The iPhone SE is available now around the world including the US, UK and Australia. The release date was April 24, 2020, with pre-orders going live the week before.
Although it was rumored to be called the iPhone SE 2, the iPhone SE is the official name that Apple opted for for its 2020 device. You won’t see it referred to as the iPhone SE 2020 on Apple’s website – that’s just our way of distinguishing it from the 2016 device.
The iPhone SE price starts at $399 / £399 / AU$679, which is a slight price drop in some regions from its launch price of $399 / £419 / AU$749 / Rs 42,500. The base model comes with 64GB of storage, with 128GB and 256GB models also available for a higher price.
The 128GB model costs $449 / £449 / AU$759 while the 256GB one costs $549 / £549 / AU$929.
In the US, Apple is offering the new iPhone SE at $16.62/month through its financing plan or, if you have an older iPhone to trade in, you can get it for less.

It feels like the iPhone world has moved on in three years though now the 4.7-inch screen with the chunky bezels above and below feels like it belongs to the past.

A notable weakness for the iPhone SE was the battery life. In the Toms Guide battery life test, the iPhone SE managed 9 hours and 18 minutes, and that was over 4G. Fortunately, the A15 Bionic processor should help the iPhone SE be more efficient, and we’re hoping Apple is also able to squeeze in a larger battery.

In other words, the next iPhone SE is once again rumored to be based on the iPhone 8s shell, with select new components. Nikkei Asia reported in July that the next SE will look like a refreshed version of the iPhone 8 and have a 4.7-inch liquid crystal diode display.
Apple is also said to be working on an updated version of the iPhone 11, which features a 6.1-inch LCD and Face ID. If this were to release in 2022, the iPhone 11 would be more than two years old, which fits in with Apples pattern of the iPhone SE using old iPhone bodies and screen technology with some new internal components. This potential phone may launch as the iPhone SE Plus that was originally rumored to release in the second half of 2021, but more recent rumors suggest a 2022 or 2023 release date.

Is iPhone Se Worth The Money
The original 2016 iPhone SE cost $579 for the base 16GB model, so the pricing on the 2020 version is comparable. Considering you’re getting current-generation hardware inside, $599 CAD for the iPhone SE gets you a better device than the iPhone XR… and for hundreds of dollars less.
Most smartphone owners like having the newest tech, but not everyone wants a big screen. The base model iPhone 11 features a 6.1″ display, and more premium iPhone 11 Pro models can have even larger screens up to 6.5″. That can be hard to fit in your pocket, and the prices starting at $1,000 can be even harder on your wallet. There’s a portion of iPhone owners who have carefully cradled their classic iPhone SE with a cracked screen in hopes that Apple would release an updated version of the pocket-friendly smartphone.
However, if you’re still a fan of bigger screens or just hate the old Home Button layout then keep your eyes open for iPhone XR sales. Now that there’s a better budget iPhone on the block you can expect to see the iPhone XR selling on 2-year contracts for $20/month or less.

The images clicked by the iPhone SE have natural colours a rarity these days. Most Android devices give you oversaturated results. The dynamic range levels in the brightest and darkest areas of an image are impressive.

The iPhone SE also has a night mode, which is quite effective. Images clicked in the dark look very natural, with minimum noise and haziness. The night mode doesn’t work in video, though.
If you are a photography enthusiast, you may want to look at the Pixel 3A XL, which has Googles legendary Night mode.
Additionally, the iPhone SE uses Apples version of single-lens portrait mode, but its a little disappointing because it only works if there is a human face in front of the camera. The portrait mode doesnt work on objects or animals. The same goes for Smart HDR.

The video quality of the iPhone SE is amazing. It lets you shoot 4K videos at 24/30/60 fps, and HD videos at 30/60 fps. The video output is stable, and has gorgeous colour.

If Screen Size And Night Photography Arent Your Priority iPhone Se Is A Great Phone In Its Budget
Priced up to Rs 53,900, the iPhone SE 2020 is a wonderful device that offers you a compact design, great camera and overall performance, and an improved battery life thats been a pain point on iPhones for a while now. The size of the iPhone SE is undoubtedly a big selling point for anyone who misses being able to comfortably clutch a smartphone.

Id only caution you against the iPhone SE for two reasons:
a) If you are a photography enthusiast, because the selfie camera and the portrait mode may mar your experience
b) If a large display is crucial to your daily use of the phone
If one or both the reasons above apply to you, you could look at the Pixel 3a series, or wait for the Pixel 4a, thats expected to launch sometime in October. You could also look at OnePlus 7T Pro or Samsung Galaxy S10.
For everyone else, the iPhone SE 2020 will not disappoint.

iPhone Se : What We Want To See
As good as the iPhone SE is, wed like to see a few things improved for its successor.
5G: Now that other phone makers are releasing 5G phones for under $500 and even under $400, it’s time that Apple does the same for its budget handset. Although 5G networks are still be deployed, shoppers deserve future-proof connectivity.
OLED display and higher resolution: The LCD on the iPhone SE is fine, but wed like to see a better OLED display on the iPhone SE 3. This would mean punchier colors and deeper blacks with better contrast. Wed also like to see a bump in resolution. The pixel density on the iPhone SE isnt all that great either at 1334 x 750.
Better battery life: Like we said above, the battery life on the iPhone SE is just alright. It doesnt hit the 10-hour mark average that we like to see in our battery tests, but it can get through a day with light to medium use. For the iPhone SE 3, we hope that Apple uses a bigger battery.
More cameras and Night Mode: The iPhone SE uses a single 12MP wide-angle camera. It produces decent photos, but in some cases Apple falls behind the Pixel 5a. If the iPhone SE 3 adds an extra camera, wed expect it to be an ultrawide sensor. We also really want Night Mode since the SE lacks it.
The iPhone Se Is Still A Great Budget Phone That Shouldn’t Be Dismissed
The iPhone SE has a time and a place for those of you who “just want a new iPhone” for as little as possible, and don’t mind so much about fancy ultra-wide cameras or edge-to-edge displays.
Plus, there’s a small but vocal minority who do not like Face ID on the newer iPhones and swear by the old-fashioned and reliable Touch ID. Chances are there won’t be another iPhone released with Touch ID.

Should You Buy The iPhone Se
A few months ago, our economy looked capable of supporting $1,200 smartphones, from both Apple and Samsung now, we have an unemployment rate of over 20 percent. A few months ago, I recommended phones as an investment for the next three years now, I know many people are worried about feeding their families next month. This has all happened far too fast for electronics companies, which plan their products 12 to 18 months in advance, to adapt.
The iPhone SE couldn’t have come at a better timeit’s a knockout value for $399. If you’re looking for an iPhone, the only real reasons to pay more are if you really want a bigger screen and night mode. This is a terrific upgrade for anyone with an iPhone 7 or lower.
The SE also competes compellingly with any Android phone under $699. Go to that price level, and you get features like multiple high-quality cameras and 5G in the $699 OnePlus 8. You may want to go to midrange Android phones instead if you need to spend even less money, or demand a much larger screen, both of which you get in the $249 Motorola Moto G Power. But the Moto G Power isn’t nearly as pocketable or as fast as the iPhone SE.
With tens of millions of Americans out of work, our nation needs an affordable, speedy smartphone to help us stay connected, with a long life ahead of it. That’s the iPhone SE. It’s an Editors’ Choice, and a phone that I’m going to be recommending to a lot of people over the coming months.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is the iPhone with the largest display, offering a 6.7-inch OLED screen on its front, as well as the most advanced camera offered by Apple with a new telephoto lens and new main lens offering 1.7µm pixels.

The Apple iPhone 12 mini is the smallest iPhone available – smaller than the iPhone SE despite offering a larger display. It comes with Face ID like the rest of the iPhone 12 models and it features an aluminium body with squarer edges than the iPhone 11 and a ceramic shield front.
The iPhone 12 mini is the iPhone to buy if you want some of the latest and greatest features Apple has to offer but in lovely small and light package.

iPhone Se 3 News Leaks And Rumors
The biggest iPhone SE 3 leak so far has revealed a number of the possible specs. Apparently the phone will have an A15 Bionic chipset and support 5G, but might otherwise be similar to its predecessor, with the same bezel-heavy design and 4.7-inch LCD screen.
We’ve also previously heard that it might have a 4.7-inch LCD screen and 5G support, so those aspects are looking likely.
An A15 Bionic chipset is also likely, given that the iPhone SE had the best iPhone chipset available at the time, which in this case probably will be the A15.
Elsewhere we’ve heard that Apple could bring Face ID to a future iPhone SE model. That would likely mean a substantial change to the design, with no more home button and a notch instead. However, given that the leaks above suggest a similar design for the iPhone SE 3, this change might be further out .
iPhone Ses $399 Price Tag
At $399 the iPhone SE is the cheapest new iPhone its possible to buy so if youre simply looking at the lowest cost, this is the way to go. While Apple did try and make its iPhone 13 range more affordable, even the cheapest iPhone 13 Mini starts at $699, a significant price increase over the SE.
The next cheapest iPhone you can get is the iPhone 11. It was released back in 2019, but you can still buy a new one on the Apple store. It uses the older A13 Bionic processor, also starts with 64GB of storage, also has wireless charging but does offer an excellent dual rear camera. You also get a much bigger screen with the iPhone 11 6.1 inches versus the iPhone SEs 4.7 inches.

What’s Next For The iPhone Se
According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, there is no new iPhone SE coming in 2021, with an update instead planned for the first half of 2022. The design and specifications will be similar to the existing iPhone SE, which is a 4.7-inch device modeled after the iPhone 8, but it will include 5G and an upgraded processor, which DigiTimes believes will be the A14 chip first used in the iPhone 12 lineup. Kuo says it will be the most affordable 5G iPhone available.
Nikkei believes the next-generation iPhone SE will look similar to the current design that’s based on the iPhone 8, but with an upgraded A15 chip, which is expected first in the iPhone 13, along with Qualcomm’s X60 modem for 5G. DigiTimes and Nikkei disagree on the A-series chip that will be in the new device, but either the A14 or the A15 will be an upgrade.
Kuo in 2029 said there would be an “iPhone SE Plus” with a full-screen design, no Face ID, and a Touch ID fingerprint sensor built into the power button on the side of the device, but his latest device predictions did not include a mention of this device and it may have been tabled.
Barclays analysts also do not believe that Apple has plans to refresh the iPhone SE in the foreseeable future, and that they have not heard mentions of a larger-screened iPhone SE with a 5.5 or 6.1-inch display.
