We won’t find out exactly what the iPhone 14 will look like until much closer to launch.

And even then, we could still be a little in the dark some iPhone news is always a surprise on the night.

But we’re already hearing trickles of information about the mystery mobile.

Famed Apple analyst Ming-chi Kuo has said the high-end iPhones in the 2022 range will use a 48-megapixel sensor for the main camera.

According to Mac Rumours, Kuo thinks this will allow impressive 8K video capture.

The analyst also thinks the notch on the front screen of iPhones will get smaller and by 2023 it may have disappeared.

The selfie camera, necessary for Face ID, may be hidden under the screen.

Another of Kuo’s theories is that screen size options of the iPhone lineup will decrease by 2022.

We might not see an iPhone Mini offering as we have done in previous years.

Apple isn’t thought to be impressed with how well the Mini range is selling but may still include a version in its 2021 iPhone lineup.

It’s thought the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen sizes are here to stay for the foreseeable future.

Kuo has previously suggested that we may see under-display fingerprint scanners in future iPhones.

We know some things about the new iPhone for sure.

For starters, it’ll almost certainly support 5G.

And we’ll probably get a new A-series chip built by Apple, offering a performance boost just like with every previous iPhone generation.

iPhone 13 Review: Battery Life And Charging

• 10 hours and 33 minutes of battery life, which is 2 hours better than iPhone 12

Apple says that the iPhone 13 lasts up to 1.5 hours longer than the iPhone 12, thanks to a bigger battery, more efficient display and the A15 Bionic chip. But our testing showed even better results.

On the Toms Guide battery test, which involves continuous web surfing over 5G at 150 nits of screen brightness over cellular , the iPhone 13 endured for 10 hours and 33 minutes. Thats more than 2 hours longer than the 8:25 time that the iPhone 12 turned in. The best result we saw from the Galaxy S21 was 9:53.

Unfortunately, the iPhone 13 offers the same charging speeds as before. The new iPhone got to 51% capacity in 30 minutes with Apples 20W charger. Other phones on our fastest charging phones list are much speedier, such as the OnePlus 9 Pro.

The iPhones 15W MagSafe charger is a bit slower, but some may find it more convenient because its magnetic and doesnt involve the Lighting port.

iPhone 14 Price How Much Will The New iPhone Cost

Apple has stayed fairly consistent with iPhone pricing in recent years.

In the US it’s stayed flat, while Brits have enjoyed small discounts on some models.

iPhone 13 Design And Display

With an IP68 rating, all the new iPhone 13 models are water and dust resistant. This matches up with what weve come to expect from the iPhone 12, which also had the same protection. While the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini have a new smaller notch, their screen sizes remain the same as on the iPhone 12 models.

The iPhone 13 mini features a 5.4-inch Super Retina display, while the screen on the standard iPhone 13 is 6.1 inches. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max come with display sizes of 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches, respectively.

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini are in five colours: pink, blue, midnight , starlight and Product . The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max are available in a range of four new colours, including Sierra Blue, gold, graphite and silver.

How Many Cameras Does The iPhone 13 Have

The iPhone 13 and 13 Mini get an updated camera system, which is apparent from the new diagonal orientation of the two rear cameras. In fact, Apple says the new orientation is a result of making more room for a new sensor-based stabilization system — which previously was only on the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

All four models get an improved 12-megapixel main camera and a better ultrawide lens and sensor. The new hardware, along with the new A15 Bionic chip, means a handful of improvements and new features, including being able to capture 47% more light.

The iPhone 13 Pro also has a new triple-camera system with better lenses and sensors. The telephoto lens comes with 3x optical zoom, which is 1.5x longer than the camera on the iPhone 12 Pro and 1.2x longer than the tele lens on the 12 Pro Max. To put things in perspective, this is an enormous improvement for the iPhone, but it still pales in comparison to the telephoto cameras on the Galaxy S21 Ultra and phones from Huawei.

A Radical New Design For The iPhone 14

In terms of design, the evidence is piling up that Apple is working on something very radical: more radical indeed than the iPhone X. An embryonic clamshell design currently known as the iPhone Flip is in development at Apple HQ.

Prolific leaker Jon Prosser says it’s reminiscent of the Galaxy Z Flip, and will come in “fun colours”. But he also warns that it won’t launch in 2022, ruling out the iPhone 14. The analysis company Omdia has also predicted that Apple will launch two foldable iPhone models in 2023. Catch up on the latest rumours in our foldable iPhone news hub.

So it looks likely that the square-edged design of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 may remain for another generation at least.

The First Portless iPhone

One of the rumours that seems to be picking up traction is that Apple will ditch the Lightning port on the iPhone 14 and feature no ports at all. This has been rumoured since before the iPhone 12 was launched, but it could be made a reality due to pressure from the EU or just for Apple to create more space inside its iPhones.

Rather than rely on cables for charging, all power will be delivered wirelessly. This would instantly render many accessories and power banks redundant, but Apple has never been shy about making unpopular decisions in the past.

There’s also an interesting sidebar to this issue, which is that the EU has been on the warpath for a while about proprietary charging standards, and it looks like a draft law forcibly standardising smartphone ports will happen in 2021. This came a step closer in September 2021, when the EU Commission presented a bill to unify charging cables.

In theory this could oblige Apple to produce a USB-C iPhone for sale in Europe – and even more theoretically, could encourage it to base all its new iPhones on USB-C so as to avoid the production inefficiency of making more than one design. But it’s hard to see a company as large and powerful as Apple bowing to mid-level political pressure in this way.

Our suspicion is that the portless iPhone, discussed by fans for so long, will not become a reality for some time yet. One day it will happen, but we doubt that day will be in 2022.

iPhone 13 Known Problems

Thus far iPhone 13 owners have encountered a few problems. For example, some iPhone 13 users are finding that the phone won’t unlock with an Apple Watch, though a fix apparently is on the way. In addition, some iPhone 13 owners are complaining about the touch display not being responsive enough in some cases, which could be an iOS 15 issue.

On the iPhone 13 Pros, there are complaints that the cameras are automatically switching between lenses without warning, and Apple will be rolling out an update that will enable users to turn this off. And the ProMotion displays on the iPhone 13 Pros are not running at 120Hz with some apps, which Apple will be addressing in an update. And developers need to optimize their apps as well.

iPhone 1: Rumors And Launch Date

True to form, Apple has thus far stayed mum on when we might expect the iPhone 13 to make its debut. But the rumor mill is that The Fruit will continue the 4-model suite offering that it introduced in 2020, to include an iPhone 13 mini, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max in addition to the base model iPhone 13.

Based on past years, we expect to see the iPhone 13 announcement sometime in September 2021, with preorders through major carriers beginning within a few days to a week afterward. In fact, recent leaks have narrowed down the iPhone 13 release date to September 14, 2021.

For now, Apple aficionados have the iPhone 12 series to enjoy: the four new versions of the iPhone 12 improve on previous iPhone models in every conceivable way, from their attractive and durable designs to their next-level photo and video-taking capabilities. It’s fair to say that the iPhone 12 is an instant “best-in-class” device.

An Oled Screen With A Higher Resolution

The iPhone SE has an IPS LCD screen with a 750 x 1334 resolution, neither of which are exactly cutting edge.

Now, there are of course limits to what can be done with a mid-range phone, but when you consider that the similarly priced OnePlus Nord and both manage a higher resolution and OLED technology , its hard to see how Apple could justify omitting these things from the next iPhone SE model.

That said, we wouldnt count on getting either Apple rarely competes with Android phones on pure specs.

iPhone Se 3 Release Date And Price

We thought the iPhone SE 3 might land at Apple’s Spring Loaded event in April – after all, that would be a year after the iPhone SE launched, but it was no-show.

We’re not too surprised though, as we’ve previously seen a couple of leaks and rumors suggesting that there wont be an iPhone SE 3 this year, perhaps to give the iPhone 13 mini more time in the spotlight, so we might be waiting a long time for the phone if we get it at all.

If that’s the case though then there may well be one in 2022 at least, because it’s also rumored that there won’t be an iPhone 14 mini – meaning Apple might rely on the SE line for fans of smaller phones. At this point, several rumors point to a 2022 release, with sources suggesting the phone will land in the first half of the year.

And theres also the iPhone SE Plus to consider. This was rumored to land sometime after the iPhone SE , and while we havent heard much about it lately, Ming-Chi Kuo claimed back in April 2020 that the iPhone SE Plus might not land until the second half of 2021.

So this might land instead of the iPhone SE 3 or maybe well get an iPhone SE 3 and an iPhone SE 3 Plus. It’s hard to say at this point.

As for the price, theres no news there, but the iPhone SE starts at $399 / £419 / AU$749, so the iPhone SE 3 is likely to have a similar price if not perhaps slightly higher.

September : Apple iPhone 14 Leaks Before iPhone 13 Even Gets Announced

Jon Prosser of FrontPageTech presented a video with some renders of what is claimed to be the iPhone 14 Pro in association with Renders by Ian. The images show a flat-edge design similar to what the iPhone 13 models offer, but with circular volume buttons.

There are three camera lenses on the rear – like the current Pro models – though the renders show the lenses almost flat to the surface and without the square camera housing surrounding them. Prosser says the device will be titanium and the renders also show a punch hole front camera.

iPhone 13 Design And Size

In terms of design, the 2021 iPhone lineup looks nearly identical to the existing iPhone 12, though slightly thicker and heavier to accommodate larger batteries. Apple has also shrunken the size of the notch by 20% in terms of width.

While the iPhone 12 mini has reportedly experienced weaker-than-expected demand than Apple had expected, the form factor sticks around for another year, with Apple officially introducing the iPhone 13 mini.

Design Rumors: iPhone 14 Might Be Notchless At Last

YouTuber and iPhone leaker Jon Prosser made waves the week before the iPhone 13 announcement by releasing renders he commissioned of the iPhone 14 Pro Max based on “real images and schematics” leaked to him from purported sources at Apple.

Prosser’s renders corroborate a number of previously reported rumors, including the notchless display and hole-punch camera previously reported by Kuo, and the iPhone 14 Pro’s titanium alloy chassis, which was first referenced in a July report from JPMorgan Chase. We’d been expecting to see the iPhone 13 go notchless, but instead we got a slimmed-down, but still very notchy, notch. Apple introduced the world to the notched display in 2017 with the release of the iPhone X, and as rivals solved the selfie conundrum with hole-punch and under-display cameras, Apple still hasn’t, er, taken it down a notch.

But Prosser’s renders seem to corroborate these earlier reports that Apple would finally excise the iPhone’s notch in 2022. And Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also hinted at its removal in a September edition of his Power On newsletter, wherein he predicted a “complete redesign” for the iPhone 14. Those who’ve been crossing their fingers for a notchless iPhone since the iPhone 12 and had their hopes dashed once again by the iPhone 13 can now look forward to a potential realization of their all-screen dreams in 2022’s iPhone 14.

What Not To Expect At The Apple iPhone 13 Event

There are a couple of updates to popular Apple ranges that appear imminent but dont look set to show up at Tuesday’s iPhone 13 event. Then, there’s a line that should be due over the next few months but almost certainly will be completely absent this September. Here’s what you shouldn’t expect on September 14.

New iPad models fall into the former category. New entry-level tablets from Apple should drop very soon, with spotting the current iPads are now currently unavailable to order on the US store. Some less well-known sources on the subject of Apple have reported a new 10.5in iPad could crop up on September 14 reported by MacRumors. However, Gurman has disputed this earmarking tonight’s event as just for iPhone/Watch.”

The previous update to the regular iPad was simply a boost to the processor inside but, this time, the iPad looks set to be slimmed down as well reports Gurman. A thinner design and faster processor still might not be enough to tempt many who may have been hoping for a more significant redesign.

For such a shake-up, we can look to the impending arrival of a new and completely redesigned iPad Mini its aggressively chunky bezels will be slimmed down and a faster chip will be added too. No word on if either of these new models will adopt the much more vibrant colour options afforded to the latest iPad Air and iMac models.
