Accessing Apps And Functions Has Never Been Easier For iPhone Users

ByLewis Painter, Senior Staff Writer| 24 Jun 2020

It might not have been revealed at Apples WWDC 2020 keynote, but Back Tap is a big deal for iPhone users. The useful accessibility tool is designed for those with more limited motor functions, but can be used by anyone, essentially providing iOS 14 users with easy access to a variety of system tasks including taking a screenshot, accessing the control centre, locking your phone and even opening apps like Google Assistant.

Yes, thats right, you can use the Power button to access Siri and a quick double-tap to access Google Assistant on an iPhone – as long as youve got the Google Assistant app installed, of course.

The feature can also be set up with Shortcuts in mind, allowing you to activate a shortcut that, for example, turns your home lights on and off with a double-tap of the rear of your iPhone. Thatd be pretty handy for when you go to bed and wake up – especially in those dark winter months.

For most users, though, its likely the app launch function thatll be the most exciting. Double-tap to open WhatsApp? You got it. Triple-tap to open the Camera? Yep, you can do that too.

We outline how to tap to open apps, take screenshots and more in iOS 14 right here. If you’re yet to install the beta, take a look at how to get iOS 14 now.

Use Icloud To Back Up Your iPhone If You Can

I strongly recommend using iCloud to back up and restore your iPhone when your apps wont open.

When you back up your iPhone to iTunes or Finder, it makes an image of all your apps and data. When you restore from the backup, the whole image gets put back on your iPhone, and theres a chance the problem will come right back.

iCloud backups only save your personal data in the cloud, not the entire app. When you restore from an iCloud backup, your iPhone downloads your personal data from iCloud and your apps fresh from the App Store, so theres a smaller chance the problem will return.

Open The iPhone Camera With Back Tap

posted on 2020-10-12

The easiest way to open the iPhone camera yet.

One of the accessibility features in iOS 14 and later is the addition of a Back Tap feature, where you can configure actions to occur based on a double-tap or triple-tap of the back of your iPhone. This is a great idea, and the idea of launching the iPhone camera from a couple taps sounds perfect.

If you have iOS 15, Apple has made this even easier! Heres updated information on how to set this up with even less steps than before. Still running iOS 14? Scroll down to jump to the process needed with that system.

Create A Shortcut To Open Your Favorite App

The Back Tap feature works with Shortcuts, so you’ll need to create shortcuts that open up the apps of your choice, and it’s effortless to do so.

In the Shortcuts app, go to the “My Shortcuts” tab and tap on the plus sign on the top right. You can also use “Create Shortcut” from the quick actions menu on Shortcuts’ home screen app icon. This is where you’ll create the workflow, and there’s only one action. To start, tap on “Add Action” or the search bar at the bottom.

A window showing you various actions will appear. Using the search bar, type in “Open app,” then select the “Open App” action from the results list. This will place the Open App scripting action into your shortcut. Next, tap on the blue “Choose” label that appears in the action box.

A list of every app on your device will appear, including both native and third-party ones. Find the app you want to open with Back Tap by either scrolling through the list or searching for it by its name. I’ll be selecting the native Camera app, which would be a great app to open quickly when I need to snap a photo or shoot a video without messing with the lock screen.

How To Open Disabled iPhone/ipad Via Find My iPhone

The âFind My iPhoneâ app on iOS devices is responsible for the lock screen activation and is also responsible for helping you find your iPhone should it go missing.

One of the ways to open disabled iPhone/iPad is via the âFind My iPhoneâ app. Simply erase your device. Steps?

  • From another computer, go to icloud.com/#find.
  • Sign in with your iCloud Apple ID when prompted.
  • Select All Devices at the top.
  • Choose your disabled iPhone or iPad.
  • Click on Erase iPhone to remotely wipe off your disabled device and its passcode. Please ensure that the disabled device is connected to the internet.
  • Some Steps Can Be Tricky

Screws and connectors are easy, but as I mentioned above, some steps can be a bit rocky.

First, if you have an iPhone 7 or newer, youll need to apply some heat around the edge of the phone to soften up the adhesive that glues the screen to the rest of the phone, but dont worrythe iFixit guide shows you how to do this. As for the iPhone 6s, it has a small amount of adhesive around the edge, but not enough to require heat . The iPhone 6 and older dont have any adhesive around the edge.

Starting with the iPhone 7, Apple began waterproofing its iPhones by upgrading the adhesive seal around the edge. Once you break that seal, youll still be able to reassemble the iPhone without a problem, but the seal around the edge will no longer be watertight. Thankfully, you can buy new adhesive from iFixit and replace the seal if you want to keep the waterproofing, but its not required by any means, and theres no guarantee like youd get from official Apple service.

As for the adhesive holding the battery down, there are tabs at the bottom that you slowly pull on to remove the adhesive strips, just like you would when removing a 3M Command Strip. The only problem is that theyre extremely thin and prone to breaking off, especially when they get snagged on a nearby piece of metal.

Youll also need a suction cup and a spudger to lift the screen and deal with other small components.

    Heres what you should do:

  • Turn off your iPhone and remove the screws next to the lightning port.
  • Use the suction cup on the lower-left corner of the screen.
  • Lift the screen while holding down the case.
  • Pry open the case with the spudger and lift the display to a 90-degree angle.

  • Recalibrate The Home Button

We’ve used “recalibrate” in quotes here because this is not an official term. In fact, there doesn’t seem to be a definitive source for this trick, but it’s effective at fixing iPhone Home buttons regardless of why your Home button is not working.

Again, you can use this trick to fix the Home button on any applicable device. The worst that could happen is that your Home button still doesn’t work after you try it.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Launch any stock app that came pre-installed on your device. For example, you might open Notes, Calendar, Reminders, or .
  • Now press and hold the Top or Side button on your iPhone until the Slide to power off prompt appears. If nothing appears, try holding either Volume button at the same time.
  • Don’t power off your iPhone. Instead, press and hold the Home button for around 10 seconds until the prompt disappears and the app quits.

That’s it. This fix should work for physical Home buttons that aren’t working on the iPhone 6S and earlier, as well as the touch-based Home buttons on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8.

If “recalibrating” didn’t fix your Home button, try repeating the process several times. Some users have reported that their Home button started working after three or four attempts.

How To Replace The Back Cover Of An iPhone 4 Or iPhone 4s

Not only that, this particular iPhone repair is one of the simplest of them all. The process is the same for both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s. Replacing the back panel also fixes any issues you may have with a hazy camera or cracked lens since it’s built in to the back panel. So if any of these issues sound like you, follow along and we’ll walk you through.

Anytime you make any hardware repairs, make sure to do them in a dry, clean place. You don’t want any liquid or dirt getting inside your device. I typically perform repairs on a cool, clean surface and use a few white sheets of printer paper. The paper makes it easy to spot screws. As always, be careful. With this particular walkthrough, remember that if you ever need to take your phone back to Apple for repair or replacement, you’ll need to replace the default back.

    Why Is iPhone Backup Important

How To Open And Get Inside A iPhone 7

A smart user once said, There are two kinds of computing devices, those that have failed and those that will fail.

Everyone experiences problems with their digital devices, even their smartphones. Blancco Technology Group released a report on iPhone failures stating that 25 percent of iPhones failed between January and March of 2016. However, a study performed the following quarter found that:

58 percent of iPhones failed between April and June of 2016.

These statistics dont appear to be going in the right direction when it comes to peace of mind.

The bottom line is if any of these failures result in lost data and you have not backed up, you risk losing a lot more than your phone contact list!

Since then, Apple has also added the option to use the Home bar to swipe back and forth between apps. You might also want to navigate back on a website you found through an app, and be frustrated when you find yourself back on the previous app instead of on the previous page of the website.
