Find My iPhone App – How to use the Find My iPhone App on the iPad iOS 6 – MacHelpers

Do you find yourself asking, where is my missing app? If you’re trying to find an app you suspect is buried in an app folder on your iPhone, the easiest way to find missing apps is to search the App Store. See the ask Siri method below if you are trying to identify the folder where the app is located instead.

  • Open the App Store.;
  • On the bottom menu,;choose Search. iPhone 6 and earlier: Open the App Store app and tap on;the Search tab.;
  • Next, type the name of your missing app into the search bar.;
  • Now, tap Search and your app will appear!;
  • The advantage of this method is that your app will either show Open, indicating that it is still installed on your phone, or there will be a download icon indicating that somehow the app was deleted from your phone and needs to be reinstalled. If the download icon appears, download the app again and see if it appears on the Home screen as it used to.;

    If Open appears, you can tap it to access your app immediately, and then go through your folders later and move the app back to a more visible place, so you don’t have to repeat this search procedure every time you need your app.

    How Do I Change The App Library Folders

    Your iPhone automatically chooses where to put apps in the App Library; unfortunately, there’s no way to change them. This can be frustrating if you disagree with the folder your iPhone uses for certain apps, which is pretty common!

    For example, my iPhone puts IMDb in the Entertainment folder, but I feel it belongs in the Information & Reading folder.

    You can’t change or rename the folders in the App Library. All you can do is learn where your iPhone chooses to save apps. Understandably, a lot of users find this more hassle than it’s worth. If you feel the same, we suggest creating your own set of folders on a spare Home Screen, which you can configure however you like.

    Hiding A Home Screen Page Will Stop Showing New Apps

    Hiding a home screen page has consequences you may not have noticed. When you first hide a page or number of pages, it will automatically set new app downloads to appear only in the App Library, not the home screen. So if you don’t remember setting new app downloads to work that way, you may have accidentally triggered it after hiding a home screen page.

    How To Set App Downloads To Only Appear In The App Library

  • Open Settings on your iPhone.
  • Tap Home Screens.

  • Tap App Library only to keep new apps off of your Home screen.
  • Tap the Show in App Library switch on or off to control whether or not notification badges show up in the App Library.

    How Do I Unhide Hidden Apps

    If you know there’s an app on your iPhone, but you can’t find it, it could be hidden in your App Library. And if you access the app often, you may want to add it back to your home screen. There’s a straightforward way to do that.

  • Open the App Library on your iPhone. In most cases, you can swipe from right to left until you enter the App Library. It might be a few screens over, so keep swiping until App Library shows up.

  • Using the search bar at the top of the screen, enter the name of the app you’re searching for.

    Don’t remember the exact name of the app you want? Not a problem. You can type one or two letters of the name and then look through all the results that appear until you find what you’re looking for.

  • When the search results appear, tap and hold the name of the app you want. If it doesn’t automatically move to your home screen, slide your finger to the left without releasing the app to move it to your home screen.

    There are over 1.5 million apps in the App Store, and not all of them are kept up-to-date. The software code that runs iPhone apps changes every time Apple releases a new version of iOS. Usually the changes arent too drastic, but if an app hasnt been updated in years, theres a good chance its incompatible with your version of iOS.

    If you recently upgraded to a new version of iOS, especially if it was a major upgrade, like going from iOS 13 to iOS 14 , this may explain why your app wont open.

    To find out;when an app was last updated, open;the;App Store on your iPhone. Search for the app and tap;Version;History to see when the apps update history.

    Another way to test for this;is to ask;a friend with the same model iPhone and iOS version to download and open;the app. If the app works;on their iPhone, we know theres a software problem with yours. If the app doesnt open;on their iPhone, theres;a problem with the app itself.

    Unfortunately, if an app is too old to run on a newer version of iOS, theres nothing you can do to make it work. Your best bet is to contact the app developer and ask if theyre planning to release an updated version. If I were in their position, Id be grateful;someone let me know;about the problem.

    Why Wont My iPhone Apps Open

    Your iPhone apps wont open;because your iPhone has a software problem. When an app crashes, it usually doesnt take the whole iPhone;with it. Instead, you end up back on the Home screen, and the app terminates in the background. Most of the time, thats enough to fix a software bug but not always.

    Apps dont exist in a vacuum, either. In my experience, iPhone apps usually wont open because of a problem with the iPhone operating system , not a problem with the app itself.

    How To Find A Missing App In Ios 11

    Ive never been a huge fan of the SpringBoard organization method Apple has more or less had in place since the first iPhone. Once Apple allowed third-party applications and multiple screens, organization became an issue. When folders were added, it wasnt much better than a crowded desktop. This leads to user confusion when trying to find things.

    In particular, Macworld reader Zenon writes in with whats either a searching issue, to which I can provide a solution, or some kind of iOS bug, which I cant solve.

    Zenon ironically cant locate the Find My Friends app. Zenon can use the app, and can use Siri to search for it and launch it. But it doesnt appear on any SpringBoard. When uninstalling and then reinstalling the app, its installation progress appears, but then it immediately disappears.

    In iOS 10 and some earlier versions, Apple showed a list of apps matching the first few characters you typed or the whole name. To the right of each app in a folder was the name of that folder.

    iOS 11 changed that behavior. Siri searches are much more comprehensive and deep across embedded information in apps, the web, and other sources. Applications are now grouped together in a box, not shown in a list. Tapping an app launches it.

    However, theres a trick to find the folder:

  • Swipe down from the middle of the SpringBoard or swipe right from the main home screen
  • Tap the apps name.
  • The app appears in a list view with the folder name to its right.

    Where Is The Apps And Data Screen On iPhone/ipad

    Apps and Data screen is a step of the iOS setup assistant. When starting your new iPhone, iPad for the first time, you will be greeted by the “Hello” screen. Then you will have to select language, countries or regions, Wi-Fi, set up Face ID/Touch ID, and after all these steps, you’ll get to the Apps and Data screen, where you can choose to:

    • Don’t Transfer Apps & Data;
    • Move data from Android.

    Apps and Data screen only appears in the initial setup of an iPhone/iPad, and that’s why you can’t find it anywhere on your device after setup. But no worry, you can still easily get to the Apps and Data screen after setup with the following steps.

    Clear App Cache And Data

    Clearing cache or data from an app can fix some software problems. If you clear data, any data stored in that app is lost, such as settings, login information, and saved games. If you don’t want to clear the data, try just clearing cache first. If you still experience problems, then clear data too.

    To clear the cache and data for an app, you must uninstall the application.

    What Does The App Library Have To Do With Missing Apps

    While it’s possible for all of your apps to live on both the home screen and in the App Library, it’s also possible for there to be a discrepancy between the two. That’s because iOS lets you remove apps from the home screen while keeping them tucked away in the App Library. In fact, you can have iOS automatically add apps to the App Library only, leaving your home screen clean and orderly.

    That’s all fine and well if you know about the App Library, but it creates a confusing system of missing apps for those of us who are unaware. By default, iOS will send new apps to both the home screen and App Library, but it’s possible that it’s not doing that. That’s because you may have inadvertently set new apps to go to the App Library only or removed an app manually.

    Use Icloud To Back Up Your iPhone If You Can

    I strongly recommend using iCloud to back up and restore your iPhone when your apps wont open.

    When you back up your iPhone to iTunes or Finder, it makes an image of all your apps and data. When you restore from the backup, the whole image gets put back on your iPhone, and theres a chance the;problem will;come right back.

    iCloud backups only save your personal data in the cloud, not the entire app. When you restore from an iCloud backup, your;iPhone downloads;your personal data from iCloud and your apps fresh from the App Store, so theres a smaller;chance the problem will return.

    How To Hide A Home Screen Page

    How To Find iPhone Apps

    In combination with the App Library and Home screen widgets, you can also customize a Home page and hide it until you want to use it. For example, you can customize a Home screen page with only apps you use for work and then hide it in the evenings and on weekends so you’re not distracted by work while relaxing.

  • Hold your finger on a blank spot on any Home screen page to trigger jiggle mode.
  • Tap the series of dots at the bottom of the Home screen page. These dots represent the number of Home screen pages you have.
  • Untick the Home screen page you want to hide.

  • When you hide a Home screen page, it will no longer appear on your Home screen. You can create and customize any number of Home screen pages to fit your lifestyle and then hide them out of the way until you need them. All of your apps are still on your iPhone and accessible from your App Library.
