Last year was a bit of an odd one for Apple, which has released not three, not even four, but five new smartphones. In early 2020 we got the new iPhone SE , and in October, Apple rolled out four new next-gen devices: The iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Mini, the iPhone 12 Pro, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. It goes without saying that if youre in the market for a new Apple handset, 2020 has given you more options to choose from than any year before.
Having many choices can be a good thing, but it can also induce decision paralysis if you dont already have a reasonably specific idea of what you want. To make things simpler, you can break down the four models into two categories: The iPhone 12 and 12 Mini are the standard flagships, while the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max are the premium models. With its 5.4-inch display, the Mini is the obvious choice for those who like smaller phones but who want something with more modern styling than the iPhone SE. Its worth noting that the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 Mini has similar overall dimensions as the 4.7-inch iPhone SE given the 12 Minis much slimmer bezels.

In an interesting twist, each year, J.D. Power ranks shopping experiences among both major carriers and smaller, prepaid wireless carriers. And each year, at least some of those carriers, like Boost Mobile, Cricket Wireless, and others, outrank their larger counterparts.
Considering that, going to a prepaid wireless carrier to buy a new phone might be the way to go.
Prepaid carriers generally offer solid prices on their plans and offer far more flexibility in how you want to structure your deals than major carriers. And although prepaid carriers generally have a larger stock of cheap smartphones, if you want a new iPhone or top-notch Android device, you can go to a prepaid carrier and get what you want.
Be aware, however, that prepaid carriers rely on major carrier networks to deliver their service. So be sure to check which major carriers prepaid companies are relying on to see if you have good coverage in your area.

iPhone 13 13 Mini 13 Pro 13 Pro Max
Apple announced their iPhone 13 lineup at the California Streaming event on September 14, but we all knew it was coming. The 13 will have a full suite of phones, including the standard, a Mini with similar specs, a beefed up Pro and a super beef Pro Max. They are available for pre-order starting September 17.
All of the phones have a Super Retina XD display, with the standard model and the Pro measuring 6.1 inches, the same size as the iPhone 12. The Mini clocks in at 5.4 inches and the Max at 6.7. Apple really hyped up the new camera in the iPhone 13. It will have improved light sensitivity for better low-light photos and videos. The Pro and Pro Max will have Ultra Wide, Wide, and Telephoto cameras. The photo apps themselves get improvements with the upgrade to iOS 15, including a new Cinematic Mode.
The iPhone 13 Mini is the cheapest of the bunch, launching at $699. The standard iPhone 13 is $799 iPhone 13 Pro is $999 iPhone 13 Pro Max is $1,099. There are no deals yet for unlocked phones, since its barely launched, but some carriers, such as T-Mobile and AT& T, have sign-on deals tied to the new phone. What If I Want To Buy An Older iPhone
Just want an iPhone and arent too bothered about it being the latest model? So why not buy now?
As we said above, Apple has just cut the prices of various older iPhone models. You can now get the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 12 and 12 mini for less than you could previously. You can buy these iPhones direct from Apple, but the best deals to be had usually arent from Apple though: we round up the best iPhone deals here.
Because Apple tends to cut prices of older iPhone models when it introduces a new generation we would suggest that you dont buy an older handset just before the new ones are expected. If you make your purchase in August you will likely be kicking yourself after the price drops a month later.
On the other hand, there is a risk in waiting. If you had wanted to buy an iPhone 12 Pro from Apple and thought youd wait until after the iPhone 13 launch to take advantage of the lower price you would have been disappointed Apple has discontinued the Pro and Pro Max models.
If thats you then fear not: it is likely you will still be able to buy that handset from a third party reseller, it just might not see as big a price drop as it would have.

Does Apple Have Any Trade
If you already have an iPhone you can save on the new iPhone 13 with Apples trade-in offers. You can save anywhere from £35/US$110 to £610/$790, and turn in models as old as the iPhone 6s in the UK.
Apple UK only accepts iPhone models, but US shoppers can trade in a greater variety of devices, including the:

We know based on past experience that Apple is very unlikely to drop the price in the first year of sales.
However, Apple does tend to reduce the price of the previous years iPhone when it introduces the new model. Hence Apple reduced the price of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini when the iPhone 13 was introduced, so if you are really after a bargain it might be wise to choose the older iPhone.
- The iPhone 12 was from £799/$829, but it is now £679/$699 , £729/$749 or £829/$849
- The iPhone 12 mini was from £699/$729, but it is now £579/$599 , £629/$649 or £729/$749

The iPhone 13 hit stores last Friday, Sept. 24. You can buy the phone at your nearest Walmart, Target or other retailers to avoid shipping delays — depending on your store’s availability. Since the phone is popular, be prepared for long wait times at your local carrier. If you ordered the phone in the preorder window, the first batch of purchases should have arrived on Friday.

The iPhone 11 range might not be the latest generation of flagships from Apple, but they’re still worthy of consideration – especially if you spot an iPhone deal to your liking.

Another way to save money is to purchase an older model. The iPhone 12 Pro Max, for example, will run you $1,596 brand new the iPhone 11 costs $875. Thatâs a significant cost savings of $721.
Finally, you can sell off your old device to help you fund your new phone purchase. Again, websites like Kijiji are a great place to do that so is Facebook Marketplace.
While youâll never recoup the full cost of your phone when selling it, a couple of hundred bucks will definitely help soften the blow of purchasing your next device. Youâll make more selling your phone independently, but you have to deal with the buyers too. Thatâs why the third-party sites we mentioned earlier may be a good fit for you.

Should I Get An iPhone 12 Or An iPhone 13
This one’s a toughie. Both essentially feature the same design and 5G capability, which makes them both a great pick for pairing up with a speedy data plan from Verizon or AT& T.
Price-wise, the iPhone 12 now retails at $699 – an absolute bargain and a whole $100 cheaper than the new iPhone 13.
