How To Connect Airpods To Apple Tv
No matter how fancy your home theater setup may be, one day you’ll probably find yourself in need of an audio experience that’s a little bit more… intimate. Maybe you need to catch up on a few episodes of your favorite show or smash out some YouTube yoga without disturbing the other people you live with; maybe the people you live with are disturbing you, and you just want to watch your stories without having to blast it over the sound of violin practice or hammering on the other side of the wall.
If you have an Apple TV and a pair of AirPods, you’re in luck: they’re no exception to Apple’s philosophy of seamless cross-device connection, and it’s super easy to pair your AirPods to an Apple TV for private listening.
And if your AirPods are of the Pro persuasion , you’ll also benefit from not only their active noise cancelling, but also from Apple’s immersive Spatial Audio feature when you’re watching movies and TV not just when you’re listening to music.
One handy thing to know is that if your Apple TV is associated with the same Apple ID as your AirPods, they should connect automatically. But in case that’s not happening for you, or if the Apple TV in your setup is linked to someone else’s account, here’s how to pair your AirPods with your Apple TV.
Connecting The Airpods For The First Time
The easiest and the best way to connect your AirPods for the first time is on an iPhone. If your iPhone is fully updated, follow the instructions:
For people who dont own an iPhone, arent registered on iCloud, or use Android devices, here are the connection instructions:
Your AirPods should automatically connect whenever theyre near an iOS device you previously paired them with. Also, keep in mind that the AirPods need to be registered to the same Apple ID as the other Apple device.
However, this feature is not available with computers, phones, and tablets of other brands. Maybe Apple allows this in one of the future updates. Perhaps the 3rd-gen AirPods will have this ability.
Clean Your Airpods And Charging Case
If dirt, dust, or other debris gets into your AirPods or Charging Case, it can affect their functionality and cause hardware problems. For example, if there is debris in your Charging Case, your AirPods may not charge properly.

How To Fix Auto
One of the cooler features of the AirPods and AirPods Pro is that when you remove one of the earbuds whatever youre listening to automatically pauses. It accomplishes this via small proximity sensors built into the earbuds. Sometimes it doesnt work perfectly, and it doesnt work with Android or PC.
If you are using iOS and still cant get this feature to work, then there are two possible solutions. The first is to make sure that you have the feature enabled in the first place and the second is to clean your AirPods to make sure the proximity sensor isnt covered in earwax. To make sure that the feature is turned on:
If it is turned on and you still cant get it to work, make sure there is nothing blocking the proximity sensor from getting an accurate reading. We have an entire article detailing how to clean the AirPods or AirPods Pro to get rid of debris and gunk that might be blocking the sensor. We suggest doing so fairly often not only for functionality but also for hygienic purposes.

What To Do When You Can’t Connect Airpods
If for some reason your AirPods don’t connect, there’s no reason to worry. There are a few steps you can take to fix this problem:
Dfu Restore Your iPhone
A DFU restore has the potential to fix software problems by completely erasing the code which may be causing your problem. The code is rewritten as if your iPhone is brand new, so the software problem may get solved.
Think of it like a house that has cracks in the foundation. Rather than try and fix the cracks, we are building an entirely new foundation.
If you can, back up your iPhone before completing a DFU restore. Any time you do a restore, it erases everything from your iPhone. However, after the restore is completed, you restore all your backed up data back onto your iPhone.

What If Your Left Airpod Is Not Working
If your AirPods appears to be connected but you still cant get audio to come out of it, then the issue might be with your source device. Regardless of the operating system youre using, try disconnecting your AirPods and then reconnecting them. Put them back in the case for at least 15 seconds while you turn off Bluetooth on your source device and turn on Airplane mode. If it still isnt working try restarting your phone .
If none of this works, then it is possible to force audio to your AirPods if youre on an iOS device by swiping down to access the Control Center and clicking on the icon of the upper right corner of the audio media box. From here you should be able to choose your AirPods as the desired output for your audio. If none of this works then performing a factory reset on the AirPods is the best way forward.
Use The Toothfairy App On Mac
Typically, connecting your AirPods to iPhone or iPad automatically is a swift process. Its the Mac thats the odd one out. If youre not using macOS Big Sur, AirPods wont connect to your Mac without you needing to open the Bluetooth menu and clicking the Connect button.

And even if you connect to them from the Bluetooth menu, it takes a couple of clicks and then a couple of seconds of wait time. What if you could remove all this friction and make it a one-click process? This is where the ToothFairy app comes in.
ToothFairy is a Bluetooth device management tool for your Macs menu bar and costs $4.99. Its worth it just for its one-click integration for AirPods and AirPods Pro.
Once you install the app, youll see a new icon in your menu bar. Right-click it, and choose the Preferences option. Here, select your AirPods and then choose an icon.
Now, youll always see the icon for your AirPods in the menu bar. If the icon is filled in, it means that the AirPods are connected.
And if its not filled in, and you have your AirPods in your ears, simply clicking the button will instantly connect your AirPods to the Mac. From the apps preferences, you can also create a global shortcut to connect to a specific pair of AirPods.
