The Pegasus Hacks Targeting iPhones
Security and privacy have been core features of Apple products for years. The company has always explained why it thinks security and privacy are essential iPhone and Mac features, turning them into marketing weapons as well. This didnt stop security researchers from looking for weaknesses that they could exploit to hack iPhone and Mac devices. If anything, Apples increased focus on data security turned the hunt for iOS exploits into a very lucrative business.
Earlier this year, the Pegasus hacks made the news. Reports explained that the Israeli NSO Group developed the Pegasus hacks for law enforcement agencies. The company developed the tools to allow governments to spy on targets using Apple devices like iPhone and Macs. The sophisticated Pegasus attacks also avoid detection. They help attackers spy on a target and need only a single message to be deployed.
The iOS 14.8 release is a security update that patches a Pegasus vulnerability. While Apple did not name the exploit in its documentation, the company confirmed to The Washington Post that the iOS 14.8 release is in response to the newly found Pegasus hack.
Separately, Citizen Lab researchers published a blog post on Monday explaining a new hack called FORCEDENTRY. The researchers explained that iOS 14.8 patches the vulnerability, ensuring attackers cant spy on targets using this Pegasus attack.

Apple said the new operating system will be available Sept. 20, days before the Sept. 24 launch of the new iPhone 13 devices. Last year, iOS 14 was available on Sept. 16. But 2020 was an odd year , and Apple launched the iPhone 12 in October.

Facetime Calls With Android And Windows Devices
With the update to FaceTime, you get a grid view to see everyone on a FaceTime call, the option to take calls in Portrait Mode, and you can participate in a FaceTime call through an Android or Windows device.
Apple said users with non-Apple devices can “join using the latest version of Chrome or Edge.”
But don’t get too excited: You need to know someone with an iPhone who can start the call and send you a link to join.
Ios : Security Fix And New Features
The latest operating software update is only meant to fix the security flaw that the Pegasus spyware could exploit — it doesn’t bring any new features to your iPhone.
Pegasus was created by Israel-based cybersecurity company NSO Group, with the intention of helping governments pursue criminals and terrorists, CNET’s Stephen Shankland reported. But in July, researchers found evidence of attempted or successful installations of Pegasus on 37 phones of activists, journalists and businesspeople — and all but three of the devices were iPhones. It’s another example of how vulnerable we can be to digital spying, even with security protections in place.
Again, it’s unlikely that your iPhone would be targeted by Pegasus, particularly with the iOS 14.8 patch, but you can check to make sure here.
