For years, iPhone and iPad users have been asking for ways to hide pictures from the main camera roll in the Photos app. Apple has finally gone some way to addressing this feature with iOS 14 thanks to a new Hidden Album toggle. Heres how to hide photos from the camera roll on the iPhone in iOS 14

There are many reasons why people want to hide photos, perhaps you have taken photos only meant for certain people to see or you have screenshots that you want to keep but dont want to clutter up your main Photos library. Perhaps youve taken a picture of a present for your kid that you want to keep a surprise for a little longer.

In previous versions of iOS, you are able to hide photos. Select a photo, press the Share button, and press Hide. This removes the photo from the main Library tab, so it feels like it is hidden.

However, the photo can be easily found by going to Albums -> Other Albums -> Hidden.

This kind of defeats the point because someone looking at all your photos can very easily get to it. A toddler could accidentally tap on the Hidden album view, they dont even need to be explicitly looking for it.

With iOS 14, however, you can now go one step further. You can now hide the Hidden album from showing, removing all traces of hidden images from the Photos app.

Okay Now How Do I Hide The Hidden Album

Your photo might not feel especially hidden if it can still be accessed it from the Albums page. Fortunately, the Hidden iPhone album can also be hidden so it doesnt appear in the Photos app.

As mentioned above, this workaround to Password Protect Photos on iPhone requires you to first Add Photos to a Note and Password protect the Note containing photos.

This way, no one will be able to access hidden Photos on your iPhone, without knowing the password to unlock the Note containing Hidden Photos.

1. Open the Photos App on your iPhone and tap on the Albums tab in bottom menu.

2. Open the Album where the Photos that you want to hide are located and tap on Select.

3. Select the Photos that you want to hide and tap on the Share icon, located in bottom menu.

4. On the Share Menu that appears, tap on the Notes option.

5. On the Note that opens, tap on the Save option to save the selected Photos to Note.

Note: You can save the Note to iCloud or My iPhone under Save to section.

After the Photos are saved to Note, the next step is to Password Protect the Note containing Photos by following steps 6 to 9 below.

6. Open the Notes App > tap on the Note containing Photos.

7. Once the Note is open, tap on the Share icon located at top-right corner of your screen.

8. Scroll down on the Share Menu that appears and tap on Lock Note option.

9. When prompted, enter the Password to Lock this Note and tap on Done.

Note: Make sure that you remember the password and write it down somewhere.

Now that Photos are placed in a Locked Note, no one will be able to access or view the Photos, without entering the Password to unlock the Note.

Recover Hidden Photos On iPhone

As the software scans the device, the hidden files will also be displayed in the results. The files you are looking for can be filtered as per file type or application. Select the ones you want back and have a preview. Finally, hit the Recover button, and youâll have all your files on the system in a while.
