Whats The Difference Between The iPhone 13 And 13 Pro

iPhone 13 Pro: Battery

iPhone 13 vs 13 Pro: Real-World Differences after 1 Week

A big strength of the iPhone 13 Pro is the battery. It is a bit of an improvement over its predecessor since it’s 3095mAh, slightly bigger than the 2815mAh of the iPhone 12 Pro. Apple claims that the iPhone 13 Pro battery life should last about 22 hours , which should be enough to get you through an entire day before you need to reach for a charger.

The iPhone 13 Pro has a 3095mAh battery that should last up to 22 hours on average.

One of the problems that I encountered with my iPhone 12 Pro was that the battery health had degraded to less than 90% around the 6-month mark. I believe that the culprit was either iOS 14.5 or iOS 14.6, which caused excessive battery drain for many people, including myself. Thankfully, even after six months with the iPhone 13 Pro, my battery health is still sitting at a cool 100% maximum capacity.

On average, my iPhone 13 Pro battery can easily last through an entire day, and only maybe I need to grab a Lightning cable in the late evening. I also have set up an automation in Shortcuts app to enable Low Power Mode when the battery dips below 30%, which helps. If I plan a full day at Disneyland, which happens pretty often, I stretch the battery out as much as possible by keeping Low Power Mode on pretty much all day. However, even if I’m there for a few hours with heavy use of the cameras and Disneyland app, the battery can get me through without breaking a sweat.

The iPhone 13 Pro can power through a full day at Disneyland.

You Want A Larger Battery

Both the iPhone 14 Pro has larger batteries. That’s a fact. The iPhone 14 Pro is rated for up to 23 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 13 Pro only has 22 hours of video playback. While that’s only one hour less, that hour could make all the difference.

The new A16 Bionic Chip also remains to be tested but we expect better efficiency and performance on the iPhone 14 Pro.

iPhone 14 Pro Vs iPhone 13 Pro Outlook

The update from iPhone 13 Pro to iPhone 14 Pro is actually pretty dramatic. In previous years, we’ve seen incremental changes.

With the iPhone 14 Pro, however, Apple have been generous with the upgrades. The new Dynamic Island, 48MP camera, improved chipset and always-on display certainly set the iPhone 14 Pro apart from its predecessor, and aside from a price increase in some regions, there doesn’t look to be any drawbacks versus the outgoing models.

In the current economy, though, a price hike really won’t be appealing to many people, especially given the already high pricing of the iPhone 13 Pro models. Whether or not the features will justify this hike to most buyers remains to be seen.

For now, make sure you keep up to date with our iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro hubs for the latest info, and re-read our iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max reviews to get an idea of those models’ strengths and weaknesses.

The iPhone 13 does have satellite link capabilities. With its Low Earth orbit satellite connectivity, the 13 can call and text without a cellular signal. However, satellite link capabilities are limited to certain markets and situations. If you want to call and text anywhere around the world sans mobile internet coverage, youre out of luck.

iPhone 14 Pro Vs iPhone 13 Pro Cameras

The iPhone 13 Pro used 12MP sensors for all four of its cameras. But the iPhone 14 Pro comes with a 48MP sensor on the main camera, for higher resolution images.

The iPhone 13 Pro models feature a wider maximum aperture of f/1.5 on the main camera versus f/1.78 on the iPhone 14 Pro, meaning the older models are theoretically capable of producing brighter images. However, with a much larger sensor, upgraded image stabilization and Apple’s new Photonic Engine image processor, the iPhone 14 Pro should produce cleaner, more detailed images in low light.

The new quad pixel sensor also allows a 2x telephoto zoom mode, meaning you’ll have more flexibility with your zooming and framing.

While ProRAW photos were available to iPhone 13 Pro users, thanks to its huge sensor, the iPhone 14 Pro offers ProRAW files in uncompressed 48-megapixels, which means they’ll be huge and absolutely packed full of image data to manipulate. If you’re a fan of having ultimate control over your images in post-production, then the iPhone 14 Pro has the camera for you.

In terms of video, there’s no 8K as rumored, but the iPhone 14 Pro can shoot 4K at 24 fps, 25 fps, 30 fps and 60 fps, just as you’d find on the iPhone 13 Pro. The difference between the two is that 4K/24 fps is now available in Cinematic mode on the iPhone 14 Pro.

iPhone 13 Price Drops

If you want to spend a bit less and aren’t entranced by the dynamics of notches turned islands, the iPhone 13s aren’t too far behind the 14 line spec-wise.

Like we mentioned, they use the same A15 Bionic chip, look pretty dang similar, and their MSRPs have dropped. Here’s how they stand following the iPhone 14 release:

  • iPhone 13 – starting at $699, instead of its former $799

The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, however, are not experiencing an Apple-mandated price drop, as they’ve been removed from its website. Carriers like Verizon and AT& T still have the Pro and Pro Max available at their original prices.

  • iPhone 13 Pro – starting at $999

  • iPhone 13 Pro Max – starting at $1,099

iPhone 14 Vs iPhone 1: Design

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 have very similar designs, with a few exceptions. Thanks to the changes to the rear cameras, the cameras protrude slightly further on the back of the iPhone 14, which means that if you lay the iPhones on the table the iPhone 14 will be slightly less flat than the iPhone 13. Also the buttons have been shifted slightly, so a case for an iPhone 13 will probably not be suitable for an iPhone 14.

iPhone 14: 5.78 inches x 2.82 inches x 0.31 inch x 6.07 ounces

iPhone 13: 5.78 inches x 2.82 inches x 0.30 inch x 6.10 ounces

Another difference between the two phones is the color finishes you can choose from. The iPhone 13 colors tend to be darker than those of the iPhone 13. For example the iPhone 14 has a pale blue option compared to the deep blue of the iPhone 13, and even the Product Red finish for 2022 looks brighter than usual. Plus pink has been switched for purple.

Apple

iPhone 14 Prices Screen Sizes

iPhone 13 Pro VS iPhone 12 Pro! EVERY Difference Compared!

We saw the second generation of the iPhone SE get a price bump in the spring, but Apple didn’t follow suit with the iPhone 14. Instead, the base iPhone 14 model starts at $799, which is the same price the iPhone 13 started at last fall. That, of course, means that the iPhone 13 prices have fallen.

The design of the iPhone 13 and 14 is pretty much the same, with the major difference being the bigger sizes, with the Plus clocking in at 6.7-inches. They’re still running on last years A15 Bionic chip, but do have some camera upgrades in the Photonic Engine feature.

All the iPhone 14s also have satellite connectivity, meaning you can contact emergency services without any cellular or internet connection.

The more premium iPhone 14 Pro options lose the classic notch we know and hate, and come instead with the Dynamic Island and an A16 Bionic chip. If you want to trade up from the iPhone 13, the 14 Pro and Pro Max models, though pricey, definitely seem to offer more substantial spec upgrades.

As a final note, Apple has scrapped physical SIM trays in the iPhone 14 line and switched to eSIMs, meaning world travelers might find this upgrade to be a bit more costly than sticking with the iPhone 13.

Price: iPhone 13 Line Matches Its Predecessor’s Cost

The iPhone 13 lineup mostly mimics the pricing for the iPhone 12. Although Apple has done away with the 64GB storage option for its standard and Mini options, the pricing of the iPhone 13 have stayed the same. The iPhone 13 Mini starts at $699 for 128GB of storage. The standard iPhone 13 starts at $799, the Pro starts at $999 and Pro Max at $1,099.

The prices for the Pro versions are similar to other high-end smartphone models like the Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra, which cost $1,000 and $1,200, respectively.

iPhone 13 Pro: Competition

The biggest competition for the iPhone 13 Pro right now is the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus and Google Pixel 6 Pro.

Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Plus is the latest from Samsung, which just launched in February 2022. With the S22+, you’ll have a slightly bigger display with brighter, even more advanced cameras, reverse charging capabilities, and up to 30x space zoom, which is double that of the iPhone 13 Pro’s 15x digital zoom. You’ll also have Android 12, which one-ups iOS in terms of things like customization. The price of these two devices is pretty similar, so it just comes down to a matter of preference of OS, as well as camera capabilities. Check our iPhone 13 Pro versus Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus buyer’s guide for a closer look at how these two flagships stack up.

The other competition I mentioned is the , which is the favorite premium Android phone of our sister site, Android Central. While the hardware design is a little polarizing, the Pixel 6 Pro has a stunning OLED display, exceptional haptics, and some of the best cameras with 50MP. Plus, you get the Magic Eraser feature, which I would like Apple to have someday in iOS 16 or later. And what’s surprising is the fact that the Pixel 6 Pro starts off a little cheaper than the iPhone 13 Pro at just $899. So if you want a smartphone with beastly cameras and editing software, you definitely want to check out the Google Pixel 6 Pro.

iPhone 12 Pro Vs iPhone 13 Pro: Video

iPhone 12 Pro video sample

iPhone 13 Pro video sample

Video functionality is broadly similar across both devices: both have the ability to record 4K at up to 60fps, and both have Dolby Vision HDR. However, there is one key difference seen in the addition of Cinematic Mode. You can use this to create shallow depth of field effects for moving subjects, something which was previously only available for stills shooting with the iPhone 12 Pro.

It works pretty well for the iPhone 13 Pro, particularly if the subject such as a person or a pet has a reasonably well-defined outline. That said, you cant record this in 4K, so its perhaps more something you might consider a fun effect rather than anything more seriously. It also seems reasonably likely that this could come to the iPhone 12 Pro via a firmware upgrade at some point.

The iPhone 13 Pro also offers ProRes 4K recording, as long as your device has at least 256GB of storage. That makes sense, because ProRes video will take up a lot of space on your phone. So if youre seriously into your vlogging, make sure you plump for a higher capacity device. ProRes at 1080p, meanwhile, is available for 128GB models.

While the iPhone 12 Pro marked somewhat of a design departure from its predecessor, the iPhone 13 Pro is almost identical to its forebear. Both the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro have 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR screens, with both offering HDR displays at the same resolution.

Does The iPhone 13 Have A Headphone Jack

Super

The iPhone 13 lacks a headphone jack. Beginning with the iPhone 7, Apple nixed the physical 3.5mm jack in favor of a mostly portless design. Therefore, youll need to rely on Bluetooth wireless connectivity or a Lightning adapter for interfacing with wired audio components like speakers or headphones. Depending on your speakers/headphones, youll need a Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack or a Lightning to USB-C adapter.

On paper, the OLED displays found across the iPhone 13 line-up are basically identical to their iPhone 12 equivalents. That means a 5.4in panel for the iPhone 13 Mini and a 6.1in screen for both the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro . The iPhone 13 Pro Max again goes biggest at 6.7in, with an unchanged 2778×1284 resolution.

There are some display differences across the line-up, though. For the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini, Apple has boosted brightness. Its supposedly 28% brighter outside . Apple also claims that peak brightness for HDR content is higher, which should enhance contrast.

But its the Pro variants that now deliver a true treat for your peepers. Both ship with ProMotion support, which outside of the Apple universe translates to adaptive refresh rates. This means the updated displays can intelligently drop down to a super-efficient 10Hz for maximum battery saving, or bump frame rates all the way up to a silky smooth 120Hz when you need ideal for fluid in-game visuals.

Those Pro panels are also the brightest ever fitted to any iPhone. At 1000 nits, brightness is up to 25% higher outdoors.

The prices for the iPhone 13 increase as you increase the amount of storage, especially since the iPhone features a 1TB storage option for the first time. The extra storage is only available on the Pro models and ups the price of an iPhone 13 Pro Max to $1,599.

iPhone 14 Vs iPhone 13 Pro: Which One Should You Buy

Well, we can say that the decision to choose one out of them is difficult. While the iPhone 14 is available at a lesser price point with decent performance and high-quality camera specifications. On the other hand, the iPhone 13 Pro is available at a high price, but it offers a better camera setup along with a premium feel. So if you want a premium design and triple camera, then you can go for iPhone 13 Pro, and if the budget is a concern for you, then you can go for the iPhone 14 base variant.

What Upgrades Does iPhone 13 Have

iPhone 13 vs iPhone 13 Pro – Which Should You Choose?

The iPhone 13 features upgrades in nearly every area when compared with the iPhone 12. It features a faster processor than the iPhone 12 series, a better camera, and improved 5G. The 13 Pro versions provide a bevy of benefits such as a fast adaptive refresh rate screen and outstanding photo/video capabilities. Progressive upgrades are collectively substantial enough to make you want to and use the money to purchase the 13.

iPhone 14 Vs iPhone 13 Pro: Battery

The iPhone 14 is powered by a 3279mAh battery along with MagSafe fast wireless charging support of 15W. As claimed by Apple, the device can get up to 50% charged in a matter of 30 minutes. The battery drainage can be a major issue when the smartphone is being used extensively. On the other hand, the iPhone 14 packs a 3095mAh battery along with 23W fast charging support. The device also gets charged up to 50% in 30 minutes, and it also supports 15W MagSafe fast wireless charging.

iPhone 13 Vs iPhone 13 Pro: Battery

All four iPhone 13 handsets have been given a battery boost, though Apple never reveals the actual capacity of its phones battery packs.

And in our testing, which involves continuous web surfing over 5G with the display set at 150 nits of screen brightness, that has borne fruit. The iPhone 13 mini lasted 8 hours and 41 minutes, the iPhone 13 managed 10 hours and 33 minutes, the iPhone 13 Pro reached 11 hours and 42 minutes, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max topped the charts with a battery life of 12 hours and 16 minutes.

So if you want the best battery life, then the iPhone 13 Pro models are the phones to go for, but the iPhone 13 still beats the iPhone 12 for electrical endurance.

iPhone 14 Pros Dynamic Island

Weve been talking about it all through this article, so what is Dynamic Island after all? Well, thanks to the new pill + hole cut out in the iPhone 14 Pros display, Apple has come up with a whole new set of UI elements and user interactions that make the iPhone appear a lot more intuitive, user-friendly, and in my opinion, makes the pill not only acceptable, but downright desirable.

Basically, the iPhone 14 Pro use the area around the pill shaped cutout for things like displaying certain notifications, popping up information that would otherwise take an additional screen, and more. In the examples shown off by Apple, we can see AirDrop notifications coming up in the Dynamic Island, Face ID animations, now playing music, timers, and more.

Whats more, the Dynamic Island will allow users to tap and hold to access a quick widget of sorts to control the app thats running in the island. This means you can easily control things like music, podcasts, timers, etc., without having to leave the app youre working in. The Dynamic Island takes different shapes depending on the information being displayed in it.

It also appears to replace pop-downs such as the ones that come when you move the alert slider, connect AirPods, etc. These prompts will now show up in the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro, which should make them feel less intrusive than they are right now.
