image backup. So if you have a strove of photos on iPhone to upload, make sure you have enough space.

Emailing photos to yourself is also a good option to export photos from an iPhone. You can send yourself an image to Windows PC via iPhone Mail app. Once the image is sent, open your email account on your computer and save it to desktop. Multiple pictures can be inserted in one email message for sharing.
