Portrait Lighting, also available on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, is an option Apple has added to its existing background-blurring Portrait Mode photos. It uses the dual-lens depth-sensing camera and machine learning to simulate a range of lighting effects: Contour Light, Natural Light, Stage Light, Stage Light Mono, and Studio Light.

Price: iPhone 13 Could Cost More Than iPhone 12
Apple’s iPhone 12 lineup included four phones at four prices, with even more variation among carriers and storage configurations. At launch, the baseline iPhone 12 carrier model cost $799, an increase of $100 from 2019’s iPhone 11, largely due to the addition of 5G support.;

iPhone 13 May Nix The Chunky Notch
Apple introduced the world to the notched display in 2017 with the release of the iPhone X, and as rivals solved the selfie conundrum with hole-punch and under-display cameras, Apple still hasn’t, er, taken it down a notch. Those who crossed their fingers for a notchless or at least smaller-notched iPhone 12 are reassigning their hopes to the iPhone 13 now that their 2020 all-screen dreams have failed to come to fruition.
Rumors of a smaller notch resurfaced in early March in an investors’ note from Kuo. In its leaked dummy mockup, Macotakara estimated that the iPhone 13’s notch could shrink to 26.8mm wide , while becoming ever-so slightly taller, at 5.35mm, compared to the iPhone 12’s 5.3mm notch height.
We may have got a glimpse of a notchless iPhone;during episode 6 of Ted Lasso season 2. In two scenes of the episode, we see a notchless iPhone that appears to be running iOS. But, we shouldn’t get our hopes up too much. A rumor from Chinese social media platform Weibo in early June suggested that the;iPhone 13 lineup will feature larger batteries than the iPhone 12 lineup. The specs,;, claim a 2,406-mAh battery for the iPhone 13 Mini, going up to 3,095 mAh for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro, and 4,325 mAh for the iPhone 13 Pro Max.;

However, battery life is not the same as battery capacity, so it’s possible that the increase in iPhone 13’s battery size will not translate into a longer battery life. Apps Reverting To Defaults
A few days after the arrival of iOS 14 users were complaining of a bug that could revert apps to their defaults.
Prior to iOS 14 it wasn’t possible to choose which browser would be your default, if you clicked a link it would automatically open in Safari. As of iOS 14 it is now possible to set different default apps, alternatives to Safari and Mail can be used instead.
However, it’s emerged that should you select a different browser or email app if the iPhone is shutdown once it restarts it will have defaulted back to the old default apps.
Apple’s fixed this bug in iOS 14.0.1. However, by iOS 14.1 it became apparent that there was still a problem with the function. It appears that default apps setting will be reset if your app is updated. For example, if a software update for Gmail is installed Gmail will no longer be your default email app and the system will default back to Apple Mail. iPhone 13 Touch Id Or Face Id
One leak has suggested the company may finally be ready to introduce an under-display fingerprint scanner. A lot of the best Android phones include this technology already, and this leak suggests Apple is ready to follow suit. In fact, we’ve now heard talk of an in-screen scanner multiple times at this point, with Apple apparently considering it in addition to Face ID.;
This isn’t a certainty, though, as noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests the feature is coming in some 2022 iPhones aka the iPhone 14 and will presumably skip the iPhone 13 line.
We’ve even now heard from Mark Gurman that Apple probably won’t bring under-display Touch ID to any iPhone, and will instead opt for under-display Face ID – though don’t expect this to be ready in time for the iPhone 13 range.
What might be ready for the iPhone 13 range is a form of Face ID that works with masks and foggy glasses, as Apple is supposedly testing this, but we wouldn’t count on seeing it that soon if at all.
Elsewhere, an iOS 15 leak suggests the company’s next major software update will arrive with support for dual biometric authentication a feature which would only be possible to implement on a device with both Face ID and Touch ID.;Still, we wouldn’t count on this.

With the Apple Watch 7’s release date now coming into focus, we can turn our attention to highlighting ;some features we’d like to see.
Better battery life: Patently Apple;has found evidence of Apple researching a way to increase the battery life of its wearables. The “Battery Watch Band” could improve battery capacity without having to increase the size of the Watch itself.;
We’re accustomed to the 18-24 hour stamina of current models, but we’d welcome an Apple Watch that can last longer between charges.
Blood pressure monitoring: There are a few reasons why blood pressure monitoring could come to Apple Watch next year. First, it’s a viable candidate for the company’s informally annual health feature upgrade. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 has a sensor for blood pressure monitoring, so there’s already a template that Apple can follow.;
But it seems the company has a proprietary approach in mind. A;patent filing;recently won by Apple gives it a leg up in health tracking with built-in blood pressure monitoring that incorporates correction factors. For comparison, Samsung’s blood pressure monitoring requires monthly calibration, which can be cumbersome.
Mental health tools: When the Fitbit Sense unveiled a slew of stress management tools, we hoped Apple would follow up with similar features for Apple Watch 6. They didn’t come to fruition.

What Will The Next iPhone Be Called
iPhone 13 still seems the most likely branding, particularly after the theory was backed up by a July report from Economic Daily News. “The supply chain has reported that this year’s new phone will be named iPhone 13,” the site says.
Further evidence of this came in late August when Twitter user DuanRui shared an iPhone 13 sticker, which he said he believed to be “relatively reliable”.

Face Id That Works With Masks
A more likely solution is that Apple will focus on a way to make Face ID work better with masks.
According Jon Prosser, writing on Front Page Tech on 25 August 2021, Apple is working on a new form of Face ID, which should allow users to unlock the iPhone 13 even if they are wearing a protective mask.
According to Prosser, the updated Face ID planned for the iPhone 13 is undergoing testing via a prototype attached to the iPhone 12. “This prototype case allows the iPhone 12, to bypass the regular Face ID and use the new hardware within the case instead.”
