To get a good scan of your fingerprint, do the following:
- Choose the finger you want to scan, depending on how you tend to hold your iPhone when you pick it up. It probably makes sense to use your thumb or forefinger. You can add other fingers later, up to a maximum of five.
- Lay the fleshy pad of your finger lightly on the Home button, but don’t press the button, or the phone cancels your scan.
- When the device vibrates, lift your finger off the Touch ID scanner and press it down lightly again.
- Repeat this process, each time putting your finger onto the scanner in a slightly different way or at a slightly different angle. The more complete the scan of your fingerprint, the more flexibility you have in how you hold your finger when using Touch ID later. The red lines on the on-screen fingerprint represent your progress. The more red lines you see, the better the scan.
- When the initial scan is complete, the iPhone prompts you to scan the edges of your finger. Repeat the same process as before, using the sides, top, and other edges of your finger to get the best scan.
Tip 1: If All Else Fails Start Fresh
Using a combination of the above tips should keep Touch ID working smoothly at all times, but if you’re still having issues, it’s good to delete all of the prints as seen in Tip 12, then re-register them all. You could also “Turn Passcode Off,” which removes all of your Touch ID scans, then reenable your passcode, but then you have to set the passcode up again before you can re-add your fingerprints.

Touch ID is a scan of your fingerprint, and anything that impedes that scan will cause it to fail. When your finger is wet, that water can often block Touch ID from getting a proper read. Why? Because Touch ID uses capacitive touch.
The capacitive sensor uses tiny amounts of electricity to measure the differences between the ridges in valleys of your fingerprint. That fingerprint is on the insulated epidermal skin layer. But the sensor connects with the conductive subepidermal skin layer beneath it to measure the differences in thickness in the fingerprint, then reconstructs the print mathematically from those readings.
Water and sweat can change the conductive readings, which can prevent Touch ID from accurately reading, building, and comparing your print. So to make sure the scanner can “see” your fingerprint correctly, make sure your finger is as dry as possible before attempting a scan.

Name The Fingerprint Slots Appropriately
After you tap the final “Continue,” iOS will save your two-finger scan alongside any other scan you might already have. Tap the new scan to change its name to something more specific, such as “left and right pinky,” so you don’t get confused by which fingers you’ve scanned and which you still need to do.

How To Disable Touch Id Or Face Id
Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode . Youll be prompted to enter your passcode.
On the Touch ID & Passcode page , turn off all the settings in the Use Touch ID For sectioniPhone Unlock and Apple Pay and iTunes & App Store.

Delete Old Fingerprint Scans
If you want to use all ten of your fingers on Touch ID, or if you’re going to use five of yours and five of somebody else’s, then you’ll want to delete all fingerprints already registered. If you only want six of your fingers to work with Touch ID, you just need to free up one slot, if not previously available.
