Apple iPhone Se : 4 Security And Privacy Features You Should Know About

As well as packing some pretty impressive features for a mere $399, the new iPhone SE comes with … some powerful security and privacy controls.

Apple

Launching the iPhone SE 2020 during a pandemicit could be seen as genius or insanity. But life must go on, and Apples latest iPhone is certainly something to get excited about if your older smartphone is starting to look a bit shabby.

As well as;packing some pretty impressive features;for a mere $399, the new iPhone SE comes with some powerful security and privacy controls. As hackers ramp up;cyber-attacks during the coronavirus crisis, these features are pretty important.

Here are four of the most important security and privacy features that come with Apples latest low-cost iPhone.;

The iPhone Se 3 Probably Won’t Launch Until Next Year

You’re going to have to be patient if you’re dead set on buying an iPhone SE 3. The third-gen version of the;iPhone SE;likely won’t appear this year at Apple’s event in the fall, but instead the first half of 2022, according to a research note from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. His rumored timeline was later echoed by a;report from DigiTimes;that speculated the new 5G iPhone SE could be on its way in the first half of 2022 with an updated;A14 Bionic chip.;

Does Face Id Work With Masks

Largely no, but its complicated. Face ID is very secure precisely because it relies on far more than a basic snapshot of your face.;

Every time you unlock your iPhone with facial identification, the devices TrueDepth camera casts a three-dimensional mesh of tens of thousands of infrared dots all over your face. It matches what it detects against facial data that was collected when you first enrolled in Face ID.;

Because depth is a critical component of Face ID, the system cant be fooled with a two-dimensional image, unlike rudimentary face-unlock technology on some other devices. By putting on a mask, you eliminate the TrueDepth camera’s ability to measure the contours of your face below your eyes.

And no, you cant simply work around this by enrolling in Face ID while wearing a mask. The system is designed to look for a mouth and chin, and if it cant detect those, or thinks theyve been obstructed, it simply wont bother. Googles facial-recognition technology in the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL works exactly the same way.

Does iPhone 12 series have Fingerprint sensor?

Touch ID is as impressive today on the new iPhone SE as it was when it debuted on the iPhone 5S back in 2013. It’s fast, secure, and as well as quickly unlocking your phone, it lets you quickly pay for goods or services with Apple Pay.

This technology is seven years old, though, and as of the launch of the iPhone SE, precisely one iPhone in the entire range has it. All of the rest of Apple’s current lineup uses Face ID and for the most part, that is better. Much better.

Face ID is more secure, harder to hack, and since the original generation of it in the iPhone X, has become faster than Touch ID. Right now with the coronavirus we are having the issue that faces with a mask can’t reliably be recognized, but in general use, glancing at your iPhone has become much faster than pressing your thumb onto a button and waiting.

Plus, there are people who find that Touch ID is unreliable. That can be because of the cases that their employers require them to use, it can be because your finger is damp or sweaty. Whatever the reason, Touch ID can frustrate people who don’t find any difficulty with Face ID.

So for convenience, speed, and security, Face ID is a strong reason to buy a different iPhone. Your choices are the iPhone XR starting at $599, the iPhone 11 at $699, iPhone 11 Pro at $999, and iPhone 11 Pro Max at $1,099.

Does The iPhone Se 2 Have Face Id

No, the iPhone SE 2 does not have Face ID. Instead, it offers Touch ID, which is integrated into the home button below the screen and works by scanning your fingerprint to unlock the phone.

Touch ID was first introduced along with the iPhone 5S, and then featured on all phones in the series up to the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus; the iPhone X was the first model in the series to ditch it in favour of Face ID. Both identification methods can be used as biometric security to verify payments as well.

Face ID was introduced with the iPhone X and has featured on every new iPhone since then, including the latest iPhone 11 range. This makes the iPhone SE 2 this first new iPhone to lack the feature since 2017.

Its no surprise that the iPhone SE 2 should share its unlock method in common with the now-withdrawn iPhone 8, as both devices have very similar constructions. The main differences are the iPhone SE 2s souped-up internals, including a top-of-the-line A13 Bionic chipset, plus a new camera.

Related: Best mid-range phones

While it may be a little disappointing that you cant unlock the iPhone SE 2 with your face, the phone still offers some strong features for the £419 price. And if youre upgrading from any Apple device before the iPhone X, you wont notice the difference as those phones also lack the Face Unlock option.

The iPhone Se 3 Won’t Get Smaller Or Bigger

In a world of increasingly supersized smartphones, the iPhone SE has claimed bestseller status thanks in part to its diminutive size as well as its powerful combination of prices and features. The first-gen iPhone SE came in a petite 4-inch frame and was lauded by CNET’s Scott Stein for being “amazingly pocket-friendly” among other things. Apple’s second-gen iPhone SE, launched last year, wasn’t quite as small, but made up for it in might. ;

With the upcoming iPhone SE 3, however, it looks like Apple won’t change the size, according to Kuo. Like the 2020 iPhone SE, the next-gen version will have a 4.7-inch screen. Apple may launch a plus-sized iPhone SE along with it, however, for those who want a bigger budget iPhone. More on that later. Remember, the iPhone SE has two main audiences: budget-conscious buyers who aren’t interested in paying $799 for an iPhone 12 and those who prefer compact phones.

    What’s Next For The iPhone Se

    According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, there is no new iPhone SE coming in 2021, with an update instead planned for the first half of 2022. The design and specifications will be similar to the existing iPhone SE, which is a 4.7-inch device modeled after the iPhone 8, but it will include 5G and an upgraded processor, which DigiTimes believes will be the A14 chip first used in the iPhone 12 lineup. Kuo says it will be the most affordable 5G iPhone available.

    Nikkei believes the next-generation iPhone SE will look similar to the current design that’s based on the iPhone 8, but with an upgraded A15 chip, which is expected first in the iPhone 13, along with Qualcomm’s X60 modem for 5G. DigiTimes and Nikkei disagree on the A-series chip that will be in the new device, but either the A14 or the A15 will be an upgrade.

    Kuo in 2029 said there would be an “iPhone SE Plus” with a full-screen design, no Face ID, and a Touch ID fingerprint sensor built into the power button on the side of the device, but his latest device predictions did not include a mention of this device and it may have been tabled.

    Barclays analysts also do not believe that Apple has plans to refresh the iPhone SE in the foreseeable future, and that they have not heard mentions of a larger-screened iPhone SE with a 5.5 or 6.1-inch display.
