Titles that already use existing Game Center invitation APIs don’t need to make any code changes for iOS 10. Messages-based invites are set to automatically replace the old method of inviting friends to play, and anyone can be invited via the Messages app and iCloud.

Those are the basics in terms of what Game Center is designed to do. But when it comes to actually using it, things getawkward. Okay, thats putting it mildly they get really, really frustrating.
The whole point of the Game Center is to facilitate socialization by allowing you to easily share multiplayer and turn-based games with your best friends, or find new friends with common game interests. When we started this article, we figured wed maybe prove that it had some valid reasons for existing, but as far as we can tell, it doesnt.
In fact, Game Center doesnt even work well with most gamesnot really. Wed like to show you how to challenge friends and take turns, or even demonstrate its multiplayer chops but we quickly grew flustered.
We tried three different popular iOS games and, despite, our best efforts, couldnt get any of them to function well with Game Center. We were able to challenge friends, but the process is clumsy and convoluted.
How clumsy and convoluted? In order to challenge a friend, youd think it might be as simple as tapping on Challenges, but no. The challenges screen is for people who challenge you.
So maybe tapping on a friends name in the Friends pane is the ticket? Nope, nothing there either.
And, after we finally sent our friend the challenge, we couldnt get Game Center to register when he actually completed those challenges.

For one, you can no longer see who your friends are, what games they play, or their high scores unless you happen to download a supported game that they also own. More frustratingly, there appears to be no straightforward way and maybe no way at all to add new friends or delete old ones.
As of iOS 10, the only friends management option Game Center users have is the ability to remove all friends at once via the Settings app. As such, if you want to get rid of one person , you now have to delete your entire friends list with no way of recreating it. It’s a terrible ultimatum to place on the end user, and makes for a frustrating gaming experience.
Game Center was never a fantastic social network, and I understand why Apple got rid of the app with iOS 10. It makes much better sense as a system integration, like iCloud itself.
