Dont Put Your iPhone 6s In Rice

One of the go to options to save a water damaged iPhone is to put it in rice, but thats not really going to help you much. There are better options out there that will save your iPhone. One of the biggest things to remember is not to charge the iPhone or turn it on for at least 24 hours.

The video above explains why rice isnt the right solution for iPhone 6s water damage. It also walks though what a repair shop like iOutlet will do to fix iPhone water damage if you bring it in. iOutlet recommends seeking help as soon as possible.

Skip rice and go for silica gel or open air to dry your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6s out.

If you want to put your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6s in something to remove the moisture you should try silica gel or one of the special packs that companies sell to absorb water from your iPhone.

You can find Silica gel packets around your house or even at a local shoe or department store. If you cant find those, look for an object like Kensington EVAP which is available for as little as $8.

Some hardware stores sell a product called DampRid, which you can put in a sealed bag with your iPhone for 24 hours to suck the moisture out of it.

There are a lot of options to use to dry your water damaged iPhone 6 or iPhone 6s, but you dont want to get it too hot. Apple warns not to exceed 113 degrees Fahrenheit. That means you shouldnt leave it in a car in the sun, put it in an oven or use a blow dryer on hot.

Mpow Floating Waterproof Case

Waterproof cases affect usability and responsiveness because of their thickness and built-in screen protectors. Youll also find that the cases with the best waterproofing usually sacrifice the phones feel and responsiveness. If you dont want to lose a lot of effective usage by keeping your phone in a waterproof case all of the time, you can use a pouch and only put your phone in it when you need occasional waterproofing. The Vansky TPU pouch also offers another advantage: it will work with almost any smartphone. You wont have to give up responsiveness, and this case even floats. It has clear windows on either side, a secure locking mechanism up top, and an adjustable strap. The IPX8 rating means that it wont provide any drop protection, but it will keep your iPhone dry up to 100 feet .

Water Damage Isnt Covered By Warranty

iPhone 6s Plus & iPhone 6 Plus Case Slim Waterproof Shockproof Screen ...

Despite the IP67 and IP68 ratings, your iPhone warranty doesnt cover water damage. That means if your iPhone develops a fault as a result of liquid damage, Apple wont honor their limited one-year warranty.

If you have an AppleCare+ policy with accidental damage coverage, you should be able to pay a fixed fee to have your device replaced regardless of what caused the damage.

The presence of liquid contact indicators will reveal whether or not your iPhone has come into contact with potentially device-damaging liquid. You can see these indicators inside the SIM tray of any iPhone 5 or later, and in the headphone and charging ports of earlier iPhone and iPod models.

As a result of this, Apple recommends you avoid the following activities:

  • Swimming, bathing, or using your iPhone in a sauna or steam room
  • Exposing the device to pressurized or high-velocity water
  • Cleaning the device with pressurized air
  • Intentionally submerging the device for any reason
  • Damaging or disassembling the device
  • Using the iPhone outside of the suggested temperature or humidity ranges

In other words, Apple explicitly recommends against dunking your iPhone underwater. iPhone water resistance seems to be a last line of defense. While the iPhone has been tested to withstand an IP67 or IP68 water rating, its not worth intentionally getting your iPhone wet. Other factors can also affect the water-resistance.

Is My iPhone Still Water Resistant After Repairs

Apple-approved service shouldnt affect your iPhones water resistance, but third-party repairs could result in your iPhone not being waterproof afterward. On the iFixit forum, Experimacs Justin Berman notes that the water-resistant rating is tied closely to the presence of adhesive strips located on the display assembly.

When the device is opened up, the water-resistant seal is broken, and the strips will need to be replaced to maintain water resistance. If you have your battery or display replaced by Apple, you should be fine. Repairs are always more expensive when undertaken by Apple, but you generally get what you pay for in the form of first-party replacement parts and qualified technicians.

Where things get tricky is when you take your device to a third-party technician without an Apple accreditation. These businesses are in shopping malls and on main streets all over the world, and they generally offer competitive prices for common smartphone casualties, like broken screens and failing batteries.

If you do decide to take your iPhone to one of these retailers, be sure to ask whether the adhesive strips on the display assembly were properly replaced. Youre going to have to take the technician at their word. The only way to find out for sure is to risk your phone becoming water-damaged. Wherever possible, take it to an Apple Store or Apple-approved technician.

Is There Any iPhone That Is Waterproof

No iPhone is entirely waterproof, but many models after iPhone 7 come with water resistance. Several of the newer iPhone generations share or come close to iPhone 13s water protection.

Models with the same IP68 resistance to splashing, dust, and immersion in up to 6 meters of water for a maximum of 30 minutes include:

  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max

If your iPhone is exposed to or dunked in water, Apple recommends drying the device by gently tapping it against your hand with the lightning connector facing downward. Youll also want to avoid charging or using the Lightning port on your iPhone until its dry.

Some iPhones also hold the IP68 rating but cant be immersed as deeply in water. These models come with IP68 protection in up to 4-meter depths for 30 minutes:

  • iPhone 11 Pro

Other iPhones can withstand only 2-meter depths for 30 minutes maximum. This list includes:

  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max

Several older iPhones cut back the water resistance further with an IP67 rating. This rating offers dust protection and tolerance to submersion in 1-meter depths for 30 minutes.

  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 7 Plus

The above iPhones can also withstand everyday spills from beverages such as coffee, tea, and juice. If you need to clean your phone, Apple recommends avoiding soaps or detergents.

Is The iPhone 6s Waterproof

The new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus can continue working after being submerged in water for more than an hour, testing has shown

It’s one of the most common ways to render your phone absolutely useless, and an issue which earns smartphone repair businesses thousands of pounds a year.

But water damage may not be such an issue for owners of the new iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, after YouTuber Zach Straley submerged the models in water for over an hour, only for them to work perfectly afterwards.

Both handsets were placed in bowls of water with timers running to keep tabs on how long they’d been underwater. One hour later, Straley tested 3D Touch and the camera functionality on each phone, which worked without any obvious problems.

Apple made no mention of any new waterproofing features during its keynote presentation earlier this month, which also saw the unveiling of the iPad Pro, iPad mini 4, new Apple TV and revamped Apple Watches created in collaboration with luxury fashion house Hermès.

Whilst the handsets appeared to be fine, it’s probably best to avoid dunking your new iPhone to be on the safe side.

In recent years, rivals Samsung and Sony have made significant advances in making their phones fully waterproof, including the Sony Xperia Z5 and the Samsung Galaxy S5. The newer Galaxy S6, however, is not waterproof.

A spoof advert suggesting that iPhones upgraded to iOS 7 would magically become waterproof allegedly tricked users into submerging their iPhones back in 2013.

One of the best new features of Apples brand new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus is the water-resistance. Apple says the phones can easily withstand a spill, a splash or even a quick dunk, and weve seen them take some underwater photos as well and emerge unscathed. Theyre still just water-resistant, however, which is a far cry from being waterproof.

There have been numerous claims made that the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are waterproof and that Apple has kept this feature a secret. There’s a good reason why Apple doesn’t publicized this.

There have been numerous claims made that the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are waterproof and that Apple has kept this feature a secret. There’s a good reason why Apple doesn’t publicized this.

When I heard about this I was skeptical. After all, Apple is not the sort of company to keep new features a secret, especially if the features give the new iPhone an edge over the competition. However, an examination by teardown specialists at iFixit revealed a new gasket around the frame and silicone seals around the connectors .

However, major water ingress points such as the speaker, headphone jack, and SIM card tray don’t seem to have any waterproofing. There’s also no waterproof coating on the actual circuit board.
