Why Do You Need To Manage Icloud Storage
Apple has made iCloud storage a seemingly essential element for all its products, from Macs to iPads, iPhones and even Apple TV. There are four principal elements to the service. These include:
- iCloud Backup:;Its used for all the iPad, iPhone and iPod backups youve made without using iTunes.
- iCloud Drive: This is for all your documents and data from third-party apps on Macs and iOS devices that store data in the cloud.
- iCloud Mail:;Naturally, this is storage for all the emails and attachments youve ever received through your iCloud account.
- iCloud Photo Library:;This is storage for all the pictures and videos youve ever taken.
Thats an extensive list of items to squeeze inside Apples ever-so-tiny 5GB free allocation. To get the most out of it, you may want to regularly check how much storage youre already using and take steps to migrate some of those storage tasks to non-Apple products and services.

Is It A Good Time To Buy
No one wants to be “that person” who bought an expensive iPhone right before the new one came out. This is an OK time to buy as all the latest models are available. However, the iPhone 13 is expected to arrive in September, which is mere months away. It might be more prudent to wait.
Rumors suggest Apple will unveil four iPhone models again. The hot new feature? The company’s ProMotion technology from the iPad Pro, which enables a 120-Hz screen refresh rate for smoother touchscreen interactions, for all the phones. Outside of this, expect a smaller notch where the Face ID camera sits, improvements to the cameras, better performance, and a potential return of Touch ID .;
Whether you wait or upgrade now, if you don’t really want to spend the money to get a new iPhone, consider a fresh battery. Ram: Random Access Memory On The iPhone
How much iPhone memory do I need? Your device’s memory is referred to as RAM. RAM is commonly defined as;random access memory or volatile working memory, the space where processing takes place. It is literally a measure of how much “thinking” space;your device has to figure things out, kind of like how many things your brain can be trying to figure out or remember at once;before you need to write some down so you can stop trying to think about them.;
How Much Storage Are You Using
Its easy to figure out how much iCloud storage you are using.
In iOS: Tap the top section in Settings. Then tap iCloud. You should see a chart detailing how you are using iCloud storage. Email And Text Messages
The iPhone also features an email program that supports HTML email, which enables the user to embed photos in an email message. PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint attachments to mail messages can be viewed on the phone.Yahoo! offers a free push-email service for the iPhone. IMAP and POP3 mail standards are also supported, including Microsoft Exchange and Kerio Connect.
In the first versions of the iPhone firmware, this was accomplished by opening up IMAP on the Exchange server. Apple has also licensed Microsoft ActiveSync and supports the platform with the release of iPhone 2.0 firmware. The iPhone will sync email account settings over from Apple’s own Mail application, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Entourage, or it can be manually configured on the device itself. The email program can access almost any IMAP or POP3 account.
Text messages are presented chronologically in a mailbox format similar to Mail, which places all text from recipients together with replies. Text messages are displayed in speech bubbles under each recipient’s name. The iPhone has built-in support for email message forwarding, drafts, and direct internal camera-to-email picture sending. Support for multi-recipient SMS was added in the 1.1.3 software update. Support for MMS was added in the 3.0 update, but not for the original first generation iPhone and not in the U.S. until September 25, 2009.
Legal Battles Over Brand Name
In Mexico, the trademark iFone was registered in 2003 by a communications systems and services company, iFone. Apple tried to gain control over its brand name, but a Mexican court denied the request. The case began in 2009, when the Mexican firm sued Apple. The Supreme Court of Mexico upheld that iFone is the rightful owner and held that Apple iPhone is a trademark violation.
In the Philippines, Solid Group launched the MyPhone brand in 2007. Stylized as “my|phone”, Solid Broadband filed a trademark application of that brand. Apple later filed a trademark case at the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines against Solid Broadband’s MyPhone for “confusingly similar” to the iPhone and that it may likely “deceive” or “cause confusion” among consumers. Apple lost the trademark battle to Solid Group in a 2015 decision made by IPO director Nathaniel Arevalo, who also reportedly said that it was unlikely that consumers would be confused between the “iPhone” and the “MyPhone”. “This is a case of a giant trying to claim more territory than what it is entitled to, to the great prejudice of a local ‘Pinoy Phone’ merchant who has managed to obtain a significant foothold in the mobile phone market through the marketing and sale of innovative products under a very distinctive trademark”, Arevalo later added.

Managing Your Icloud Storage
One important thing to keep in mind as you think about iCloud storage is that in most cases its not intended to be used as a substitute for your local storage on your iPhone or iPad. You can use iCloud Drive to save your data manually, but iCloud is mostly designed to synchronize and backup your information automatically.
For example, if youre receiving the message that your iPhone is almost full, buying more iCloud storage doesnt solve that problem by itself. This is because iCloud Backup mirrors what you have stored on your device locally. If youd like help managing your storage, read more here.
Well cover few different places to look to free up your iCloud storage, but outside of these if the majority is taken up by your device backups youll need to reduce the amount of content stored on your iPhone or iPad itself.
Once youre on the;Manage Storage section like the image above on the left start by taking a look at the various;BACKUPS. In my example there are two copies of my wifes backup, tap on any of them to get more details.
Youll notice that the;Last Backup date is 11/11/16, which isnt current, so Im all set to delete that one in particular and free up some iCloud storage. Go through and delete any old or unnecessary backups.

‘this iPhone Cannot Be Backed Up Because There Is Not Enough Icloud Storage’
If that iCloud backup worked just fine, then great, you’re done. But I realize a lot of people won’t be able to back up to iCloud without a little work. You might see this message on your iOS device, “This iPhone cannot be backed up because there is not enough iCloud storage available.”
Look at the message below the Back Up Now button.
Every iCloud account gets 5GB for free. But most people have more than 5GB of data on their phone — or they have more than one iOS device that needs backing up. Hence, 5GB isn’t enough space. And maybe one day Apple will change its free tier to give us more data and make backing up easier for everyone. But until then, we need to do some calculations to optimize our iCloud accounts.
