We put both the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro through a test where we dropped them from different heights. After dropping them from 3-feet, 6-feet and 8-feet off the ground both phones survived without a single crack to their screens or glass backs. The only blemish was a small scuff to the iPhone 11’s aluminum band and a few damaged pixels on the bottom of the 11 Pro’s screen.
As far as water resistance, both of these phones are rated IP68. Apple claims the iPhone 11 can withstand being submerged at a depth of 6.5 feet up to 30 minutes and the 11 Pro can survive at a maximum depth of 13 feet up to 30 minutes. However, in our water tests with an underwater drone, the 11 and 11 Pro both survived being submerged for 30 minutes at 39 feet .

The iPhone X weighs a bit less than the iPhone 11. Its not a huge difference, 174 grams to 194, but for some people it may make a difference. The iPhone 11 includes Apple’s A13 Bionic processor, while the iPhone 12 includes Apple’s A14 Bionic processor, offering faster speeds that improve the camera and browsing experience. Water And Dust Resistance
The iPhone 11 has an IP68 water resistance rating, which is up from IP67 in the previous-generation iPhone XR. It’s rated to survive a depth of up to two meters for up to 30 minutes. Two meters is double the depth rating of the iPhone XR, but less than some more recent iPhone models.
With an IP68 water resistance rating, the iPhone 11 can withstand splashes, rain, and brief accidental water exposure, but intentional water exposure should be avoided. Apple warns that water and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and deteriorate as a result of normal wear.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 8 Cameras
The other noticeable difference between older and newer iPhones is the number of cameras on the back of each one. The iPhone 11 sports two lenses, the same amount you’ll find on the iPhone 8 Plus. The iPhone 8 makes do with a single 12-MP wide camera with an f/1.8 aperture.
The iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 11 may have the same number of cameras, but the lenses serve different purposes. The 8 Plus augments its 12-MP main shooter with a 12-MP telephoto lens that supports a 2x optical zoom. The iPhone 11 goes the other direction, with a 12-MP ultra wide lens joining the standard wide camera. It supports 2x optical zoom out. Up front, there’s a more powerful sensor for the iPhone 11’s TrueDepth camera 12-MP to the 7-MP shooter on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.

I like what the iPhone 8 Plus did with the photo in this shot. It’s bright and colorful, and really pops out against the green leaves in the background. The iPhone 11 pulls back a little bit, capturing more of the surrounding details. Its colors aren’t as vibrant, but they are more lifelike a trick the iPhone 11 pulled off without making the colors seem muted or washed out.
Performance And Battery Life
Another area where the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 12 differ is in regard to processor performance. The iPhone 12 has Apples latest A14 Bionic processor, which Apple touts is the fastest chip in a smartphone. The A14 Bionic features two high-performance cores and four efficiency cores.
The iPhone 12 also features the latest Neural Engine for improved machine learning features and capabilities. Apple says the new 16-core Neural Engine offers an 80% increase in performance compared to the prior generation.
On the flip side, the iPhone 11 is powered by Apples A13 Bionic processor as well as the third-generation Neural Engine. Even though its not Apples latest and greatest silicon, the A13 Bionic processor ensures that the iPhone 11 will receive software updates for many years.

Both devices support fast-charging for getting an up to 50% charge in 30 minutes, but the iPhone 12 also supports 15W wireless charging when using Apples MagSafe Charger. The iPhone 11 can charge via the MagSafe charger, but it does not feature the necessary magnetic system to accommodate 15W speeds. Instead, its limited to 7.5W.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 11 Pros: Battery Life
The iPhone XR and XS releases introduced us to an upside-down world where Apple’s least expensive model, the iPhone XR, also had the longest-lasting battery. Apple says the XR was the longest lasting iPhone it ever built, and the company wasn’t kidding it turned in a time of 11 hours, 26 minutes on our battery test, which was nearly an hour better than the iPhone XS Max’s result.
Order was restored to the universe with the iPhone 11 lineup. The iPhone 11 Pro Max takes the long-lasting iPhone crown by lasting an average of 11 hours and 54 minutes while continuously surfing the web over LTE. The iPhone 11 also turned in a good result of 11:16, though that’s a few minutes behind the XR’s result. Both those iPhones landed on our list of the best phone battery life we’ve seen on devices tested in the last 18 months.
The iPhone 11 Pro improved upon the below-average result of the iPhone XS, though at 10:24, its result was still roughly an hour behind the regular iPhone 11.
The iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max charge faster out of the box. Those models ship with an 18-watt charger. On the iPhone 11 Max, we got the battery up to 55% after 30 minutes of charging good, though the Note 10 Plus and OnePlus 7 charge faster. The iPhone 11 supports faster charging, too, though you’ll have to buy your own 18W adapter.

There are four iPhone 12 models: the iPhone 12 Mini , the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro , and the iPhone 12 Pro Max . By comparison, there are only three iPhone 11 devices: the iPhone 11 , the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max . Basically, the base iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 are the same size. There are some key differences, however, when it comes to each phone’s design. Both are IP68 rated for water-resistance, have no headphone jack, and have wireless charging capabilities. Power Adapter And Earpods
Apple, through an environmental initiative, has removed the EarPods and power adapter from new iPhone boxes starting October 2020, including the iPhone 11. Removing these items is claimed to reduce e-waste and permit a smaller iPhone box, allowing more devices to be transported simultaneously to decrease carbon footprint. However, Apple now includes a USB-C to Lightning cable, incompatible with the existing USB-A power adapters that Apple previously supplied with their devices. Upgraders can still use their existing iPhone power adapters and cables, but users wanting fast charging capabilities will have to purchase a USB-C power adapter separately.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 8 Design
You’re not going to mistake an iPhone 11 and an iPhone 8 if you stack up the models next to each other. At 5.94 x 2.98 x 0.33 inches, the iPhone 11 is noticeably taller and wider than the iPhone 8. The 8 Plus is both taller and wider than the iPhone 11, though, even with the larger screen on Apple’s newer phone.
Apple can fit a larger screen onto the iPhone 11 because of the notch in the display that houses the sensors and lenses that make up the TrueDepth camera. That frees up space for more screen real estate that’s otherwise eaten up by the chunky bezels on the top and bottom of the iPhone 8 and 8 Pro.
Both the newer and older iPhones feature a glass back, but the iPhone 11 outdoes the iPhone 8 in terms of color options. You can get Apple’s new phone in one of six colors black, green, yellow, purple, white and Product Red. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are available in more staid gold, silver and space gray options.
The iPhone 11’s more durable, too, with an IP68 water resistance rating that allows it to survive a 30-minute dunk in up to 2 meters of water. With an IP67 rating, the iPhone 8 models can only last that long in up to 1 meter of water. Apple says the iPhone 11 is more durable than before, and while third-party durability tests back up that claim, we’d still recommend getting an iPhone 11 case.
