With iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, Apple is adding a bunch of new features centered on notifications and alerts. For example, a new Focus mode replaces Do Not Disturb, making it possible to automate exactly when and which apps will make your phone buzz. There are also new options to mute an apps’ alerts for an hour or the rest of the day, and a new Notification Summary.

After a few minutes of initial setup, Notification Summary will start displaying alerts in one, compact notification card at a predetermined time — instead of all at once. You can choose which app notifications you want to bundle together.

I pressed the home button on my iPhone 6. I noticed that there was a notification on the lock screen – something about iCloud. Before I could read more than a few words, Touch ID helpfully kicked in and unlocked the phone, taking me to my home screen.

I wanted to finish reading it, so I pulled down the notification center from the top and didn’t see the message on Today or Notifications. Is there any way to get such notifications back, or should I develop muscle memory of clicking the home button and quickly removing my thumb from the button to avoid losing these forever?

Apple messed up, in my opinion, by taking away the “missed” tab on the notification pull down in iOS 8.

The only thing I’ve found that helps is to navigate to settings > notifications and set “sort by time”. After that you can pull down the notification center, and the notifications will still be grouped by app, but at least they are sorted so the most recent group is on top, then you can scroll down reading the top notifications out of each group until you get “caught up”

Personally I used that “missed” tab more than almost another screen on the phone, I can’t believe they eliminated it.

Do Not Disturb mode combined with Silent mode is indeed blissful, but can sometimes be quite lethal. Right now, Apple doesnt offer granular controls for Do Not Disturb mode. Its not possible to say that if you get notifications from a particular app, always make a sound.

But there is an exception and that is for phone calls and messages. You can use the Emergency Bypass feature. Once enabled for a contact, your iPhone will ring and vibrate, no matter if your iPhone is in Do Not Disturb or Silent mode.

You should enable Emergency Bypass for your family members, significant other, or your closest friends. To do this, open the Contacts app or the Phone app and navigate to a contact.

Here, tap on the Edit button and select the Ringtone option. From the top of the menu, tap on the toggle next to Emergency Bypass to turn on the feature.
