Snipcopy For iPhone And iPad
Another app we tried to convert iPhone images to text with was SnipCopy. The app claims to do the same as LiveScan and it uses a free, ad-supported model.
Unfortunately we couldnt get the app to work, with it kicking out Error: OCR engine not available.
The app also doesnt feature near the UI polish that LiveScan does. But the error we experienced could be a temporary problem and SnipCopy could be worth it if you want to try a free option.
How To Scan Old Photos With Your Phone
If you have old family photos you wish to save, there are several apps that can help turn your phone into a scanner. Heres how to digitize old photos with Google PhotoScan, Microsoft Office Lens, and TurboScan.
If you have a large collection of old printed photos, you can digitize them using a scanner attached to your computer. However, the easiest and cheapest way is to use a like Google PhotoScan, Microsoft Office Lens, or TurboScan to help scan, rotate, crop, and add filters to your photos.
Despite the benefits of using an app, be aware that it may not be the best choice in every situation. - Arrange your documents in a stack so theyre scanned in order, one after the other.
- After the camera shoots the first page, the app reads Ready next scan along the bottom. Remove the first page so it can capture the second page.
- Repeat until you finish all scanning.
- Tap Save;and all your scanned pages will save to a single document. A badge will indicate how many pages are included.

Why Are People Concerned
Unfortunately, Apples new CSAM detection system might backfire, experts say. Many worry that Apple scanning photos could lead to abuse by bad actors like hackers, governments, and even Apple itself. Apple has essentially created a bypass to its end-to-end encryption that itor anyone it authorizescan use to gain access to a persons device without their permission and snoop on their content, Hijazi says.
End-to-end encryption is a security feature that ensures no one eavesdrops on your messages. But by using Apples new CSAM technology, someonehackers or rogue Apple employees, for examplecould access and spy on users photos.
The feature could also be used to search for other types of material on users devices, such as political content or things that are critical of a repressive government like China or Iran, according to Hamerstone. Responding to this criticism, Apple released a statement reassuring users that it would refuse such demands from governments.

Apples new iPhone photo-scanning feature is a complicated issue. However, one thing is clear: If you have an iPhone, theres a way you can opt-out of Apples local photo scanningfor now, at least.
Update, 9/3/21: Apple has delayed the launch of the on-device CSAM photo scanning feature. The company plans to push back its launch at least a couple of months to collect feedback before releasing the;child safety features that were scheduled to go live in iOS 15 and iPadOS 15.

Apple introduced the Files app with iPhone 11. It also has a handy document scanning feature that works like the scanner on Notes. Take a snap of a document and save it anywhere in iCloud Drive, or in any third-party cloud services connected with the Files app.

A QR code is another type of scan you might have to perform. Its a time-saving shortcut when you dont want to type in a long URL to shop for something. Point the iPhone at the QR code and the information is scanned in a second.
How Will Apple Scan Your Photos
After a significant backlash, Apple released an FAQ to answer many peoples questions about the new update. The company clarified that only photos uploaded to their cloud storage service, iCloud, are susceptible to scanning. The feature is also limited to users in the United States. However, there is some speculation that Apple could expand the feature to other countries in the future.
According to Apple, the Child Sexual Abuse Material detection tool will perform on-device scanning of photos uploaded to iCloud by comparing them against CSAM hashes from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children .
If a match is found, an Apple employee will manually inspect the image to determine if it is indeed a CSAM photo. Apple clarified that its employees would not review all images. It will focus its attention on images that reach a certain scoring threshold on their algorithm.;
Besides scanning iCloud photos, the feature will add additional parental controls on Messages, Siri, and Search. With Messages, parents can turn on a feature that will alert them when a potentially sexually explicit image is sent to or received by their child.;

Why Is Apple Scanning Photos
Child sexual abuse material is spreading faster than ever, with millions of images or videos online and over 19,100 victims identified by law enforcement. To help curb the spread of CSAM, Apple is increasing its efforts to detect and flag sexually explicit content involving children on its devices. In a statement, Apple said that its new features aim to help protect children from predators who use communication tools to recruit and exploit them, and limit the spread of child sexual abuse material. But experts believe this new photo-scanning technology could be one of the top smartphone security threats.
Why Are People Concerned About Csam Detection
Apple says this system is actually more private than competitors, such as Facebook and Google. Those systems scan images that are stored on servers, not individuals devices.
But security experts saydoing the scanning on a persons phone is a bigger invasion of privacy than doing it on a remote server.
Apple says its using cryptography or techniques for passing information secretly to identify CSAM while making sure the company cant access any other photos on its customers devices or in the cloud.
Theres also an emotional factor. Some people find that having a device they own especially one that is as personal as a smartphone potentially turn them in to the authorities is just uncomfortable, even if they are law-abiding.

How To Convert Image To Pdf On iPhone iPad
In this demo, we will use Scanner pro app on iPad. If you are using Scanner pro on iPhone, the appearances differ, the process to scan documents, convert photos to PDF on iPhone iPad is quite similar. Run the scanner app on iPad, you will find its home interface like this.
Press the Plus icon to add new scans. It will launch your camera on iPhone or iPad instantly. Here we will create a scan from photos saved in Camera Roll or Photo Library, so tap the Picture icon on the bottom toolbar to choose photos from your photo library.
Select images from Camera Roll and add them into the Scanner app. You can select and add multiple photos from Camera Roll. Choose the processing type as Photo, Document or Grayscale, then tap on the pages or photo to edit them and save. You can also choose Save to directly convert pictures to PDF on iPhone or iPad.

How To Scan A Document On Your iPhone Or iPad Via The Notes App

You need to scan a paper document on the go and your trusty iPhone or iPad is available. You can use a variety of scanning apps on your mobile device, but one handy option is to use the built-in Notes app. By creating a new note, or editing an existing one, you can scan a document relevant to the note itself. Your scanned image can appear in color, grayscale, or black and white. You can set the scan to go off manually or automatically. After you’ve taken the scan, you can crop and resize the image and then rotate it. Here are the steps.

On your iPhone or iPad, open the Notes app. Create a new note or open an existing note that you want to associate with the scanned document. Tap the camera icon on the toolbar and select the option to Scan Documents .

Tap the Auto command and set how you want the scan to run. You can set it to Auto so that the scan goes off when the app detects the document, or Manual so that you have to press the Shutter button to take the scan .
